n yoga class last week, the instructor professed, in her calming but convincing tone, the importance of pausing to take in your surroundings, focus on your breath, and appreciate the little things in life. While this wasn’t the first time I’d received this counsel, its timing was fitting. The fall season is one of my busiest; I often find myself operating in a blur of activity without much pause for reflection. Some days I feel like I’m working in a triage unit, bustling to complete whatever task is most critical. As I sat on my yoga mat, eyes closed and Ujjayi breathing in full effect, I felt the power of a pause. It caught my attention and propelled me to reflect on my surroundings and appreciate them. Despite my long to-do list, the feeling still lingers and grounds me. Those kinds of moments—which sometimes happen involuntarily—make significant the everyday. Seeking them out can make a pivotal day, like your wedding, even more special. Time flies when you are busy planning such a big occasion. One minute you’re setting the date, the next you’re slipping into your gown, and before you know it, you’re waving goodbye to your guests. The day is over in a flash. Katie and Ben in “Carefully Crafted” (page 90) make it a priority to push pause on their busy lives in Southern California to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the natural world. They chose to host a quaint backyard ceremony and reception with sixty-five guests at The Bentwood Inn. Nial and Sean in “Perfect Timing” (page 68) took a couple-year hiatus from wedding planning to live life to its fullest. After their son turned one, they revisited the idea of making their union official and hosted an intimate wedding to celebrate their marriage and small family. Kelly and Aaron in “A Magical Weekend” (page 64) stepped away from their reception to reflect on their special day, loving guests, and beautiful setting. I hope all the couples paused to savor their wedding day’s treasured moments. In addition to the weddings profiled, we assembled other stories to help you plan and relish your upcoming nuptials in the Tetons. Sue Muncaster (“For the Love of Adventure,” page 22) offers a playlist of wild and mild Teton-area adventures for you to enjoy with your wedding party and guests. Jeannette Boner reflects on her wedding-day photographer experience to give compelling advice on why hiring a professional is key to long-term-memory keepsakes in “Investing In Your Memories” (page 26). In “And To Top It All Off ” (page 30), Mel Paradis outlines options for tailoring your wedding cake topper to fit your personal style. Speaking of personal style, Virginia Symons delves into modern elopement by showcasing three weddings in “Intimate Teton Weddings” (page 34). And, if you’re looking for ways to preserve your wedding dress, check out “A Treasured Keepsake” (page 40) for suggestions. This edition is filled with creative ideas and useful tools for you to celebrate your special day and enjoy a few pauses along the journey! Congratulations and best wishes,

FOR THE LOVE OF ADVENTURE Wild & mild options in the Tetons
W
By Sue Muncaster
hile planning and executing a wedding is an escapade in itself, don’t let the big day go by without sharing a true adventure with your guests. Whether it’s wild or mild, let down your hair, get some exercise, relax in the area’s natural beauty, and revel in quality time with the people you love. Fly For the ultimate bachelor/bachelorette party or family reunion, imagine Swiss Family Robinson meets the X Games when considering Jackson’s newest attraction, the Treetop Adventure Park at Snow King Mountain. Built by world-class mountain guides, this aerial adventure park features close to one hundred challenges that snake through the pine forest. After a safety brief, you’ll clip in and ride zip lines, shimmy over suspended bridges, scramble up nets, cross swinging logs, and even ride an aerial skateboard. The course progresses in difficulty, so people (ages seven and up) of all abilities can reach new heights in a secure, natural environment. Spectators can do laps on the new Cowboy Coaster or ride the scenic lift to the summit of Snow King. Gather post-adventure at the base of the course for a catered picnic or zoom down the Alpine Slide together to a private party at Haydens Post in the Snow King Hotel. Shoot What could offer a more authentic Wild West experience than shooting a gun? The top-notch crew at the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience can customize an afternoon for up to 22
forty people. Guests rotate through “shooting stations” and can try out everything from historical rifles to modern, long-range weapons, pistols and revolvers; shoot shotguns at sporting clays; and experience both primitive and modern archery equipment. Whether participants are experienced shooters or neophytes, the coaches guarantee a safe, educational, and fun experience. After leaving the shooting range south of Jackson, consider stopping at The Bird—a favorite watering spot for Jackson locals—or reserving a private room for your celebration at the more upscale Rendezvous Bistro. Climb While scaling the granite walls of the Tetons may seem like an unlikely group activity, there are a handful of places where people of all ages and abilities can get on a rope. We actually spent a week before our wedding in a group campsite at City of Rocks National Reserve in Southern Idaho, where our friends got to know each other so well that another wedding came out of it! For day trips, climbing at Hidden Falls near Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park (where nonclimbers can enjoy the hiking and the boat trip) with Exum Mountain Guides is an obvious choice; other alternatives in the park include Boulder Island on Leigh Lake, which is accessed by canoe or paddleboard (offering plenty of swimming and hiking options), Boulder Town near Jenny Lake Lodge, and Rock Springs Buttress near the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Relive the day’s adventure and drink in Grand Teton views with a cold beverage and old-fashioned cowboy grub at the Chuckwagon or gooey pizza and fine wine on the rooftop at Dornan’s, both in Moose.

