Are you aware of the hidden treasure nestled in Hollywood, Florida, known as the Sholom Naftali Library (SNL)?

This library was initiated by the Walnut Creek Jewish community. and serves as a welcoming cozy corner for the entire Jewish population of South Florida. It’s a library where you can you can easily dive into fantastic Jewish books and immerse yourself in the world of Jewish literature.

So, what’s the story behind this library?

Hollywood’s Hidden Gem Unveiled:

Discovering the Sholom Na ali Library (SNL)

In 2022, Faye Sossonko and Eli Spalter decided to honor their uncle, Sholom Naftali Sufrin ob”m, who tragically passed away as an infant, by creating a space where Jewish books are accessible, and where children can immerse themselves in adventure, unravel ancient mysteries, and experience the stories of Tzadikim come to life.

Now, just over a year later, there are over 1,600 books sitting on the shelves,

waiting for eager hands to pick them up. From comics that’ll make you chuckle to biographies that’ll inspire you, from exciting tales to life lessons, and everything in between, SNL has something for everyone. Trust me; you won’t leave empty-handed!

But it’s not just about the books but the community. Hudi & Simi, two of the library’s teenage volunteers, are buzzing with excitement seeing kids dive into

reading like never before. “The response has been amazing,” these volunteer librarians say, “Children are reading more, and we keep getting requests for more books or series.”

SNL hosts library days twice a week, where you can hang out, explore the collection, and maybe stumble upon your next favorite book, and their fullyfunctional online library catalog lets their users peruse and reserve online! Plus, they team up with Bais Dovid Guarantors (BDG), a shul for the kids, by the kids, to create a special space for kids to daven and learn, adding that extra touch of warmth and connection. As

Rabbi Zalman Korf put it, “The Sholom Naftali Library is not just a place for books; it’s a hub of knowledge, inspiration, and community connection.”

SNL is all about community and they’re giving everyone a chance to get involved! Whether donating books or volunteering as a librarian, every bit counts. Faye Sossonko says, “We’re always

open to book donations and looking to expand our hours with more volunteers.”

Oh, and let’s not forget about the library’s annual fundraising raffle! It’s a win-win situation - you get a shot at some cool prizes, and you’re supporting SNL’s mission simultaneously. This year, a bunch of goodies are up for grabs, including health and beauty packages, electronics, and a Grand Prize package of $900 worth of gift cards to some of the best kosher spots in South Florida.

So, why not hop on over to BDGKids. com/snlraffle2, join the fun, and help spread the love of reading in the greater South Florida community. Let’s support the power of reading and strengthen our community one page at a time!

SNL gives a big shout out to their generous sponsors including; Bubby’s Fish & Chips, Dabush Shawarma, Fialkoff ’s Kosher Pizza, Fuego by Mana, KC Market, La Matera Argentinian Fusion, Moran Patisserie Baker, South Florida Kosher, and Zohar’s Gelato and Pizza!

Spotlight on The Mizrahi Family Torah Academy: A Journey of Growth and a Vision for the Future

In the span of just 5 years, the Mizrahi Family Torah Academy (MTA) has blossomed from its modest beginning as a Homeschool Learning Center, into a flourishing educational community, located on the sprawling campus of the Soref JCC in Plantation. The Yeshiva is founded on Chazal’s principles of holistic education, under the guidance and leadership of Rabbi Avrohom Yachnes, and is now home to over 100 eager learners in its separate Boys and Girls divisions! Through it all, MTA has always remained steadfast in its mission to cultivate lifelong learners who will positively impact their greater communities, while maintaining a deep love for our rich Mesorah.

One of the hallmarks of MTA’s approach is guiding children on their individual journey of growth and development by focusing on the root causes of challenges, and helping each child make their way forward, academically, socially, and emotionally. This is accomplished by encouraging self-reflection, and promoting a growth mindset - both in, and out, of the classroom. MTA staff members strive to model this approach, by consistently seeking to identify, communicate, and address areas for improvement in curriculum, communication, and operations, and this commitment to excellence, along with a strong yeshiva-parent partnership has been a cornerstone of MTA’s success.

Through this lens, MTA is now beginning a new chapter, by exploring accreditation. The accreditation journey is being approached, not just as a formal process, but as an opportunity to enhance MTA’s distinctive approach to education. Central to MTA’s ethos is the commitment to ‘educate, but differently.’ MTA cherishes its homey, familial atmosphere, the joy of learning, and the freedom for children to be children. In pursuit of accreditation, MTA is determined to preserve these qualities, ensuring they remain integral to its identity and mission.

