Lubavitch Hebrew Academy Students Excel In Farher

Pushing-the-educationalenvelope to bring out the best in our students is what we do at Lubavitch Hebrew Academy. With that in mind, we arranged an end-of-year Farher with Rabbi Leibel Schapiro, Marah D’asrah of Chabad of Florida, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah of Miami, and Rav of Bais Menachem Miami Beach.

This time-honored tradition of regional Rabbis testing local Yeshiva students forges a link between one generation of Jewish learning and the next and practically underscores the value we place on student

growth and achievement.

Our select group of 6th graders were examined on Masechta Baba Kama, Perek Hameiniach, while our 7th & 8th graders had to answer questions on the entire Masechta Makkos. Both of these are serious milestones at these young ages.

Not only was the experience itself an inspiration and a z’chus, so too was the lead-up to the event. To quote just three of the students:

“[Knowing that there was an upcoming Farher] encouraged me to finish the Masechta and

learn it really well…”

“The nachas it brought my parents and teachers made the months of preparation well worth it.”

“It was really helpful…for Mesivta and the rest of my life.”

Suffice it to say, Rabbi Schapiro had tremendous nachas as well and was more than pleasantly surprised at the level of our students’ learning.

Huge kudos go out to Rabbi Yaakov Sheinberger, dean of Judaic Studies, who taught and encouraged the students!

Ivy League Students Call YU Home

Safely securing a world-class education with values that align with Jewish ideals

At 18, Ellie Nathan had her future mapped out: accepted early decision to Barnard College, she was set to pursue her pre-med dreams at an Ivy League school.

Then came Oct. 7, and college campuses across the country erupted in antiIsrael protests; protests that were particularly virulent at Barnard, and its acrossthe-street affiliate, Columbia University.

Nathan’s commitment began to waver; speaking with Jewish students on campus, she was appalled. “They told me, ‘People scream at you every time you walk across campus, but it’s not that bad, you get used to it. You just can’t take it too seriously,’ Nathan said. “Being verbally abused was part of their everyday routine. I couldn’t imagine living like that.”

Learning about Yeshiva University’s extended transfer deadline, she seized the opportunity, and in fall 2024, the Long Island resident will start Stern College for Women as a pre-med Honors student,

joining many high school friends.

“Switching to YU feels right on so many levels,” Nathan said. “The Honors program is amazing, Stern’s 95% track record for getting girls accepted into medical school is unheard of, and I love that learning Torah is ingrained into the everyday schedule. That combined with the supportive environment of shared values made the decision so clear, and has given me a sense of clarity and peace I haven’t felt in a long time.”

Nathan and many others from Ivy League universities like Cornell, Penn, and Columbia, as well as from other universities like BU, NYU and Michigan are making the move thanks in part to YU’s new Blue Square Scholars program, created with a $1 million grant from Robert Kraft to help the University take in transferring students who are switching to YU for its quality education and nurturing campus atmosphere. The program furthers the university’s efforts to support Jewish college students throughout the country, providing the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the best and the brightest who are drawn to the university’s values of Jewish idealism and taking a strong stand for Israel.

“YU is a safe and welcoming home from the antisemitism many students on today’s campuses are facing,” said Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, President of Yeshiva University. “No Jewish

student should have to face the threats and intimidation that has sadly been taking place. While we extend our hand to be of any assistance in supporting efforts by universities to protect their students, we proudly stand with all Jewish students by offering them a valuesbased, world-class education in a safe and supportive environment.”

After Oct. 7, Eliana Samuels — accepted early decision to Columbia — also began to doubt her choice.

“The idea of being on a campus where I have to avoid certain people and places, where I’m afraid of getting hate crimed, and where I can’t tell anyone that I’m a Zionist or Jewish because of what they might do to do me, was genuinely terrifying,” said Samuels, 19.

It wasn’t long before she and her parents decided Stern was a much better option; she’ll begin Stern College for Women as a premed Honors student in fall 2024. “I’m looking forward to being in a place where I can be myself and get a great education,” Samuels said. She’s particularly excited about the guidance Stern provides on her path to

medical school, including class selection, research opportunities, and med school applications. “I thought I would have to fend for myself, but at Stern, there’s so much personal attention and support, especially for premed students.”

Zachary Magerman, who just completed his sophomore year at the University of Pennsylvania, was already considering a move to Yeshiva University before Oct. 7. For him, the subsequent antiIsrael protests at Penn and the administration's lack of support highlighted a deeper issue: his values didn't align

with those of the university and its students. In fall 2024, Magerman, a psychology and cognitive science major, will join YU as a junior.