INVESTING IN YOUR MEMORIES Finding the right wedding photographer
W
By Jeannette Boner
e were married on a beautiful day in September ten years ago. I walked down the aisle of the Chapel of the Transfiguration, my father on one arm, my friends and family lining the wooden pews. It was picture-perfect, as any wedding in the Tetons can be given the amazing natural backdrops. I loved my dress, thought Brad looked handsome despite needing a haircut, and was happy to see all my friends and family. The whirlwind of anticipation and excitement perfectly melded on that fall afternoon. I remember taking a huge deep breath, and then it was over. Like many of us, I spent a good deal of time reviewing that day—the good stuff, the stressful stuff, the unexpected stuff that is the icing on the cake (most of the time). I will be completely honest with you: if I could do it all over again, I would hire a professional photographer who is not a family friend. There. I said it. We hired a friend who is a professional photographer. He was invited to the wedding anyway, but we paid him a few bucks to snap a few pictures of the ceremony and reception. He brought a date and hung with his friends. I never talked to him before the wedding to map out a plan. I just thought, Surely the photos will be great; he knows what to do. While I have a nice set of photos, I look back on these pictures and think, Drat, I wish I had been more thoughtful about how I recorded this day. I wish I had been more involved with preserving these memories. If I were to do it all over again, this is what I would do:

AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF Wedding cake toppers
egend has it, in the mid-to-late nineteenth century, the daughter of a baker asked her father to create a symbol of love for all her wedding guests to see. After much time and trial, he decided to place a figurine on the cake to represent his daughter and another one for her betrothed. These figures were to symbolize the couple’s love and unity. When the daughter saw them, she was overjoyed and placed the cake—with its figurines— at the center of her wedding. The wedding cake topper was born. Although this is likely just a legend, ornamental decorations have been adorning the tops of wedding cakes for well over a century. While figurines of brides and grooms have been the classic choice for the past hundred-plus years, today’s couples have almost countless options available to them. Kjera Strom Henrie, wedding planner for Grand Teton Weddings & Events, advises,

“It’s nice to coordinate with the overall feel of your day through fresh flowers or colors, but don’t be afraid to have a little fun with a cake topper that really shows your personalities.” Whether you serve a three-tiered wedding cake, cupcakes, pies, or some other confection, you can personalize your dessert table. With toppers ranging from simple flowers to traditional figurines to whimsical pieces of art, there is something out there for everyone. Get ideas by looking through bridal magazines, Pinterest boards, Etsy, and eBay. “With there being so many cake toppers out there, it can become overwhelming to choose one. My advice is to have a topper created custom that reflects the couple, the event, or something significant in their life,” says Ashley Ost of Everything but the Dress and Roam Mercantile and Makery. Not sure where to begin? Here are just some of the options available to you:

Figurines Figures of brides and grooms became increasingly popular in the twentieth century. Companies like Sears Roebuck sold massproduced statuettes starting in the 1920s. By the 1950s, these toppers became a symbol of togetherness and were a mainstay at most weddings. Bride and groom figures are made of varying materials from plastic to glass, clay to fondant. Artists can customize figurines to look like you, your fiancé, and even your beloved pet. Search Etsy or ask your dessert chef for options. Interested in adding vintage elements to your special day? Ask if your grandparents still have their topper or search eBay for toppers from the twenties, thirties, or forties.
UNIQUE FLORAL DESIGNS for your SPECIAL OCCASION
Banners and monograms Banners, banner flags, and monograms have emerged in the last few years as popular toppers. These pieces are often the couple’s initials, names, or a favorite loving word or phrase. They are constructed of paper, wood, plastic, glass, or metal. Letters and words can also be made from edible ingredients, such as chocolate, sugar, or ice. Banners can be purchased stock, ordered custom, or can be homemade if you are the artsy kind. Etsy and eBay are good places to source banners and lettering. Animals Animal toppers have become increasingly popular over the past several years. Lovebirds are an obvious choice, but don’t overlook local options. Moose, bison, elk, or even bears will fit in at any Teton wedding.

