SCHEMATIC MASTER PLAN

Rock embankment create the boundary between wetland, waterfeature and grassland. According to water seepage, rock embankment will protect grassland soil from crushing down.Rock will also slow the water flow.

Larger rock piece on water feature allow people to stand and lay above to enjoy the dense natural wildlife experience.

Curved timber bench around the natural pond for visitor to sit and rest. Timber material will provide more natural feeling. Timber bench will sit on sand bed. Also existed trees and yellow box canopy may provide shade for bench area.

Design Intent

According to the main flora and fauna that have been researched, the main colour that formed in this wild life park is green and yellow. The design allows for connected ecosystem, Whole site may split into three parts, the north-most is the static state of experiencing waterfeature , the middle part is the dense wild life ecosystem, and the south-most part is the dynamic state of experiencing wild life feature. Designed elements allows visitor to feel the natural element up close but not allowed to interference the their life.

Topping path around the wild life park leading visitor walk around the site and experience different ecosystem. Plants aside the path provide view. According to main focused flora and fauna, the main colour throughout the site except from green, is yellow, from goldenrod beetles and hard head daisy.

Circular timber deck surround to allow visitor experience the grassland scene. On the left hand is the waterfeature and on the right hand is the grassland.

Stone island allow people to active above and experience the natural feature, but no BBQ in the site to avoid damaging the environment.

Timber deck allows people to walk around and feel the natural element of grassland and water pond. The rounded timber deck also lead people to the side of the wetland, so that people may step onto the stone island and dense experience the natual pond and wetland.

Living Habitat

Hard-head daisy is a plant that generally can be found in a variety of habitat including subsaline edges of salt flats. They are labeled as ‘medium herb’ in plain grassy woodland, and they cover about 30% of this bioregion.

Growing Overview

9-

12

Hard-head daisy will grow annually up to 15 cm. Leaves 1-8mm long. Mostly basal and divided into 3-9 lobes. They have varied colours, but most commonly having white petals and yellow spitil. This yellow colour is the favorite of Goldenrod Soldier beetles.

Western dusky-winged oak aphid is a common insect that appear in park, grassland and garden. They are heavily attracted by bur oak. It is a harmful insect that will damaging plants by sucking sap from leaves and stem. Oak aphid’s egg will typically laid around buds and stem on bur oak.

Predator-to-Prey relationship

Goldenrod soldier beetles are feed for soft-bodied insects such as aphid. They will hunt adult aphid and find their egg and larvae to eat as well. Due to the harmful action from aphid, Goldenrod soldier beetles considered as beneficial insect for plants and even human.

Chauliognathus pensylcanicus

Golden soldier beetles will help Hard-head daisies to pollinate, correspondingly the golden-yellow colour of Hard-head daisies will attract Golden soldier beetles and provide a cover colour for them while prey.

Oak: Oak aphid always climb on my leaves and stems, they hurt me badly. But Goldenrod beetles could prey them, so I should grow stronger and provide shade for Goldenrod beetles so that they will keep active and contribute to every plant.

Goldenrod soldier beetles can be found on melliferous flowers in open fields, grasslands, prairies and corn fields. As their name described, they are heavily attracted by goldenrod. They also have a deep affection on golden-yellow daisies. They likely to active from may to october. Their active will benefit the plants by softening the soil while searching for eggs and larvae underground.

Western dusky-winged oak aphid: I am a really harmful insect for plant, especially oak! I will chew their stems and leaves, and I will produce sticky honeydew that will attract other insects to injur the plant.

Sticky Honeydew will produced on plants by oak aphid. The sticky honeydew that produced on plant will not only affect the appearance of pant but also attract other insects such as ants, wasps and flies. The absence and increase number of these species will again injuried the plant.

Goldenrod soldier beetle: I love yellow flower! I will stay on these yellow daisies, helping them to pollinate and waiting for predation. I will climb unground as well to find eggs and larvae for feed.

Hard-head daisy: I can be planted here! Plains grassy woodland is very suitable for me to live. And Goldenrod beetles could stay upon my body and help me pollinate so I can spread wider!

Aphid rely on its host plant oak and gum tree, they bite the stem and leaf of the tree