Although active in Penn’s Jewish community, Magerman — who spent two years in yeshiva in Israel before beginning college — craved a stronger connection to Judaism and the values it represents. YU, he felt was the perfect fit. “At YU, people care about making a difference, they’re focused on self-growth, and they strive for communal success and idealism through Torah life,” he said. “They share my own priorities.”

While Magerman is considering semicha or a master’s degree in psychology at YU, right now he is particularly excited by the unique opportunity to learn from Torah giants like Rabbi Hershel Schachter and Rabbi Itamar Rosensweig.

“Coming to Yeshiva University is a testament to my own growth,” he said. “I’m ready to prioritize what really matters to me: making the world a better place, and fighting for and living the Torah’s timeless values in an institution that stands up for these ideals.”

Zachary Magerman transferred to YU from University of Pennsylvania

Nova Law School Campus

Purchased by The Jewish Academy

The former Nova Southeastern Law School Campus has been sold to the Jewish Academy. This transaction marks the first time in Florida’s history that a Jewish school has purchased a former college campus, aligning perfectly with the Jewish Academy’s unique college prep vision.

The new educational campus, spanning 63,746 square feet, includes a five-story educational building and a two-story auditorium and cocurriculum building. Plans for the campus are groundbreaking, featuring a professional basketball court, student recreation center, soccer field, STEM Lab, Beis Medrish, Music Studio, Art Studio, Podcast Room, Yoga Lounge, and modern classrooms.

The co-curricular building will be the center of a student life ecosystem that includes athletics, clubs, and student trips. A unique blend of academic electives will be facilitated in the co-curricular building. Courses that will be offered include Art Studio Design and Robotics.

This state-of-the-art campus will be located within ten minutes of the heart of the Jewish community in Hollywood, Florida. Sharing a property line with Snyder Park, the campus will also offer shared access to additional park amenities including a basketball court, bike trail, butterfly garden, disc golf course, dog park, fishing, nature trails, pavilions/picnic tables, a playground, and a volleyball court.

Jewish Academy Head of Schools, Rabbi Chaim Albert, says “The New Campus will be the pride of the South Florida community.” Plans for the Campus include providing a year round after-school community center for Jewish students. “This will be a

home for our community, a place for students to meaningfully connect to Judaism, Israel, and our Torah values.”

The Jewish Academy has a unique demographic of students. 95% of the Jewish Academy’s students are former public school students. Jewish Academy Chief Academic Officer and former Harvard Alumni, Moshe Hecht, says “Families attend the Jewish Academy because of the academic advantage. 100% of General Studies teachers are certified, with a Masters degree, college classes in 8th grade, a culture of College Prep, inspiring electives, and extracurricular activities. It is a clear difference for our families.”

The difference is in fact clear. Using the same State standards to test its students, The Jewish Academy outperformed “A” Charter and Public Schools on the 2023-2024 End of Year State exams. Additionally, in March of this year, The Jewish Academy became the only school in Florida, public or private, to have 100% of its 8th Grade Honors students pass the PERT college entrance exam and take college classes for college credit. This achievement culminated in a starstudded celebration in April at the G7 Rooftop Restaurant overlooking the

Hard Rock Hotel. Among the guests in attendance were Israeli musician Gad Elbaz, Real Estate Moguls Sharon & Miriam Sharaby, and the Mayor of Dania Beach.

The Jewish Academy’s vision for Jewish Studies runs counter to the mainstream. “It is forbidden to teach Judaism as a subject” says Rabbi Albert. “Some students love Math class and other students hate Math class. It is not an option to hate Judaism.” Rather, the outlook of the Jewish Academy is simpleteach inspiring Torah that builds love and emunah within each student. Through learning Torah and Jewish Experiences, The Jewish Academy believes our students will become proud Jews with a passionate and meaningful relationship to Hashem, Judaism, and Israel.

The Jewish Academy provides public school families an offer they can’t refuse- superior academics and experiences that connect students to Judaism and Israel. The new campus will initially serve the Jewish Academy’s Middle and High School students, with potential to accommodate over 1,000 students. Naming opportunities are available for the new campus and buildings.

INTERVIEW

Q&A WITH JEWISH CANDIDATE FOR CONGRESS (FL-25)

The South Florida Community Voice’s Publisher Rabbi Segal recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Bryan Leib, a Jewish Republican Congressional Candidate for Florida’s 25th Congressional District. His primary election day is August 20th and his district represents areas such as Hollywood, Hallandale Beach, Weston, Davie, Cooper City and Dania Beach. We conducted the interview at Café Noir in Hollywood, FL.