Themed toppers If you have a wedding theme, make sure it carries over onto the cake. Whether it’s a Teton getaway or a western hoedown, toppers exist or can be special ordered to fit your theme. Met while on a ski trip at Grand Targhee? Place figurines skiing through your frosting. Miniature cowboy and cowgirl boots can match the ones that you wear down the aisle. You can even have a likeness of the Tetons made of wood, metal, or glass to place on top of and around your desserts. Whether you purchase a stock piece, have one custom designed, or make it yourself, cake toppers add a unique element to any wedding. Figurines, banners, monograms, animals, flowers, and themed toppers are just a few of the ways to express your togetherness. Like the baker’s daughter, you and your betrothed can have a symbol of love and unity at the center of your wedding for all to see and enjoy. ° — Mel Paradis, a native of Chicago, now lives in Tetonia, Idaho, with her husband, daughter, and dog. While the days of romantic and spontaneous dash-away-from-theeveryday-to-marry-in-secret are making a comeback, the contemporary elopement is taking on a number of traditional-wedding aspects to create perfectly customized nuptials. An intimate wedding for two can include elaborate bridal bouquets; professional hair, makeup, and photography; private-car service; live music; catered-meal service; and just about anything else on a couple’s wish list. Jackson has no lack of amazing options for lodging, ceremony locations, intimate dinners, and everything in between. Although planning an elopement may seem a bit counterintuitive, many modern couples seek the assistance of a location-based planner to create the intimate experience of their dreams. The inherent
34
nature of a small wedding or elopement is that it is personal and unique—a step away from the boundaries of traditional wedding ideas. This means that your wedding has the potential to be anything, and everything, you’ve ever dreamed of. Roni & Matt Roni and Matt are from Chicago, but they knew that they wanted anything but the big-city ballroom wedding. They decided that a winter wedding in Jackson was the perfect fit for them. They invited only their immediate family members, knowing that their wedding celebration would be like nothing any of them had ever experienced. Roni’s family is from Mexico, while Matt’s family is from Hawaii, so the beauty of the Jackson winter was truly exotic. On a sunny afternoon just a few days before Christmas, the couple and their families met at the Granite Canyon trailhead, just inside the southern boundary of Grand Teton National Park. They circled around the couple as they wed in a snowy sagebrush clearing framed by a pair of wooden snowshoes. Each family brought a cultural tradition to the ceremony; Roni’s family tied the couple’s hands with a beaded lasso, and Matt’s wrapped them in a fresh Maile lei (which had been transported with care from Hawaii). After the ceremony, the now-united family headed downtown for a private dinner at a restaurant on Town Square. As the evening progressed, snow began to fall. After dinner, they headed back to Teton Village to wrap up the night with hot drinks and s’mores around a bonfire in the softly falling snow.

Elopement-style nuptials remind us that a wedding is an intimate union about two people in love. The scale of the celebration is insignificant in comparison to the union it creates. And, the Tetons certainly provide a worthy setting for these lovely moments, which represent intimacy and commitment at their finest. ° — Virginia Powell Symons owns and operates Vibrant Events of Jackson Hole, a wedding planning and consulting company that is focused on creating truly unique and creative weddings, showcasing everything that Jackson Hole and Teton Valley has to offer. visit. Shortly thereafter, Jesse moved back East, and they began planning an intimate wedding that would include Evan, Megan’s son. Jesse had good friends in Jackson and knew that it would be the perfect place for them to start their life as a family. Megan, Evan, and Jesse planned a road trip out West that would take them through a number of national parks, finally landing them in Jackson for some time with old friends and an intimate wedding at the base of the Tetons. They invited only Jesse’s two best friends from childhood, who together performed a ceremony that not only bound the two of them in marriage, but bound the three of them as a family. They exchanged vows on the shores of Jackson Lake on a beautiful evening in August. After the ceremony, they had dinner under bistro lights in a friend’s backyard. A multicourse meal was prepared at the home by a private chef, and they cut a personal-size wedding cake by the light of a bonfire.
Amy & Mark
Amy & Mark This destination couple who hail from Montana knew that they wanted to wed where they first met—in Jackson. They planned a private wedding for two at the Moose Head Ranch in Grand Teton National Park, followed by a reception celebration in Rhode Island, where Amy is from, a few months later. After dressing in a rustic cabin overlooking a trout pond, Amy and Mark strolled hand in hand down the gravel roads of the ranch to their wedding ceremony location, a bridge spanning a spring creek. A local pastor performed the intimate nuptials. Afterwards, Amy and Mark drank champagne and nibbled on light hors d’oeuvres as they took photos in the waning September light. Then, they sat for dinner at a table set for two under the twilight Tetons. A private chef created a delicious multicourse meal, served in the most intimate of settings. As the sun dropped 38

