The Moskowitz brothers, reservists in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), have made a profound impact through their dedication to humanitarian aid with the founding of “Nechama and Hatzalah for Israel,” a tribute to their mother, Nechama Moskowitz.
Operating from Ramat Gan, they’ve established a command center focused on gathering significant donations for both the IDF and civilians affected in Gaza and northern Israel. Their efforts have remarkably raised over one million shekels, providing crucial military and medical supplies to soldiers, aiding wounded civilians, and supporting families displaced by conflict. To date, their organization has assisted over 11,400 IDF soldiers and 2,300 displaced families.
Moshiko Moskowitz, from Mevaseret Zion, brings a wealth of experience in volunteering and emergency medical services. His previous roles include a senior position at United Hatzalah, where he was instrumental in advancing emergency medical legislation and initiatives in Israel. Currently, Moshiko, alongside his brother and in collaboration with Ido Hagag of the Hagag group, is working on a pioneering project to create a “kitat konenut” (urban first responder squad) in Kiryat Shmona. This initiative, requiring an investment exceeding NIS
100,000, aims to establish an effective rapid response unit for potential security threats in the northern city.
While Moshiko serves in Gaza, he and his brother, Lt. Col. Shmulik Moskowitz of the Home Front Command, extend their contributions beyond financial aid, engaging in advocacy and awareness campaigns.
A significant campaign led by Moshiko involved an expedition to Brazil with influential figures to highlight the adversities faced by communities near the Gaza border. Their international efforts have attracted further donations, including a notable contribution from the Embassy of Taiwan, aimed at supporting families in the Gaza Strip and northern Israel.
In a demonstration of global solidarity, a fundraising event in Miami Beach, “Running for a Purpose,” saw participants adorned with Israeli flags and shirts commemorating captives held by Hamas, raising additional
funds for the organization. This event highlighted the widespread international support for their cause.
Founded in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, “Nechama and Hatzalah For Israel” has expanded its scope of services. Initially focusing on pandemic-related assistance, the organization now offers prehospital medical care, special ambulance services for those with severe illnesses, and supports various municipal and governmental health initiatives.
The relentless efforts of the Moskowitz brothers through “Nechama and Hatzalah For Israel” have significantly bolstered the support system for the Israeli security forces and civilians impacted by conflict. Their work not only honors the memory of their mother but also demonstrates a profound commitment to the welfare of their countrymen, embodying the spirit of community support and national service.
Archaeology is a remarkable tool for uncovering the layers of history buried beneath our feet. For the Jewish people, the ancient city of Jerusalem holds a profound and multifaceted significance, both religiously and culturally. Through meticulous excavation and study, archaeological findings have consistently supported and illuminated the deep historical connections between the Jewish people and Jerusalem, offering tangible proof of their longstanding presence in the land given to them by none other than G-d Himself.
There will be a TwoPart series of a ZOOM Archaeological Seminar about major excavations in Jerusalem and the City of David and they will even include audiovisuals of the excavations! The multimedia zoom presentation will take place on Thursday, July 25th and Thursday August 8th at 3 PM – 4:15 PM.
Keep in mind that this is the single most contentious issue in the Middle East conflict between Jews and Arabs. “This presentation will uncover powerful and convincing case

Archaeology confirms the historical accounts found in religious and historical texts and enriches our understanding of the Jewish people’s enduring connection to Jerusalem. Each artifact, structure, and inscription serves as a tangible link to the past, providing irrefutable evidence of the deep-rooted presence and influence of Jewish civilization in Jerusalem. Join this seminar and find out about your heritage and these new exciting findings.
The cost for this TwoPart Archaeology Series is only $36 and Retirees can get a scholarship. Sign up at JewishRetiree.com or call (954) 458-6000 for more info.
In what was a very moving evening for the Greater South Florida Jewish community, Netive Ezra congregation celebrated its next phase of growth by revealing plans for a significant campus building project and various community programs that will call this new campus home. Accompanied by esteemed rabbis and guests from around the world, and in the presence of the great sage, the Rishon Letzion and Chief Rabbi of Israel HaRav Yitzhak Yosef Shlita, the evening celebrated the beginnings of the community and laid out a vision for the future. The extensive plans for a new synagogue building, beit midrash, banquet hall, classrooms and much more, are a testament to the extraordinary
growth the community has experienced over the last two decades. Headed by Rabbi Avishay Levy Shlita and Rabbi Yosef Raful Shlita, the Netive Ezra community numbers in the hundreds of families and the current synagogue has served as one of the key sites for Torah learning and daily prayer in Northeast Miami Dade. The evening featured beautiful music, varied speeches and a media presentation showcasing renderings of the project. The evening concluded with a moving message and blessing from the Chief Rabbi and the momentous laying of the cornerstone for the new building. Netive Ezra invites the entire community to participate in bringing this great vision to reality.

