[BIBLIOTECA “ X ” 2030] Site: Songdo, Korea Design Date: 2021 Working Type: Competition Responsible Part: Revit Models and Drawings,Concept design

Reflec ng Songdo’s unique urban planning, which allows for unconven onally high tech driven infrastructure and vast green spaces, the building design of the library emphasizes an interac ve, accessible, and open atmosphere. Characteris cally shaped consonants and vowels from the Korean language ( ㄹ , ㅅ , ㄱ , ㅏ , etc.) are embedded into the structural volume to create wide, open spaces throughout the library. Korean le ers were used to achieve this as a meaningful gesture towards the language, which serves as a founda on for the informa on and knowledge encompassed by the libraries. Located in an interna onal city, this library will be at the forefront of represen ng Korea to the world. Hence, embedding Korean le ers into the building form itself is an expressive opportunity to promote Korea’s culture and society.

As guardians of informa on, libraries have always existed beyond the realms of space and me, connec ng thoughts and experiences of the past with the present. Libraries are eternal hallmarks of civiliza on, and will con nue to be. However, in an era of technological advancement and rapid dematerializa on, libraries are no longer just quiet temples for the preserva on of collecve memory. Libraries too must evolve. Hence, the Library of Songdo Interna onal City will not only be an acknowledgement of the past, but also an intellectual and cultural symbol of the present and an omen for the future. Encompassing the past, present, and the future, this library design is inspired by “Feel the Rhythm of Korea,” a globally viral promo onal video released by the Korean Tourism Organiza on. The video features rapid-fire excursions to various a rac ons in South Korea with the help of dancers in ageless clothing, an ambiguous choreography, and funky Korean pansori music. A fusion of the modern and tradi onal can result in a meless design.

THE DESIGN OF SATELLITE CAMPUS FOR THE USC MARSHALL SCHOOL OF BUSINESS This program is a part of the USC marshall school of business. For design this part, I'm thinking of using the element "lines". Lines could seem as the basic graphic, and the different thickness of lines could be use as different function. I want to use lines to create impressive entrance and rooftop, to see what could happened when "lines" meet "geometric".