A TREASURED KEEPSAKE Preserving your wedding dress
Y
By Rebecca Mitchell
ou spent hours trying on countless gowns before finding the dress for your big day. Now that your wedding is over, what should you do with likely the most expensive piece of clothing you’ve ever bought? Some brides hang up their dresses in their closets to serve as a reminder of their recent nuptials. Others put their dresses back in their garment bags with good intentions of cleaning and preserving them sometime soon. And, there are some fortunate brides who don’t have to think about any maintenance details; their mothers, wedding planners, or friends scoop up their dresses and arrange for cleaning and storage without any input from the bride. Whether a wedding dress is a vintage hand-me-down or a brand-new gown by a famous designer, planning for proper cleaning and preservation will ensure it remains a treasured keepsake for generations to come.
Wedding Gown Cleaning, Pressing and Preservation Wedding Party and Guest Attire Cleaning and Pressing
Some advice from wedding-dress experts: DON’T DELAY. Have your wedding dress cleaned and preserved as soon after your wedding day as possible. Why the rush? Stains left untreated can damage the gown’s fabric. Sugar spots—from soda, wine, or cake spills—can dry without leaving a noticeable mark, but will caramelize and turn brown over time without proper handling. Salt from perspiration can cause a dress’ lining to eventually become brittle. Most dry-cleaning solutions do not remove sugar or salt without pretreatment. Be sure to review the condition of your dress with your dry-cleaning professional.

LOOK FOR EXPERIENCE. One of the best ways to locate a reputable wedding-dress cleaning and preservation professional is to ask the staff at your bridal shop (ask more than one, if possible). Bridal shops frequently send gowns out for cleaning and pressing, so their recommendations are often very useful. Couple this referral with whatever research you can do on your own. Make sure the professional specializes in wedding-dress cleaning and preservation regardless of whether they perform the work on the premises or send it off to a wholesale cleaner. Find out what types of cleaning methods are used and make sure they correspond with the care label in your dress. Some fabric and detail work, like sequins and beads, require special cleaning. For instance, perchloroethylene—a commonly used dry-cleaning solvent—can damage sequins, beads, and the glue used to adhere them to the fabric. Find out if fresh solvents will be used to clean your dress. This is a must; dirty solvents can transfer impurities during the cleaning process, leaving your dress smelling chemical-like. DECIDE SEAL, BOX, OR BAG. Once your dress has been professionally cleaned, decide which preservation method best suits your needs. Three main types of preservation— sealing, boxing, and bagging—employ a variety of methods to help protect your dress from oxidation spots, yellowing, mold and mildew, light, dust, and permanent creasing. Sealing involves packaging a gown using acid-free tissue sealed tight in an acid-free box. However, this method 42
does not allow for future inspection (to catch any oxidation, yellowing, or creasing issues); can cause permanent creasing (since the dress cannot be refolded every few years); and increases the chances of mildew (since the dress cannot breathe). Boxing is similar to sealing except the box is not sealed, which allows for inspection, future refolding, and air circulation. Both of these methods appeal to brides with either a very large dress or a very small closet. Bagging employs a technique used by museums to preserve historical clothing. The dress is hung on a padded hanger and enclosed in a 100% acid-free cotton bag. It remains unfolded, so permanent creasing is avoided. Bagged dresses are easy to inspect and need very little, if any, maintenance. The only drawback is that a bagged dress can take up a fair amount of storage space. When shopping around for your preservation professional, be leery of a service that discourages you from inspecting your dress once it is preserved. Read the service guarantee carefully. Don’t assume that even if a company offers a warranty against discoloration or damage that you will be reimbursed for a new dress. Regardless of which preservation method you choose, avoid using a plastic garment bag for your dress, as plastic fumes can cause the garment to yellow, and never store your dress in an attic or basement. Even well-preserved dresses require a space with minimal temperature and humiditylevel changes. °

