Baby Pack Infant Carrier design for Ford with integrated SYNC technology
Research
“ 3 out of 4 car seats are not used correctly Every year, thousands of young children are killed or injured in crashes, mainly because 3 out of every 4 children in child safety seats are not properly secured, or even worse, not restrained at all.”
Frontal and frontal offset crashes combine for about 72% of severe crashes. Side impacts are about 24%. Rear and rear offset crashes only account for about 4%.
“Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children from 3 to 14 years old.” All car seats rated by NHTSA meet Federal Safety Standards & strict crash performance standards.
Mary is an active stay-at-home mom who enjoys working on house projects. She normally does most of her errands while her husband is at home so he can watch the children while she is out and about. Mary thinks her baby carrier is too big and bulky for her to handle both children and any extra bags which makes running errands difficult when she has both children with her. Mary and her husband own two vehicles - a sedan and a pickup truck. Each one has a set of front facing seat carriers along with a booster chair because it is easier than having to move the car seat all the time. They also own a sling, a baby backpack and a rear-facing carrier that are stored in their closet because both of their children out-grew them. Ideally Mary is looking for a carseat that is cost-effective, adjusts to children’s size as they grow, and is easy to transport.

Problems Lack Security, Monitoring (Behavior, Vitals, overall health) Too heavy, time consuming, uncomfortable, car seat expires, awkward handle, weight distribution.
Emotions Insecurity, frustration, impatience, unaware, preoccupation.
Persona
Parent needs How to design a car seat for families on the go? How can it be easier to hold? How can it be lightweight and still keep the infant safe? How can the parents just use one hand or even have a free hand carrier? How can it be more comfortable to carry and to lock inside the vehicle? How can the parent better monitor their child while driving?
Company Desires How can it be seamlessly integrated to the car and be synchronized with SYNC technology? How can the child be placed in a 180 degree position and still have lumbar support during long trips?

Journey Bag Thesis Project Learn. Engage. Share
Thesis Statement K-12 classes have become outdated because the learning experience doesn’t allow critical thinking. We need to motivate today’s students to become more engaged and responsible of their education by introducing creative problem solving and design inside their classroom.
Vision Offer students the opportunity to use the tools of the design process to improve their overall learning experience and engagement inside and outside their classrooms.
Teacher’s role: Stage the Stage. Give lecture day after day

Market Research Online - Education technology
Why not a Ed- Tech Product?
Technology is a powerful tool, but there is a need for training and preparation to fully take advantage of these products. Unfortunately, teachers, schools and districts simply don’t have the time or the resources to spend getting trained on how to get the most out of them.
School
Why not a curriculum or school plan?
Time, training and budget are the three biggest constrains when a new school program or curriculum is offered. Unfortunately, many programs out there don’t have quantitative and qualitative data available to prove the effectiveness of them and teacher are not paid extra for additional time expend learning new program standards.
Learning Programs
Why a Learning Methodology?
Design driven programs offered to K-12 students are targeted to teachers, students, parents not schools or districts. These programs often times are available for free and teachers are able to easily adjust these programs to their current curriculum. They are just available resources and guides to anyone with the desire to change their teaching and learning style. Summer Camps
Why not a summer Camp?
Summer camps and workshops are expensive and not available to everyone. Either their target audience is limited or not available everywhere. They are a great introduction to a better learning experience, but are they don’t last long enough to make a long term difference.

Teacher
Facilitator Major Constrains:
Possible Solutions: “Learn by Doing” take learning topic “Subject” and give it to the students to interpret it. - The encyclopedia of Design - Design for the student and educator of the future - Learning thru participation ing
- Activities that drive engagement - Drive Alignment and facilitate understand-
- How we talk about things? How we describe what we do? - Connect the Dots: Instead of having individual homework use what you learn in class(es) to make a connection between them.
“Less school, more exploration time” “Connecting creates great opportunities” -Rosetta Stone for Design -Learn the process -Ways to apply it -Language/terms
- District Budget - Time - Curriculum Regulations - Old Teaching Habits
- Tell a story that can change the world from what you have learned in school. - Suprise Box- Open tools, materials, challenge. How can students put them together. - Designers get the child out of you and start making a difference.
Opportunities: - Applicable to New Common Core Standards - 21st Century Education - Design Thinking Process - Indoor and outdoor learning - Applicable to most class subjects
-IDEO cards for educators - Manual for Education from IDEO - IDEO cards - Next.cc Journeys - Challenges - Learn something you didn’t know before.
- Journey Buddy - Not limited just for school use

NEXT.cc, a website dedicated to offer journeys and opportunities of learning to any student around the world. The journeys of Next.cc are key elements to demonstrate how my content and product works as a whole. They mentioned time and time again the difference between teaching students to learn rather than to perform. The opportunity to allow students to apply associate their school learning to real life situations
