PROJECT 1

Identity Subcategory: Culture Name: Micro culture Country: Montenegro

Phase 1

Typographical solutions: The inital 1st phase of the project heavily relied on typograhical research.

Typographical research would also heavily question the use of the cyrillic alphabet. As literature is written in both the native cyrillic and native latin alphabet in Montenegro. Inital illustrations were based of famous quotes and historical figure present in literature.

Phase 2:

Landscape Landscape After the decision to look into literature, I have decided to tackle famed historical tales, most of which were based deep into the Dinaric Alps. Set on rugged peaks, not far off the Adriatic coastline, these stories focused on humilty and bravery of this very miniature nation.

Phase 3:

Typographical soluton based on Gastronomy of the Montenegrin most famous delicacy: Njegusi proscuitto. Locally made at 1200 meters above sea level in Njegusi village.

The colours were based of the initial research of modernist painters based in that area. Essentially, I was just trying out different solutions at the beginning.

Phase 4: Seaside History

Phase 4: Seaside Digital Tales Collages

One of six diffrent stories I have tried to create via digital collages, tell the stories of 3 island on the coast of Montenegro.

One of them is a safe harbour for seamen and mariners, one of them is a protective fortress and one them is a a prison.

I have tried to base all the stories on true historical marks both present and visible today, just as the islands are very famous tourism outings.

Illustration based on the geopotilics and common architecuture seen in bigger cities in Montenegro. Stacks of letters resembled the geometeric blocks of communists building, a very dominant factor of urban life.

live forever.

Phase 5:

The use of acetate print and the use of colour overlapping gives digital collages a watered down look, where each overlapping laying belongs to a different story, or tale.

analogue collage Mixing different images and collages creates an interesting factor to imagery, where creating new tones of colours has a meaning. The use of such vibrant colours goes to back to inital research I have done on Montenegrin modernist painters.

Also, the vibrancy speaks to children, as they are the target audience of my project.

Tales of the mountains and the sea

Each image equires a moody illustrated representation after the overlapping of colours.

With real life images disected and places among illustrations such as the mountains.

K Phase 6:

I have decided to focus on typography a lot more in this phase, or more precisely the cyrillic. I have started with hand drawn blocky typography familiar to children, and a hand-drawn approach.

Typography with felt tips definately reached a revel of infantileness and inspired me to create my next phase, based of grids and blocks of typography, accesable and understandable

Phase 7: My finale phases revolved around illstrations based on cultural motifs, seen through my project, as well as historical sites and the cyrillic alphabet soaked with abriptive, bold colours, built as a collage/illustration.

Phase 8: Finally, at the end of the project, with all the elements I have created, I have starting building a grid-like illustration. Since my project is aimed at children learning the cyrillic alphabet, at my last phase I have tested and highlighted different features of each letter.