Finding your perfect venue By Lindsey Nickel
so calculate your best guess. The capacity of some venues maxes out at fifty people, while other venues would feel way too large for that number and are more suitable for 120-plus guests. With a rough estimate of your budget and guest count, you will be able to quickly assess if a venue is a potential match.
3
Decide Do you want your ceremony and reception in the same place? If you pick a ceremony location separate from your reception, you will want to consider transportation options for your guests to safely and easily arrive at both locations. When looking for a venue with a ceremony site on the premises, be sure to ask if there is an additional fee for using the site.
C
hoosing a location and date for your wedding are typically the first two steps in the wedding-planning process. Many couples have a vision of the venue and season right away. Whether that vision is a ranch in July, an elegant ballroom in spring, an aspen grove in fall, or slopeside in the winter, the venue sets the tone and style of the wedding. When selecting a venue, the most important considerations are budget, capacity, ceremony location, date availability, and indoor/outdoor options. The initial search for a venue can be daunting and overwhelming. Venues offer a variety of information in varying formats, which makes it challenging to compare them all. However, with some due diligence, you can find the perfect place for your wedding.
1
Research Start by browsing wedding magazines, websites, and blogs to see what catches your eye. Enlisting the help of a wedding planner can be very valuable since he or she is familiar with many local venues and can make recommendations for ones that fit your style, vision, and budget.
2
Estimate Begin to estimate your wedding budget, which will include a line item for the venue. This is important because the venue is typically a significant portion of your wedding expenditures. The number of guests will affect your selection, 44
4
Coordinate In the Jackson Hole area, venues can be grouped into two categories: ones that need a tent David Stubbs and ones that do not. Venues that need a tent are primarily ranches, where the reception location is a field with stunning views of the Tetons. Typically, very few other amenities, such as bathrooms, are included. This means you need to coordinate a tent rental, bring in bathrooms, and rent a dance floor and more to build your event site. The venues that do not need a tent provide a structure for you, such as an existing tent, private dining room, or hotel ballroom. Venues that provide the structure tend to have an inhouse caterer and kitchen, bathrooms, a parking lot, and dining items. Each venue is unique, so be sure to ask what is included in the rental fee.
5 6
Bend Flexibility with your wedding date will provide more options. Venues book out as far as eighteen months. If you can be flexible with a specific date, you will have more choices. Many guests make their trip to the Tetons a vacation, so you might consider a weekday date, which some venues might discount. Contact Start contacting your favorite places to learn more about what they offer and at what price. If possible, schedule a site visit of your top three to five locations; this will prove very helpful in making a final decision. Be sure to make appointments to tour the entire venue site and meet with the person who would be your contact during the planning phase. Don’t forget

to take photos so you can remember all the details. If you will not be visiting the venues prior to booking, ask if there are any recent wedding photos that you can see. Either way, be sure to ask all your questions before booking. To help organize all the venues’ information and compare options, be sure to ask the same questions, take notes, and use the Venue Worksheet (on jacksonholewedding.com). Choosing a venue is undoubtedly one of the largest decisions when planning a wedding—once you pick one, all of the other planning pieces will fall into place. From an intimate dinner at a favorite restaurant to a tent on a picturesque ranch, the Jackson Hole area offers a size, price, and season for every wedding style. ° — Lindsey Nickel is a professional wedding planner and owner/ founder of Lovely Day Events, a boutique wedding-planning company that specializes in “day-of” and partial planning for local and destination couples. onsider an “unplugged wedding” These days, nearly everyone who attends a wedding has a smartphone camera or compact camera at the ready to capture memorable moments. While this can be a great way to see the event through numerous “eyes,” it can backfire when a guest inadvertently jumps in front of the professional photographer to capture a candid moment. Oftentimes, photos include guest faces hidden behind the backs of cameras and smartphones. Not to mention intimate photos, like “first look,” captured by well-intentioned guests ending up on social media sites prior to the couple’s viewing. Consider asking your guests to refrain from using their cameras—entirely or at certain times. You can include this request in your invitation mailing or ask your officiant to make a heartfelt announcement at the beginning of the ceremony.
you designate) about continuing the service—if you want to spend more money than originally budgeted. Create a unique hashtag to share your photos If you don’t mind your guests snapping photos with their phones, document your special day by creating a unique hashtag and sharing it with your guests. Tech-savvy guests can upload images using your custom hashtag for followers to view. Be sure to make your hashtag easy to remember and original!

I DOS AND DON’TS Ideas and advice By Rebecca Mitchell
Reduce the time spent taking photos after your ceremony Set up a bridal photo shoot prior to the wedding. It will serve as a dry run for the bride—her hair, makeup, dress, and shoes can be tested prior to the big day. Ask the photographer to suggest a location that has good lighting and will complement the bride’s look. Consider the children If you plan to have children attend your wedding reception, organize a children’s buffet complete with kid-friendly food, drink, and desserts. Plus, have some tabletop activities like coloring books and small puzzles for them. Your young guests will love the special treatment, and parents will appreciate your efforts. Host a hometown party If you are having a destination wedding, consider hosting a reception in your hometown for family and friends who cannot attend. It’s a great way to include as many people as possible in your celebration. Don’t let your liquor bill surprise you Ask the caterer to stop serving liquor once your budget limit is reached. Request that your caterer check with you (or someone 46
Ask about restrictions at your venues Check with staff at your ceremony and reception locations to find out about any restrictions or regulations on flowers or other decorations. Use of candles or open flames is often non-negotiable.
Learn something new Take dance lessons with your soon-to-be spouse and learn a choreographed number for your first dance. It will likely surprise and delight your guests, and be a fun prewedding activity for you and your partner! Ask for a midnight snack As the bride and groom, you will be very busy socializing at your wedding reception and may not get much to eat. Ask your caterer to prepare a special box of reception food that you can enjoy later. Personalize it Look for inspiring ways to make your wedding reflect you as a couple. Consider creating a wedding brand—a meaningful image or monogram—that can tie together your wedding elements. Weave it into your decor or “stamp it” on your paper goods. From wedding invitations and ceremony signage to dinner place cards and custom thank-you notes, your options for uniqueness are endless. Capture the spontaneity Rent a photo booth for your reception and watch your guests flock to snap shots of funny expressions, endearing embraces, and silly disguises. Provide some creative props, and let your guests have fun! Typical rentals include photostrips for guests and a CD of the night’s images for you.