On Wednesday, June 5th, Agudath Israel of Florida organized a mission to Washington, D.C. A delegation of men and women from districts across the state—including Surfside, Miami, Hollywood, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, West Palm Beach, Orlando, and Jacksonville—converged for a one-day advocacy and appreciation mission.
Following extensive planning and preparation, the delegation’s day was jam-packed with highlevel meetings. They met
with Senator Rick Scott, Congressman Jared Moskowitz, Congressman Brian Mast, Congressman Byron Donalds, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost, and Congressman John Rutherford. They also engaged with the offices of Senator Marco Rubio, Congresswoman Kat Cammack, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Congresswoman Laurel Lee, and Congresswoman Frederica Wilson.
These meetings, whether with the officials themselves
or their staff, were of paramount importance. The focus was on combating the alarming rise of antisemitism, advocating for the expansion of the federal nonprofit security grant program, and bolstering support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas. The discussions centered on actionable steps Congress can take as well as how constituents can contribute within their own districts.
Equally important was expressing gratitude to supportive officials. Rabbi Avrohom Luban, associate
director of Agudath Israel’s Florida office, captured this sentiment in his remarks to Senator Scott: “If we came all the way here, said thank you, and traveled back home, it would be worthwhile just to share those two words with you.”
Steve Pollack from Jacksonville emphasized the mission’s dual purpose: “We came to support those who stand with Israel. We came to show that we do exist, we are present, and we will be present on election day.”
Chumie Jacobson reflected on a key takeaway from the day: “What struck me was that when we thanked our officials for supporting the Jewish community and asked what more we could do, their responses echoed a common theme: ‘You need to show up. Your community has power—use it. Use your voice. The other side is present in our halls every day, so it is imperative that you come too.’ It became clear how vital it is to be there in person, to express our gratitude tangibly, and to put real faces to the causes that they champion.”
Baruch Hashem, all in all, the mission was a tremendous success. As Klal Yisroel navigates unprecedented and tumultuous times, it is our collective responsibility to take action and make a difference. That’s what this mission was all about.

The Mizrahi Family Torah Academy (MTA) recently hosted a vibrant Business Fair organized by their enterprising middle school girls. The event was a remarkable showcase of creativity, business acumen, and community spirit.
The fair featured an array of artisan and bespoke items, including beautifully bedazzled bracelets and necklaces, luxurious creams and bath salts, personalized caricatures, charming stickers, stylish swag, homemade slime, and delightful handcrafted perfumes. Each product reflected the students’ hard work and unique talents.
The initiative was more than just a display of craftsmanship. The young entrepreneurs took the project seriously, creating detailed business plans, managing budgets, and projecting profits and losses. They even designed
advertisements to promote their products, demonstrating impressive business skills.
The event was a tremendous success, with staff and students enthusiastically purchasing the handmade items. The funds raised from the fair were donated to Hatzalah, local animal shelters, and a lone soldier fund.
The Business Fair was not only a fun and educational experience but also a testament to the potential and dedication of our students. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to more such inspiring initiatives in the future.

