Zhuoran Chen, 20 , is a communication major student at Temple University. She started a small business in April -- made Chinese desserts and food, and sold them to students. She earned more than 1,000 dollars in only one month, and she spent most of them on travelling around China this summer.

The first reason she came up with the idea to sell her own made food, was because there are too many delicious Chinese desserts. However, most of them cannot be bought in Philadelphia, and some of them are just not good enough. The second reason was that she was planning for her summer trip for a long time, but she did not want her parents to fund her. And the last reason was that she loves cooking.
She started to learn to cook really early. When she was a little girl, she would watch her mom or her Nanny cook. She already could make some simple dishes when she was in primary school. And soon enough, she found out that she really enjoyed cooking.
She actually had thought about being a cook before, but at last she did not choose that for a couple of reasons. However, she is still thinking about going to a cooking school one day, to improve her cooking skills.
When she was doing her business last semester, she would ask around what foods or desserts they were interested in buying, then she would come up with a menu, which was different every week, and probably different every day. The most popular dish from her was the Twice Cooked Pork. But she liked the dessert orders more, because desserts were much more fun to make.

Her prices were slightly higher than other Chinese restaurants, because she thought the materials she used were better than other places. Also, she thought the taste of her food was better than the food from other Chinese restaurants.
Her business is currently paused, because she takes more classes this semester, so she has more homework to do. Also, she no longer lives around Campus, so it is hard for her to continue to bring that amount of food to campus. However, she hopes she can restart it again, not only for the money, but also for all the fun.