To guide this ambitious endeavor, MTA has welcomed Dr. Racquel Lipscomb to its family. Dr. Lipscomb, with her extensive experience in

educational leadership and curriculum development, including; serving as an Intern Principal at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Elementary School Principal, an Education Director for a Title One program for 55 Private Schools, and most recently as a District Administrator for MiamiDade Schools. Dr. Lipscomb will be an in-house guide, steering MTA through the accreditation process. Dr. Lipscomb is currently taking her time in learning and integrating into MTA’s unique culture.

program for 55 Private Schools,

mind, body, and spirit of its learners. The MTA

actively in this exciting phase of growth.

MTA continues to grow, as it remains an innovative, holistic Yeshiva, educating the mind, body, and spirit of its learners. The MTA community is invited to engage with Dr. Lipscomb, share insights, and participate actively in this exciting phase of growth.

MTA welcomes the greater South Florida community to join them on this chapter in their journey. No matter which school community you are a part of, together, we are building our future.

This development is one application of MTA’s hallmark approach to education and wholesome development, limiting class sizes to 10 students, while maximizing each child’s educational experience, with meaningful relationships, and hands-on activities. To learn more about MTA’s “Power of 10” students in a classroom and unique approach to cultivating a love for our Mesorah, and giving each child the opportunity to reach their full potential, please visit MTA’s website at www.mtacademy.org, email office@mtacademy.org, or call 954-526-5253 - We’d love to hear from you!

Navigating the Dynamic South Florida Real Estate Market:

Signs of a Changing Market

Carroll Group at Compass.

With our team consistently ranked #1 throughout Compass Florida and the top 1% nationallyfacilitating nearly 6 Billion dollars in home sales - I bring you insights grounded in experience and authenticity, backed by the most up-to-date sources.

Market Overview: A Seller's Haven Turns

Since January 2021, South Florida has been a seller's market, with housing prices reaching unprecedented levels. However, since July 2023, we've observed a pivotal shift marked by rising inventory, signaling a changing of the guard; but don’t expect a bursting bubble.

The notion of a "bubble" often comes up from comparisons with the 2008 housing crisis. However, the current situation differs significantly. Before 2021, the South Florida housing market was undervalued. The pandemicinduced relocation wave accelerated growth, balancing pricing with market demand — what we are experiencing is a

The Signs of Change

Initially, the signs of a rising inventory could have been dismissed as a minor fluctuation. But, we're now seeing a clearer trend: as inventory steadily increases, the market will need to adjust. While it's natural for housing prices to ebb and flow, were seeing an undeniable correlation between inventory levels and pricing trends.

Housing inventory by the Numbers: July 2023 - January 2024

- Miami Dade: Inventory rose from 8,992 to 12,327, marking a 14% year-over-year increase.

- Broward: Saw a surge from 7,363 to 11,431 units, a 42.9% increase.

- Palm Beach: Inventory climbed from 7,046 to 10,770, up by 32.5%.

Days a property sat on market also extended slightly across the board, further indicating a market shift.

The data clearly show a market transition, with rising inventory leading to more negotiating power for buyers. This shift, coupled with a modest increase in days to close, signals a gradual move towards a more balanced market.

Practical Tips

- For Sellers: Enhance your home's value through strategic improvements and savvy marketing to achieve the best sale price. Buyers will continue to pay a premium for turn-key properties.

- For Buyers: Look for properties that offer great value, and align your offers with current market conditions for the best deal.

Lost Opportunities. The Cost of Waiting.

The cost of waiting can be steep, often leading to missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential. From delaying financial investments to hesitating on significant life decisions, the consequences of inaction can be substantial.

An Instagram post has gone viral, garnering over 2 million views since being posted a short time ago. The post read, “My goddaughter will have $7.6 Million by the time she is 65.” Her genius plan … start investing immediately.

The woman explained that she would open a custodial brokerage account for the baby when it is born. She will initially fund the account with $1,000 and automate a $100 monthly deposit. She will also contribute $500 annually on her goddaughter’s birthday. The funds will be invested in an S&P 500 tracking ETF, which returns approximately 10% annually.

I haven’t verified the calculations, but she explains that she will stop contributing to the account when the kid turns 18. Given a 10% return, the account will have approximately $86,189 at that time. Using the premise of compounding interest, by the time the person turns 65, she will have $7.6 million in her account.

This is not a new phenomenon, and many financial advisors preach consistent automated investing at an early age. But the premise about the cost of waiting and lost opportunities is very much fundamental - and not just when it comes to investing.

