Local Students Attend International Photographic Convention Big opportunities ahead for the School of Journalism and Communication at Southern Adventist University COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. February 5, 2015—Students of the School of Journalism and Communication at Southern Adventist University (SAU) expanded their skills by attending Imaging USA, the longest running professional photographic convention and expo in the United States. Professor Stephen Ruf and three students joined thousands of industry professionals attending this event February 1-3 in Nashville, Tenn. “I learned a lot about new camera technology, and got to see a lot of cool new products. There are many photographers that inspired me to try new ideas for my photography,” Jeremy Permaul, a senior student at SAU, said. The main Imaging Expo held by Canon introduced hundreds of new products to guests. Classes featuring guest speakers from professional photographers around the country taught listeners how to shoot in limited lighting, what techniques to use for sports photography, and many other topics. Each class allowed interactive learning and special discounts for products. “After going to the Adobe session, I met with the speaker Jared Platt. He gave me his new Lightroom Presets Collection 70 percent off, which I’m downloading for our students in the Photojournalism class,” Ruf said.