We sat down with Bryan for this interview because of the large number of Jewish voters located in his district to give you, our community, a firsthand look into who Bryan is and where he stands on issues that are important to us.

Q: BRYAN, THANKS FOR JOINING US FOR THIS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ONE OF FLORIDA'S LEADING JEWISH MAGAZINES IN FLORIDA.

A: Thank you for having me, Rabbi. Thank G-d for this opportunity to sit down with you and I wish your paper continued success.

Q: THANK YOU, BRYAN. LET'S JUMP RIGHT IN. WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR CONGRESS?

A: To put it simply, I am running for Congress because

I am deeply troubled at the direction our country is moving towards under President Biden's leadership. Biological men competing in women’s sports, a wide-open southern border that is allowing terrorists to flow into our country, and a national debt that we will never be able to pay down. Up is down, down is up –and I am not going to sit on the sidelines any longer and watch the country we love destroyed by radical left-wing policies. We need new blood, new ideas, and change agents serving in Congress - not career politicians. I don't ever want to be a career politician. I will fight every single day for the future of America and South Florida's Jewish community.

Q: IT'S NOT OFTEN YOU HEAR CANDIDATES FOR OFFICE SAY THEY DON'T WANT TO BE CAREER POLITICIANS.

A: I mean it. I don’t want to spend my entire career as a politician. Our country is being destroyed by career politicians who are totally out of touch with the people they are tasked with serving. We need to create a system via passing congressional term limits that constantly brings new blood into Washington D.C. because having the same people at the same table, year after year, decade after decade, is not what Democracy is and certainly not what our founding fathers envisioned!

Q: OKAY, MOVING ON. YOU TALKED ABOUT SUPPORTING THE JEWISH COMMUNITY. YOU’RE A VERY PROUD JEW – I SEE YOUR MAGEN DAVID AROUND YOUR NECK. CAN YOU EXPAND ON THIS?

A: Yes, of course. First let me say, I am a proud Jewish American and proud to be the first grandson of a Holocaust survivor. My promise to the Jewish community in South Florida is that I will be the loudest voice in Congress standing up for our people, our community, our values and the State of Israel. I have routinely used my platform to speak out against Antisemitism and Anti-Zionism and I have continued to do so serving on the Heritage Foundations' National Task-Force to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism. Let me be clear - we should deport all pro-Hamas protestors on our college campuses and streets of America immediately and in Congress, I will use the power of the purse to freeze federal grants to Columbia University and other liberal universities.

Q: THANK YOU FOR THAT ANSWER. SO LET'S TALK ABOUT ISRAEL AND YOUR STANCE ON SUPPORTING ISRAEL.

A: I'm a Jew first, an American second and a Republican thirdly. As a Jew, I understand the solemn duty that we all have to do whatever is needed to support the people and land of Israel no matter the costs.

INTERVIEW

When I visited Kfar Aza and the site of the Nova Music Festival in January earlier this year, I promised every Israeli that I saw that we will never stop fighting for them in America and that we are all brothers and sisters. As a Member of Congress, I will vote to expand funding for Iron Dome and joint R&D projects. I will stand up to the Islamic Republic of Iran alongside President Trump in doing whatever we can to put maximum pressure on the Mullahs of Tehran.

Q: BRYAN, WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON SCHOOL CHOICE?

A: Every parent in South Florida and America should be able to send their children to the very best schools possible. I support expanding the amount of vouchers and I will work to revise our federal tax code to allow families to claim bigger tax credits for education costs.

Q: DO YOU SUPPORT PRESIDENT TRUMP?

A: Yes, I have always supported our great President.

There has been no greater friend and ally to our people here in America and in Eretz Israel than President Donald J. Trump. I am behind him all the way.

Q: THANK YOU FOR SITTING DOWN WITH US. DO YOU HAVE ANY CLOSING REMARKS TO SHARE?

A: Thank you, Rabbi Segal. This has been an honor and my pleasure. I am grateful to have earned the endorsements of State Rep. Randy Fine, National Jewish Leader Dov Hikind and Congressman Byron Donalds, Congressman Cory Mills, Congressman Pat Fallon and Congresswoman Mary Miller.

I want the Jewish community in South Florida to know that they can count on me to stand with Israel, stand with our Jewish students on college campuses, and to be a strong supporter of expanding school choice and supporting religious freedom. I wish you and your families continued blessings. Toda raba for this opportunity.