Another area where the cost

of waiting can be detrimental is homeownership. Many individuals delay buying a home in the US or Israel due to concerns about market fluctuations or waiting for interest rates to drop. Many don’t consider buying investment properties or participating in real estate opportunities because “it’s too late.”

Waiting for the perfect timing often results in missed opportunities and lost real estate advantages. These benefits include building equity through mortgage payments, saving on rent expenses, and capitalizing on historically appreciating property values.

Here’s another simple example that I am sure many can relate to. How often do homeowners forgo on home improvements or repairs because of costs, only to be forced to do so when they are looking to sell their house? Instead of finding a prudent way to improve their circumstances earlier and enjoy those upgrades, they wait till the last moment, only to make those improvements to be enjoyed by someone else.

When it comes to earnings potential, the lost opportunities are

numerous and costly. Most people stick to a traditional 9-5 wage earner lifestyle. They neglect the potential for income diversification through investments, side hustles, or career enhancements. The cost of waiting to explore supplementary income opportunities limits financial growth and restricts personal fulfillment.

Instead of waiting for the perfect moment to ask for a raise or pursue alternative income channels, individuals can take proactive steps to unlock hidden talents and potential. Whether it’s starting a side business or seeking career advancement opportunities, diversifying income streams can be life-changing. I have partnered with a career coaching company that helps people discover their unique gifts and strengths through certified personalized aptitude testing. We help people of all ages –especially college students – determine custom career and education paths to maximize their capabilities and earnings potential.

As I mentioned on a recent podcast where I was interviewed –“success is not solely measured by financial metrics such as net worth or salary. True success is realized when individuals accomplish the goals they set out to achieve, no matter how big or small.” Individuals can build a life of fulfillment, accomplishment, and lasting success by continuously striving for personal and financial growth and seizing opportunities as they arise.

The Tightrope of Inbound Leads

“Hi this is Talya N. I received your phone number from Simcha D. We are looking to set up two different healthcare facilities with credit card systems. If you can return my call, I’d appreciate it.”

I knew right away who Simcha was. He had reached out to me back in September, six months prior, regarding my services with some questions. Here was Talya, the office manager, getting in touch all this time later, ready to bring me on as their provider. I was stoked.

What had I done, or not done in the meantime to earn their trust? Did I really keep quiet during those last six months? Had I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best? Had I followed up like crazy until they just wanted me off their tail and gave me their business? Maybe I totally forgot about our interaction in the first place.

This question, of how to follow up is something that salespeople, like me, are constantly juggling. Hint, there really is no perfect answer. However, breaking down what took place between myself and this healthcare company during these months should help shed an approach of what can work.

As I was writing this article, I decided to count the number of touches between Simcha, the decision maker, and myself. We totaled fiftynine touches together from his first message to me, “you have a credit card co right?” until the call received from Talya.

How many of those touches were actually about my services? I counted

those too. In total, there were nine back and forth texts and voice notes, including one video message I sent within two days back in September. After that, crickets, at least in the context of my services.

The other forty-nine were touches had nothing to do with my actual product or in any way geared to what I wanted from them. The next time I made contact with Simcha, was him actually reaching back out to me for a small favor in November. I came through. The following touch was made by me in December. I reached out to him with an opportunity I thought could benefit him. He was interested but it hadn’t planned out.

Nowhere in our joint communications since his initial inquiry, did I bring up my services. I didn’t follow up at all. Well, not directly that is. Instead, I simply stayed in his orbit. He stayed in mine as well. After not hearing back on our initial conversation, was I worried that I had priced him too high? On a small level.

Was I worried that he didn’t need my services anymore? On a small level. When a potential client comes knocking, however, it’s them that has a need for our services. Once we demonstrate our value, sit back and relax. It’s completely out of our control.

Is there anything else we can do? Yes. Don’t be in their face constantly following up. Instead, be a pleasure to be around. People do business with people that they like. Why would this prospect choose to bring someone into his or her orbit that nags at them? It’s likely due to your good name that they originally got in touch. Keep it that way. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t follow up, but it doesn’t have to be directly. They know what you’re about. Instead, be a value-add in the meanwhile. There are numerous ways. Try referring business their way. That will go very far. If you’re both local, greet them when you see each other and you don’t need to talk about your initial conversation unless they bring it up. I’ve sent a small gift at times, and it works wonders to open the conversation back up.

Remember, you have the upper hand if they came to you. Take advantage the right way and you won’t be surprised when the deal closes.