Stay organized Throughout the planning process, you will discuss many details with your vendors, friends, and family members. Keep track of the information in a notebook or binder. Use or create tabs to organize it by sections so you can easily find what you need when you need it. Make it a size that’s easy to transport, as it will likely not leave your side until after the wedding. Tap your friends & family Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your friends and family. Match their skillsets with your needs, and watch your to-do list shrink! Remember: these people love you and want to participate in your big day. Plus, it will reduce your stress to delegate tasks and know they will be completed well. °

THE NAME-CHANGE GAME Steps to make it official
A
By Rebecca Mitchell
fter months of focused planning, your wedding day was a great success. From ceremony to reception, your attention to detail paid off, and your day passed as a remarkably memorable event. Ahh ... you can finally exhale. But wait! You’ve decided to change your name, which means you have one last hurdle to overcome before you can kick up your feet and reflect on your new life as part of a married couple. Knowing when and how to change your name can save you time and headaches. Begin the name-changing process after you are married. While you may want to get a jump-start on what can be a lengthy course of action, starting before you are officially married is a waste of time. According to Leah Ingram, author of Plan Your Wedding In No Time, the best advice for accomplishing the name-changing process smoothly is this: tackle the most important entities first, and then work your way down the list. Once you are legally wed, obtain at least two certified copies of your marriage certificate, and make several noncertified copies, too.
STEP 1 48
The most important item to change is your Social Security card. Do this first, as you will need your new card to change other forms of identification and open a bank account using your new name. Plus, roughly ten days after the records at the Social Security Administration are changed, your Internal Revenue Service records will be updated. According to the Social Security Administration, failure to report a name change to them can delay future tax refunds and jeopardize your wages from being correctly reported, which may lower your future Social Security benefits. To change your name on your Social Security card, you will need to complete Form SS-5 and submit it, along with proof of your U.S. citizenship, identity, and legal name change. You must submit original copies of documents like your birth certificate, passport, and/or driver’s license. While this can be unnerving, and although instances of lost items have no doubt occurred, in my case I received my original documents back from two different governmental agencies with no problems. To obtain Form SS-5 and get further details on acceptable proof documents, visit http://socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.html or call toll-free 800-772-1213.

certificate, one recent color photograph (2-inch-by-2-inch), your current valid passport, and any required fees must be mailed to a processing facility, the address of which is found at the above-referenced website. The normal turnaround time is ten to twelve weeks, but if you need to receive your passport sooner, you can pay an additional $60 per application, plus delivery costs, to have it expedited. This reduces the turnaround time to two to three weeks. If you are employed and have company benefits, such as health insurance or a retirement account, you’ll need to update those plans with your new name and any new dependents and/or beneficiaries. These tasks can likely be completed by your company’s human resources or accounting personnel.
STEP 5
The remainder of your list should include personal accounts like credit cards, banks, mortgages, investments, insurances, utilities, and personal memberships. Be sure to update your will and other legal documents, medical records, and voter registration. And let the post office know your new name, so mail can be correctly sorted. It’s also a good idea to contact the credit bureaus to make sure they are reporting your new name. Typically, the credit bureaus track people by Social Security number, so the change should take effect automatically, but it never hurts to double-check when it comes to your credit history. From personal experience, I know that each entity has its own name-changing Hannah Hardaway policy, which can include fees to process. Some require a written request with proof of name change, while others allow you to make changes on the back of a current statement. For those that require written notification, I suggest you use the name-changing form letter provided online at jacksonholewedding.com. Personalize it by entering your specifics in the red areas and have several copies on hand for quick name-change requests. If the name-changing challenge sounds too daunting for you to handle on your own, numerous name-changing services and kits are available—you can find them by performing an online search. ° — Local Information — The Wyoming Department of Motor Vehicles, located at 1040 Evans Road in Jackson, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; closed noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. The phone number is 307/733-4571. Call for a list of required proof documents.
STEP 6
Next on your list is updating your driver’s license, which requires a visit to your state’s department of motor vehicles. Bring a certified copy of your marriage certificate and your current driver’s license. You will likely have to pay a fee for your new license, so ask if it’s cheaper (and acceptable) to pay a “duplicate” fee as opposed to a new license fee. And while you’re there, update your vehicle registration with your new name.
STEP 3
Now that you have an updated Social Security card and driver’s license, it is a good time to update your passport. Be sure to complete this prior to any international travel, as having a passport in one name and a driver’s license in another can cause you problems abroad. There are two different processes for updating your passport with a name change—one for name changes occurring within one year of passport issuance, and another for name changes occurring more than one year from the issuance date. Each situation requires a unique application form (either DS-5504 or DS-82), both of which can be obtained online at http://travel. state.gov/passport. The completed form, a certified copy of your marriage