Baruch Hashem, we live in a modern era, with all sorts of conveniences and appliances. I began to appreciate these items more than usual when my wife was sick and I was doing lots of laundry. It was even more than the normal amount since, several times, my dear wife wanted her bedsheets changed and she was so weak she couldn’t do it. I just put myself in Rabbi Akiva mode, (remember when he took care of a sick student and cleaned up the house and revived him?) and dove in like a professional.
One of these appliances, called a “clothes dryer,” is also really good at drying nonclothing items like towels. Interestingly, when towels are washed and then dried in the dryer, they somehow give up a large number of fibers and threads which make their way into the lint trap. It’s amazing we have any towels left at all!
The lint trap is a screen inside the front of the machine which is hooked to the external vent. The airflow pushes these fibers towards the outside, and the trap catches them, along with dust, as part of a new item, lint. Sometimes you
collect these little gray bits of fluff in your pockets and you suddenly find this lint you didn’t put in there, but certainly want to get out.
You might be surprised to learn that when lint fills this screen, it doesn’t get dissolved or swallowed up like a garbage disposal might do to potato peels or leftover cholent. Instead, it waits for you to clean the trap and remove the lint manually. Pro Tip: If you ever go camping, or might need an emergency fire, lint is excellent as kindling, and it can be stuffed into empty cardboard toilet paper tubes to make fire starter logs. Just be careful to store it properly as it is highly flammable.
My dryer has a handy feature, in that it blinks,
“CHECK FILTER” when you are starting a load in the dryer. This serves as a visual reminder that if the trap is full, it won’t have anyplace to go (and could cause a fire, perhaps.) But therein lies the trap!
You see, the dryer doesn’t actually know if the filter is clogged or not. It just reminds you every time. That opens the door to assuming everything is fine and that it’s just an unnecessary warning light. “I’ll check it before the next load; I don’t need to be bothered with it now. I’m in a hurry.” Because we know that it’s possibly a premature cautionary notice, we aren’t driven to act on it right away.
When your car’s gas gauge light turns on, for example, you know that pretty soon you’ll be running on fumes, and you want to get gas as soon as possible. Sure, there are some who enjoy the sport of trying to see how far they can push this, especially in cars that tell you you’ve got 4 miles left or whatever. But that’s a game you prefer not to lose. If you hit zero and there’s no gas station in sight, you may get stuck.
But not so the “Check Filter” warning on my dryer. “If something happens, I’ll take care of it then.” You feel you won’t be too far gone to be able to correct it, but even if this might be true for your dryer, it isn’t true for life. Throughout our lives, Hashem flashes us “Check Filter” warnings. They may be little things we barely notice, or significant things that make us pay attention. They are sent by the Manufacturer as a help to us, to direct us to perform necessary maintenance and get rid of unwanted junk. But He doesn’t do the cleaning for us.
Instead, Hashem gives us signals that we need to take action before things start to break down and fall apart. He warns us to be cognizant of our cleanliness status on a regular basis; to make sure we don’t have a build-up of junk we ought to be getting rid of.
But since we assume nothing is imminent, and that we will have time to correct whatever we need to, we often ignore the signs and fall into the trap; the trap of complacency and laziness that could spell trouble in the long run.
Well, when I was drying towels that day, I decided
I might as well check the filter. Inside I found a wad of lint that could have made a wonderful pillow, and which could have led to catastrophe had I let it go on much longer. It made me realize just how important it was to heed those blinking reminders to clean up our acts, because the longer we ignore them, the more we will have to deal with later on – and one day, it just might be too late.

Every day, you as a consumer are bombarded by marketing tactics that you may or not be sensitive to. Wherever you look, you will find discounts such as 10% off a particular item, $25 off your purchase if you spend more than $150, or buy one and get one at half price – to name a few. These offers are designed to pique your interest and encourage you to choose a particular product or payment method. However, with so many options, knowing these marketing tactics can make you a much more informed consumer and help you save lots of money.
As Jonah Berger writes in his acclaimed book, “Contagious,” there are many subtle ways of framing the same information that can make consumers more compelled to purchase.
Understanding some basic market and marketing tactics can help you not only find the best deals but also help you save a small fortune on large purchases.
Berger gives a poignant example. Imagine a casual clothing store owner that’s having a sale. Usually, a particular line of t-shirts costs
$20 per shirt, but the owner wants to mark them down to $15 a piece. There are two ways the store owner could advertise that discount. One would be as a percentage. Going from $20 to $15 would be 25% off. Alternatively, the store owner could also discount the same amount as an absolute number - $5 off. Which way is better?
He introduces another example, taking the same situation but upping the stakes. Rather than a $20 t-shirt, what would happen with a $2,000 laptop. A 25% discount would take it down to $1500, and $500 off should equal the same amount. In both cases, the laptop would cost $1500. It turns out that it doesn’t feel the same to the consumer. For a $2,000 item, $500 off seems more significant than 25%, which makes people more likely to purchase when they see the absolute dollar discount.
Berger introduces a principle from retail marketing called The Rule of 100. The Rule of 100 says that under 100 percentage discounts seem larger than absolute ones. But over 100, things reverse. Over 100,
absolute discounts seem larger than percentage ones.
In today’s highly competitive mortgage market, I am seeing similar marketing tactics that persuade shoppers into unfavorable terms. For instance, consider two mortgage offers: Offer A: 0.25% off your interest rate or Offer B $1,000 less in closing costs. Just like retailers use discounts to catch your attention, brokers and lenders use different methods to make their mortgage offers more appealing.
My advice is to look beyond the initial offer. Calculate the total cost of the mortgage, including interest payments over the life of the loan and any upfront fees. Consider the Short-Term and LongTerm Savings. An interest rate reduction can lead to one form of savings but might not be as impactful as a dollar discount upfront. It would be best to determine what’s more important for you - lowering your monthly payments or your upfront costs. This will help you decide which type of discount to prioritize.
Finding the best mortgage deal requires careful consideration of how offers
are presented. Remember, the best deal isn’t always the one that looks the most attractive at first glance—it’s the one that offers the most value for your specific situation. As with any large purchase, you need personalized advice and guidance. Now more than ever, you need to consult with expert and trusted mortgage advisors and real estate professionals who can help you navigate the complexities of home financing. Good luck
out there!