Operation Inspiration: The Long and Short of It

There’s an old expression: “Mind the pennies, and the dollars will watch themselves.” What it means is that if you are careful with the small things, then the big things will already be taken care of because you’ve nipped them in the bud when they were small.

Practically speaking, if you are careful in spending your money when it comes to smaller expenditures, you won’t come to waste large amounts of money. By taking care of those pennies, they will grow into dollars on their own, as the Gemara in Bava Basra tells us.

If you are careful not to say unkind things to people, you will have less issues of speaking Lashon Hara, because you’ve already made the effort to consider what you say and how you say it. By ensuring the small things are taken care of, you protect yourself from the real whammies. At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work. However, this scenario doesn’t work in all cases.

Consider this: Chazal tell us there is such a thing as derech arucha shehee ketzara, a long route which is short, and derech

ketzara shehee arucha, a short route which is long. If you try to take a shortcut, but the way is full of stones, hills, and obstacles, you’d be better off taking a more circuitous route which had a smooth walkway. You might take more steps, but put in less effort and time to get where you want to go.

Sometimes, though, you don’t realize what you’re up against. I had an epiphany on this recently, when I took a rideshare car (such as Uber, Lyft, or Javer) for a ride home from an airport. The way these programs work, for those who may not be familiar, is that you use an application on a phone to summon a car service. You input your location and your destination, and it tells you

how much it will cost to get you where you want to go.

Well, I did that, and the app told me my driver would be there shortly. When my phone buzzed to alert me he was there, I looked in vain for his car. I tried to call him but it told me I could only text him as this driver was hearing impaired. After a few moments of messaging back and forth, I walked about fifty feet to where he was waiting for me.

As we began to drive, I noticed that the way was unfamiliar. I thought that the driver must have made a wrong turn, and his GPS directed him a different way. However, then I found we were driving a direction I’d never gone before. I was somewhat familiar with the area, but had never taken this way from the airport to my home.

We took a number of city streets before eventually reaching a highway we could have gotten on much earlier. Then it hit me. I bet he had set his GPS to avoid tolls on roads as much as possible. That would make sense as the city streets we took didn’t have tolls, though they had plenty

of traffic and red lights along the way.

Our trip took about 15% longer than it usually would, but I could do nothing about it. If you recall, he was hearing impaired, and even if he wasn’t, my Chinese is limited to a few of my favorite foods, which may or may not actually be Chinese words.

I realized that he had tried to “watch the pennies” by avoiding toll roads, but he actually ended up spending more time and money between the extra mileage and the stop-and-go nature of our trip. I wouldn’t be surprised if the toll roads would have

saved him money. Many people go through life not wanting to exert themselves. They want to take the easy way out; to avoid anything taxing or difficult. What they might not realize, though, is that sometimes the challenging way gets you much further than the easy way, and you are far ahead when you put in the extra effort.

It works that way in our relationships, and in our Avodas Hashem. The problem is that people don’t want to hear it. They are sure they know the best way to handle things and because they refuse to listen, no one else can help

set them straight.

The long and the short of it is that we can’t be closedminded and assume we know best. In fact, we ought to consider various options and outcomes and actually plan our routes with the ups and downs accounted for. If we open our ears and welcome suggestions, we’ll get where we want and beyond. If we don’t, we may think we’re riding high, but in truth, we’re just plodding along the long way ‘round

Sales, the Best Stepping Stone

When selling, you’re not that far off from starting your own. Sales folks are hired for one of two reasons. Either, ownership is too busy or ownership doesn’t want to sell.

In sales, you’re in the drivers seat although it might not feel like it. When I started off in sales, I personally felt lost and frustrated. My confidence I had on day one was gone on day three. Walking around business districts trying to sell my product was confusing. I didn’t even know what I was selling until a few months in. I thought I did. Even then, it was a learning curve. When I finally got in front of a decision maker and would strike up a conversation, the questions were on a higher level than I knew how to answer.

Yet, it’s this under confident salesman who if given the right chance, will be the future of the very organization he signed up to sell for. Though, he or she must be nurtured and valued. The secret that an organization doesn’t want their sales folks to know is that if they themselves are so excited about this product or idea, then they aren’t to far away from starting their own company and marketing this

product or service for their own growth.

