A drug abuse legislation introduced by the city, will not only lower the population of the local detention and rehab centers, but will also save the city budget rom having to spend on housing inmates and accumulate on the long term to provide capital that could be used to better the city’s underdeveloped transit infrastructure or further its investments in the recreation sector providing more jobs and economic development to the city. Or that spending cut could be rerouted towards some of the bigger environmental and social issues in the city.