ISRAEL PURIM INITIATIVE

Mishloach Manot for Israeli Soldiers and Displaced Families

Kotel Connections has initiated a new program to send Purim gifts to our Israeli heroes. Your shalach manot goodies not only offer a sweet treat, but will bring joy and hope to our displaced brothers and sisters, most of whom will not be at their homes for Purim celebrations. Sending shalach manot is not only a mitzvah, but is also a beautiful gesture to let them know that the Jews around the world are united and supportive.

Kotel Connections makes sending a festive gift easy. Click on the https://www.

kotelconnections.org/ mishloach-manos link, select one of the reasonably priced tray of noshes, include a personal note to a soldier or displaced family, and Candies2Go takes care of the packaging and delivering of your Purim present.

This innovative idea of showing achdus and hopefully bringing inspiration to our displaced soldiers and families is not a new concept for Kotel Connections. The basis for Kotel Connections is founded on the success that Rabbi Meir Shuster ZT”L had in helping thousands

of Jews become baalei teshuva by tapping them on the shoulder at the Kotel, giving a bit of Torah and chizuk, and then following up by sending them as a guest for a true Shabbos experience.

That’s where Kotel Connections picks up. Since 2022, Kotel Connections has inspired over a thousand yidden at the Kotel and has matched hundreds of them with Shabbos hosts, rabbis, and classes in their hometown upon their return. The homes for these visitors so far have been from twenty-five countries worldwide, including North and

P.44 / TSFCOMMUNITYVOICE.COM FOOD

South America, Europe, and Israel.

Kotel Connections was founded by Rabbi Avi Zaitschek who has brought on a prestigious team of professionals. Chesky Kauftheil, an internationally known successful business executive, is Kotel Connections’ Senior Advisor with Rabbi Berel Simpser as COO. Rabbi Bentzion Klatzko was the Senior Consultant for the first sixteen months in helping expedite the organization’s launching. In addition to other professionals, the rabbinic advisors include Rabbi Michel Twerski from Milwaukee and Rabbi Yizchok Berkowitz, Rosh Yeshiva at Aish Hatorah. While Kotel Connections is an independent kiruv organization, they have sent students to Aish, Ohr Sameach, and Neve. Kotel Connections has successfully sent not-yet observant visitors to organizations such as

Chabad, Partners in Torah, Lev L’Achim, and numerous others.

Rabbi Simpser is a wellknown kiruv Rabbi who has worked in American kiruv for many decades. Rabbi Simpser says, “Kosher Connections’ goal is to meet Jewish nashamas and help them connect to their Judaism, anywhere and anytime.”

One of the Simpsers’ daughters, Chaya Scherman of Neve Yaakov, along with her husband Eli have been creating beautiful food gifts for more than eleven years. The mainstay of their candy shop is simcha platters and Cadies2Go (candies2Go.com) makes it easy to send celebratory or thank-you gifts to loved ones in Israel. The success of their endeavors can be seen in the expansion of their menu including healthy alternatives as well as gluten-free options.

While the mainstay goal of

Kotel Connections is to bring Kotel visitors closer to their Jewish heritage, outreach to the soldiers and displaced families became an additional priority after October 7th. Kotel Connections’ front line kiruv professionals have been providing outreach and programs to the families living in hotels in the North and South, as well as providing equipment and food to our soldiers.

Sending shalach manot presents a beautiful opportunity to combine the mainstay mission of bringing our brothers and sisters closer to Judaism while showing the unity of Am Yisrael Chai… and Candies2Go makes it easy!

Kosher Recipes Made Easy

CREAMY BAKED ZITI

INGREDIENTS

• 1 (1-pound) box ziti or penne rigate

• 2 (26-ounce) jars prepared marinara sauce

• 1 (32-ounce) container ricotta cheese

• 2 (8-ounce) packages shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

PREPARATION

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9 x 13inch pan with non-stick cooking spray.

2. Cook ziti about 2 to 3 minutes less than package directions for al dente pasta. Drain, rinse with cold water to stop the cooking and set aside.

3. In a large bowl, mix marinara sauce, ricotta and 1 cup of mozzarella.

4. Pour about 2 cups of the sauce mixture in prepared pan, spreading over bottom.

5. Combine ziti and remaining sauce mixture and stir until well combined, making sure there are no dry patches of pasta. Pour into pan and spread to edges.

6. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella over ziti to cover.

7. Spray a sheet of aluminum foil with cooking spray and cover ziti. This will keep the cheese from sticking to the foil.

8. Bake, covered, at 375 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Uncover and continue baking until cheese is golden brown and bubbly.

9. Serve hot, straight out of the pan.

TIPS

• One of the secrets to this ziti is that the pasta is slightly undercooked before it goes into the oven, which helps prevent it from becoming too mushy.