So, I put this to test. Something recently got me excited. An entire new product than what I regularly sell. There was only one issue, there was no comapny offering this product. I was left with one option, start a company of my own and market this product. Starting a company meant I would have to sell, or hire someone to sell. But the best one to market this unique product I believed was me. And because I’ve now been selling for years, I had no problem with taking on this new CEO role that mainly included sales.

In the last six weeks, I’ve brought 5 new clients into this

company I started. If I hadn’t gotten my start in sales, this opportunity would have walked right by me. I actually wouldn’t have even noticed it. The fear of rejection would have been too strong for me to be in touch with the opportunity right in front of me.

Although I’ll eventually hire someone to sell for me, I really don’t want to. My busy schedule will give me no other choice. My new salesman will be working for a company, that they might not currently believe in, or just be confused about. I would hope that they use my opportunity as a stepping stone for their own future organization. although they aren’t thinking about it. They also must learn the hard way even though I’ll be a great boss. Going through scenarios on your owncan’t be duplicated. Learning on the job is the best university.

When selling, although it can be confusing and frustrating, you are building your own business. Maybe not now, but one day in the not so distant future.

Shalom Markman cold calls not only for the thrill but also to sell merchant services. He lives in Norfolk VA with his family and visits Florida when he gets hungry.

• 4 boneless, skinless, chicken breasts, cubed

• ¼ cup pomegranate juice

• 1 tablespoon Jamie Geller Harissa

• Extra-virgin olive oil

• 1 cup dried couscous

• 1 cup boiling water

• ½ teaspoon salt

• 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

• Handful fresh mint, chopped

• Handful fresh parsley, chopped

• Handful fresh cilantro, chopped

• Juice from 1 lemon

PREPARATION

1. In a bowl, toss and coat chicken with pomegranate juice, harissa and 1 tablespoon

olive oil. Cover and marinate for 15-30 minutes.

2. Place couscous, ¼ teaspoon salt and 1 cup boiling water in a large serving bowl. Mix, cover and set aside for 10 minutes.

3. Heat a large sauté pan, coated with olive oil, over medium-high heat. Saute chicken until browned and cooked through, 5 to 10 minutes.

How One Woman is Revolutionizing Holistic Therapies in the Frum Community

In today’s fast-paced world, taking time for self-care and rejuvenation is more important than ever. However, for the frum community, finding holistic solutions that align with our values can be challenging.

Many wellness retreats and holistic therapies available today expose participants to “avoda zara,” where other religions and prayers are directly or indirectly imposed. Additionally, men and women are often treated together, potentially leading to situations that compromise tznius (modesty).

Furthermore, while some retreats offer "kosher" food by default through a vegan diet, this does not cater to everyone’s nutritional needs and health requirements.

Enter Rochel Albert’s Kosher Energy Therapy® world, offering holistic solutions to a variety of life’s challenges. Rochel dedicates her practice to fixing mental health issues and complex shalom bayis cases where traditional therapies could not help. She has earned the rabbinic approval of some of the most respected rabbis, such as Dayan Rabbi Rephoel Szmerla, world authority on alternative medicine; the Biala Institution under the leadership of the Biala Rebbe Shlit”a; Rabbi Y. Ulman, Senior Dayan Sydney Australia Beth Din; and the head of Kollel Ness Daniel, Tzfat, Rabbi Rom

Tuvia Leibner.

Kosher Energy Therapy® harnesses the power of HaShem’s energy to facilitate healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels all based on quantum science within halachic parameters. Through a combination of energy work and solutions-based coaching, Rochel Albert and her highly-trained frum practitioners, certified through her online Energy Dynamics Program (www.moodtek.com/info), have successfully helped thousands of clients in the frum community overcome obstacles, find inner peace, and restore balance in their lives. All Kosher Energy Therapy® sessions are held either virtually through Zoom or entirely remote without your presence.

Even more exciting to the frum community is Rochel Albert's

newest venture–Gan Eden Holistic Wellness Workshops and Retreats. When Rochel founded Mootek.com, she created the Energy Dynamics Program using Kosher Energy Therapy®. She also realized a massive gap in the marketplace for a location to escape to experience holistically kosher wellness on demand -- a place that offers what the Lubavitch Rebbe, Rabbi Menaħem Mendel Schneerson, often advocated for since the 70’s–kosher holistic therapies and “parve” meditation centers.

In fact, her Gan Eden Retreats startup has created such a buzz that within less than a year of successfully running her retreats, she has already impressively raised $500k in its first round of funding to establish a dedicated wellness center catering to the specific needs of the religious community.