hile hosting a wedding on either side of the Tetons guarantees a beautiful backdrop, this area is infamous for its unpredictable weather. Weather conditions differ around our mountain valleys and peaks, and temperatures can vary by 10 degrees or more from one place to another. Summer continues to be the most popular season for weddings. If you are considering a wedding in the Tetons during June, July, August, or September, keep in mind that millions of visitors pass through the area during these months, which translates to full hotels, busy restaurants and caterers, and fewer available wedding and reception sites. Although the weather is less predictable, spring, fall, and winter weddings in the Tetons offer natural beauty equal to a summer wedding but with the advantages of fewer tourists, more vendor availability, and sometimes lower prices. Regardless of the wedding date you choose, be sure your location can accommodate your needs given the inclement weather. 째

Jackson or Bust — CLEO & IAN —
I
By Cleo Miller Photography by Jamye Chrisman
’ve been visiting Jackson since I was a little kid. My dad is an anthropologist, and each summer, I’d tag along as he did his fieldwork in Wyoming. Passionate about the outdoors, Ian visited the Tetons on a backpacking trip in college. Ian and I met on the high school debate team in our hometown of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. After graduating from 56
Wake Forest University, we took a road trip out West to celebrate. We fell in love with Jackson all over again! Once engaged, there was no question about where we’d host the wedding—it was Jackson or bust! We wanted to mimic the feeling of a larger family reunion: fun times, great activities, good food, and wonderful friends.

The evening before our nuptials, everyone met for a casual welcome dinner at Pizzeria Caldera. After the delicious thin-crust pizza and thirst-quenching beer, we indulged in Moo’s Gourmet Ice Cream while strolling around Town Square. The event was the perfect way to kick off our wedding weekend. We held our wedding festivities at Jackson Lake Lodge, an easy choice, as I saw a bride there during one of my childhood visits and always hoped to have my wedding in its beautiful setting. The lodge’s location put our celebration smack-dab in the middle of one of the area’s best views. Sweet, clear late-June skies smiled on the day. My Aunt Edie officiated the ceremony, which was held on the large, expansive lawn with sweeping views of the mountains. A beautiful floral arch, music by Judd Grossman, and an enthusiastic flower girl made the ceremony extra special. We celebrated our vows with a cocktail hour of huckleberry mojitos in the Mural Room at Jackson Lake Lodge. After enjoying a delicious sit-down dinner, touching toasts, and a

wildflower-covered cake, the group headed over to the pool. Lawn games, Polaroid cameras with props, and live western music provided upbeat entertainment for our guests. As the evening came to a close, s’mores drew everyone around a warm bonfire to share in a joyous evening of celebration. Guests took home personalized chocolates from Atelier Ortega. A vibrant Teton sunset sent us on our way and completed the memorable night. We remain very thankful for all the help from our wonderful vendors and supportive family and friends. A Reason to Visit Jackson Hole — KELLI & WILL —

ill and I met the old-fashioned way—a blind date set up by a mutual acquaintance. We discovered that, despite my Midwestern roots and Will’s Northeastern upbringing, we had lived within only a few miles of each other for six of the past twelve years. It’s funny how life waits until just the right time to bring two people together. Will brings out the hidden adventurer in me, while I help him slow down and enjoy the ride. Case in point: our first visit to Jackson Hole. It was Labor Day weekend 2014, and Will and I followed an impulse and flew from our home in Chicago to the valley for the holiday. That weekend, I hiked my first 10,000-foot mountain with Will cheering (and sometimes pulling) me along. About one-quarter of the way into the hike, Will looked over at me and knew I was the one he wanted to marry. It was only fitting that we return to Jackson Hole in March for him to propose. But, through a long series of
60
unfortunate mishaps, the ring didn’t make it to Jackson with us, so the plan had to be delayed. Two weeks later, at home in Chicago, he gathered countless pictures from our times on Rendezvous Mountain and hung them all around our house to re-create the experience for me. He even served waffles to really get the feel of Corbet’s Cabin! After I said, “Yes,” we knew we had to return to Teton Village to get married in our favorite place on Earth. And, in order to make it before the cold arrived, we had to plan fast! Thanks to the remarkable vendors in Jackson Hole, five months was more than enough time to plan. We worked with John Thomas and his team at Hotel Terra to set up the “Welcome” cocktail hour, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and brunch right in the Village so our guests were within walking distance of everything. Somehow, we were lucky enough to book Floral Art, Jackson Cake Company, and two amazing musical acts despite our short timeline. And, to

