Thank you all for helping make this production a reality!
When I was hired as Director of the Philelectic Society, my first task was to select two productions for the year. The choice for Spring was obvious: Newsies. But the Fall? That was a different story. Traditionally, we stage a straight play in the Fall, so I read script after script, searching for the perfect fit. But nothing truly resonated. I had a few options, but none that sparked the excitement I was looking for. Then something unexpected happened: I had a dream.
In this dream, Principal Reuther wrote two things on a sheet of loose-leaf paper and handed it to me:
1. Sometimes...
2. Newsies
Well, there was my Spring show, Newsies—but what was “Sometimes”? My mind immediately jumped to the Kander and Ebb song “Sometimes a Day Goes By,” a piece I had performed in a college assignment. It’s from Woman of the Year, a relatively obscure musical. Producing an unfamiliar show didn’t feel quite right, but then I wondered: Is there a Kander and Ebb revue that includes this song?
That’s when I discovered The World Goes ‘Round. It was the perfect choice. It aligned with everything I hoped to accomplish: teaching the art of singing, dancing, and acting while creating this production together as a cast and crew. Even more meaningful, the show’s theme resonates beautifully with Principal Reuther’s vision for the year, rooted in Jeremiah 1:7:
“But the Lord answered me, ‘Do not say, “I am too young.” To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak.’”
It’s a powerful reminder that no matter our age or stage in life, we can say “yes” to the opportunities before us and answer the call to step into something greater.
The song “Yes” has become a guiding anthem throughout this season of change: “Life keeps happening every day, say yes.” In many ways, this production reflects the courage it takes to embrace change, meet challenges with joy, and trust the journey. I am profoundly grateful to the students, parents, and supporters of the Philelectic Society for embracing me with open arms and saying “yes” at every turn.
This cast and crew have poured their hearts into this process, showing patience, creativity, and grace. I feel incredibly blessed to have your support and know this moment will remain one of the most meaningful experiences of my career.
Thank you to everyone who made this production possible. Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy The World Goes ‘Round.
