Founded in 1942, Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas is a Catholic, private, independent, all-boys high school. Following the 500 year-old Jesuit tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Jesuit Dallas strives to form young men into leaders who are open to growth, intellectually competent, committed to working for justice, religious, loving, and physically fit. Currently, Jesuit enrolls over 1,100 boys from 170 different middle schools. Jesuit Dallas Athletics has claimed 129 team state championships dating back to 1954. Most of the titles were won as members of the Texas Christian Interscholastic League (TCIL), a precursor to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) of which Jesuit was a member until 2000. In 2003, Jesuit Dallas, along with Strake Jesuit (Houston), became the first private schools to be admitted to the University Interscholastic League (UIL), which serves as the athletic governing body for public and charter schools in Texas. Since joining the league in 2003, Jesuit has captured 73 UIL district championships.
In 2010, the Jesuit Dallas soccer team became the first private school team in the history of the UIL to capture a state championship. The Ranger baseball team captured its first UIL state title in 2016 and soccer added a second UIL crown in 2017. Jesuit rugby won Texas Rugby Union championships in 2001 and 2010, while the lacrosse program has captured four Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) titles (2016, 2017, 2021, 2022). Jesuit hockey will begin the 2024-25 season as the six-time reigning Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) Division I Pure State Champions, while the crew program routinely ranks as one of the strongest in the country.

Coach DeLong is the seventh-winningest active head coach in the nation and the second-winningest coach in the history of Texas boys’ high school soccer. DeLong has won 87 percent of the games he has coached and is a 17-time state champion at Jesuit.
On Feb. 4, 2020, DeLong won his 600th career game with a 1-0 decision against Plano H.S. With the victory, DeLong became the 19th soccer coach in high school history and the third high school coach in Texas to reach the 600-win plateau. In 2021, DeLong was inducted into the Jesuit Dallas Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2022, DeLong was named to the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches and Officials (TASCO) Hall of Honor.
DeLong has earned two consensus Texas Coach of the Year honors (2010, 2017) since Jesuit Dallas joined the University Interscholastic League (UIL) in 2004 and is a four-time Dallas Metroplex Coach of the Year (1988, 2006, 2010, 2017). In addition to earning the 1991 Region III High School Coach of the Year honor, DeLong helped the Rangers capture 15 Texas Christian Interscholastic League (TCIL) state titles and a pair of UIL titles in 2010 and 2017.
The first of Jesuit’s two UIL state titles came when the Rangers bested Strake Jesuit in penalty kicks to capture the UIL 5A championship in 2010. With the victory, the Rangers became the first private school to ever claim a UIL state championship title in any sport. Jesuit ended the season as the top-ranked team in the nation according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) after finishing the 2009 season ranked eighth in the nation. The Rangers repeated the feat in 2017, defeating Texas top-ranked Arlington Sam Houston, 2-1, in overtime of the championship game to become the School’s first athletic program with multiple UIL state championships. Jesuit closed the season ranked third in the nation according to USA Today.
Throughout his time at the helm of the Ranger soccer program, DeLong has mentored several professional athletes and Jesuit Dallas Hall of Fame inductees. DeLong coached Puerto Rico national team member Scott Jones ’02, who was drafted in the second round of the 2007 Major League Soccer (MLS) Superdraft, U.S. National Team member and nine-year MLS veteran Kenny Cooper ’03, 2012 MLS draftee Ian Kalis ’08 and Kingsley Bryce ’11, who was selected with the 28th pick of the 2015 MLS draft by the Chicago Fire. Entering the 2024 season, DeLong has coached 13 Jesuit Dallas Hall of Fame inductees.
In addition to his coaching duties, DeLong has served as the head cross country coach and has been a varsity football assistant since 1987. He also serves as the chairman of the Jesuit Dallas physical education department. Licensed to coach by the USSF in 1971, DeLong has also coached a number of top club teams including seven North Texas State Club champions, five Region III club champions and two runner-up teams in the National Club championship. Prior to his career in coaching, DeLong played professionally on the reserve squad for the Dallas Tornado in the North American Soccer League (NASL) for six seasons in the 1970s, and the Houston Summit of the Major Indoor Soccer League, reaching the MISL title game in 1980.
A native of Carroll, Iowa, DeLong played soccer collegiately at San Diego State University and earned a bachelor’s degree from UTDallas. He and his wife Diana reside in Dallas.