If you’re looking for your next getaway and a chance to detox both energetically and physically, go to www.moodtek. com/retreats and check out the dates for one of Rochel’s Albert’s enriching workshops (men and women separate) and indulge in a pampering retreat at the luxurious Carillon Miami Wellness Resort. Finally, you can rest assured that you’re perfectly adhering to your kashrut and “tznius” standards. Demand is high, and space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Large piece of sturdy paper or cardboard

Colored markers or crayons

Scissors

Glue or tape

Paper fasteners

INSTRUCTIONS:

Prepare the Base:

Printouts or drawings of symbols related to each month

Ruler

Pencil

Compass (for drawing circles)

Draw a large circle on the piece of cardboard using a compass.

Divide the circle into 12 equal segments (like a pizza) using a ruler and pencil.

Label each segment with the name of a Hebrew month in order: Tishrei, Cheshvan, Kislev, Tevet, Shevat, Adar, Nisan, Iyar, Sivan, Tammuz, Av, Elul.

Create Month Symbols:

For each Hebrew month, find or draw a symbol that represents an important event or holiday in that month. For example: Tishrei: Shofar (Rosh Hashanah), Sukkah (Sukkot) | Cheshvan: Umbrella (start of the rainy season)

Decorate the Wheel:

Color each segment with a di erent color to make the wheel vibrant and attractive. Glue or draw the appropriate symbol in each segment.

Create a Spinner:

Cut a smaller circle from the remaining cardboard. This will be the spinner.

Attach an arrow to the center of this smaller circle using a fastener so that it can spin freely.

Assemble the Wheel:

Place the spinner in the center of the large circle and secure it with another fastener. Spin the wheel!

PARSHAS BALAK

STORY DID YOU KNOW?

In this week’s Parsha, Bilam tried to curse the Jewish people. On his way to the mountaintop, his donkey saw an angel in front of him, got scared, and refused to continue walking. Bilam hit the donkey and miraculously, the donkey began to speak! As Bilam tried to curse the Jews, Hashem changed his words and turned the curses into Brachos.

There was once a poor man named Yosef. Every week he saved his few coins to buy the best food for Shabbos. He was known as Yosef Mokir Shabbos (Yosef who honored Shabbos). One day, a star gazer told his wealthy neighbor that he would lose all his money and go to Yosef Mokir Shabbos. The rich man was shocked to hear this and made a plan so that Yosef would never get the money. The rich man decided to use all his money to buy a huge diamond and sewed the diamond safely into a hat. He wore this hat all the time, making sure that Yosef Mokir Shabbos would not get that diamond. One day the rich man was walking over a bridge and a gust of wind came and blew off his hat. He watched as the diamond floated into the water, and got swallowed by a large fish. The wealthy man was devastated as all his wealth was now gone. A few days later, on Erev Shabbos the fisherman caught a huge fish. He asked Yosef Mokir Shabbos if he would like to buy the fish. Of course he agreed and went to prepare the fish for Shabbos. When Yosef cut open the fish, he could not believe his eyes! Inside the fish was a huge diamond! The very diamond from the rich man’s hat. Yosef sold the diamond and became a wealthy man. Just the way Hashem had planned.

DELVING DEEPER

BRING IT HOME

Think of a time when something was really challenging for you, and you thought it wouldn’t turn out well. Then you realized that with Hashem’s help, it turned out way better than you expected.

Balak the King of Moav hires the well-known sorcerer and prophet Bilam to curse the Jewish people. However, Hash- em had a different plan and changed Bilam’s curse into a beautiful Bracha – the famous phrase that we say each morning – Mah Tovu Ohalecha Yaakov. From here we see everything comes from Hashem. Even when something seems so terrible, if Hashem wants a different outcome, anything is possible and Hashem can change something so evil into beautiful brachos.

Marbling Donkey Art

Take a big tray and fill its surface with a thick layer of shaving foam, then smooth it out.

Place the canvas back in the shaving foam. ¾ should be covered with blue and ¼ with green and yellow. Press the canvas down, then take out.

Color the donkey with a silver maker, then take a pencil and color over the nose, hair and tail. Using blue and green sharpies add details to the sky and grass.

Add drops of green and blue liquid watercolors as shown.

Take the scraper and scrape all the foam, moving from the green side to the blue. Let it dry.

Your marbling donkey art is ready!

Take a stick and make swirls on the blue side. Clean up the stick and make upward strokes on the green side as shown.

Place the donkey template on top of canvas. Take a pen and trace the donkey, by pressing hard, a colorless outline of the donkey will be left. Next, take a black sharpie and trace over outline.
