TYPEFACE The typeface I have used was Calibri, a sans serif humanist font that offers high readability. The type needed to be clean, clear and simple to fit in with the theme of the rest of the booklet.

Cover

As this is only a short handbook to give minimal and basic information the size of it only needed to be small and so an A5 format was worked to, this is big enough to present the information clearly and in a way that is spread out.

The cover of this booklet is a handmade paper, within the handmade paper there are flecks of colour such as turquoise, this creates a link between the outer and the inner characteristics of the booklet but the texture of the cover contrasts the smooth inside stock creating again another strong figure and ground principle, clearly defining the foreground. The booklet is a small and compact design, the colours are bold and stand out from one another with a working grid clearly playing a part of the structure in the background of each page. The grid is faint enough not to cause distraction but prominent in terms of showing the job in

which it is doing. The information is reliable and consistent, it works in chronological order so that it is as clear to the audience as possible. The message communicated was informative and instructional so as to allow the audience to understand and be able to apply the principles.

Grid

Considering the most appropriate grid for a booklet, the one chosen was a modular grid. This keeps it structured but not too complex, it allows for flexibility and movement when presenting the information, following in with the theme of simplicity.

1. Principle Overview A short summary of each of the seven key principles that have been included within my research and in my practical 2. Logo Examples An example is given in this section of each of the principles being used in logo designs. 3. Gestalt in Grids The use of grids is really important when it comes to how we visually perceive a design or page, it can heavily influence the way in which we say and the direction in which we see it. 4. Gestalt in Typography Gestalt can be apparent in letterforms due to the nature and style in which each letterform is produced.

Logos

The logos chosen were selected on how obvious the principle was, as this is an explanation guide it needed to clearly show each principle and so bold, well known logos were chosen with one dominant principle within each of them.

5. Gestalt in New Media This is a short section that explains how Gestalt has proved useful in the age of new technology and the introduction of digital design.

Contents

The contents of the book needed to be precise and to the point. Unnecessary information would make the booklet seem uninteresting and the reader should remained engaged. The sections are split into categories which the findings of the dissertation.