make sure everything ran smoothly and we could just sit back and enjoy our big day, we enlisted Lovely Day Events. Unfortunately, our engagement wasn’t as enchanted as I always pictured it would be. In May and again in July, we received sad news of deaths in the family. These tough times made Will and I appreciate each other even more. While we needed to dedicate our attention to family during such difficult periods, John Thomas and Ayla Allen at Hotel Terra helped keep the planning moving along. I simply don’t have words to articulate how amazing our “team” was.

Our guests still rave about the food (provided by Hotel Terra); the bison prime rib was the star of the entire weekend. Wine from Jackson Hole Winery was available for our guests throughout the weekend (and in their welcome bags). Jackson Cake Company created the most innovative pistachio cake stackers with huckleberry filling, not to mention a stunning gold groom’s cake with a depiction of the Tetons. The one thing we wanted most from our wedding weekend—besides, of course, committing to each other for life—was to help our guests understand exactly why Jackson Hole is so dear to our hearts. It’s because of the warm people, the truly exceptional food and wine, and the breathtaking scenery. Our loved ones continue to thank us for giving them a reason to visit the Tetons. °

aron is a hometown boy who was born and raised in Jackson. He skied for the Jackson Hole Ski Club and graduated from Jackson High School. He moved to Denver for college; he skied for and graduated from the University of Denver. I was born and raised in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. My love for the mountains (and snow!) brought me to the University of Denver four years after Aaron. Aaron and I were introduced by mutual friends after we both graduated from college, and we have been

It was a very special time, as both of our families were there to join in the celebration. When it came time to choose a wedding location, the Tetons were calling our names. We visited a few venues, but nothing compared to the breathtaking views and gorgeous facilities at Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club. Planning our wedding from afar had its

challenges, but with the help of our wedding planner, Kathi Michel of Special Events Jackson Hole, things went very smoothly. With many of our guests coming from out of state to the valley for the first time, we planned several prewedding activities. We had a bus tour of the national parks with a wonderful local guide, a fly-fishing excursion, a float trip on the Snake River, and a golf scramble. Many of our guests took advantage of the amazing 80-degree weather to enjoy some area hikes. Our rehearsal dinner was on Thursday night at The Granary Restaurant, where the views and food were unbelievable. We held a private party Friday night at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, complete with a line-dance instructor. Our wedding day could not have been more perfect. Guests were greeted with huckleberry margaritas and lemonade upon their ceremony arrival. Everyone was abuzz with the beauty of the setting (including the bees, which found the huckleberry margaritas and the flowers much too inviting!). After the ceremony, there was a cocktail hour—where guests

We did not want a traditional wedding cake, so Monica from Jackson Cake Company made a beautiful assortment of cupcakes and macarons along with a cutting cake, all of which was displayed on a beautiful, rustic three-tiered cake stand that had our initials carved into it. Perfect Timing — NIAL & SEAN —
O
By Nial Overbay Scarlett Photography by Ashley Wilkerson
n Christmas morning of 2012, I answered my sister’s front door in Chicago to find Sean on one knee with a ring in his hand asking me to marry him. I was shocked and thrilled because I was led to believe that we would be spending Christmas apart since Sean had to work at home in Jackson. We had been dating for five and a half years, and I was ecstatic to begin planning our dream wedding. Without a doubt, I wanted to have our ceremony at the Chapel of the Transfiguration in Grand Teton National Park. I’d fallen in love with the place years earlier, and I knew that with its beauty and charm, it
68
would be the perfect spot for our friends and family members to witness our nuptials. As Sean and I began the planning process, we quickly became overwhelmed and felt like we were getting too far away from what the wedding was supposed to be about—us. We knew we wanted a “no-stress” wedding, and we were not headed in that direction. We got frustrated with the process, our lives got busy, and wedding planning took a backseat. We bought property, built a house, and had a beautiful baby boy. Things were going along just great. Years went by, life happened, and we began to consider ourselves married.

Fast forward to March 2015. Our son had just had his first birthday, and Sean and I couldn’t believe the whirlwind of emotions we were going through—in a good way. We felt full of joy, gratitude, and fulfillment for our little family. It was the perfect time to finally make our marriage official. This goaround, we quickly agreed to keep things as simple as possible.

Once we committed to simplicity, everything fell into place naturally. Planning our wedding went from an overwhelming task to a fun, intimate, and exciting process. Including immediate family and our son in the wedding day was a must for us, and we prepared our guest list of twelve adults and six kids. The Chapel of the Transfiguration was the perfect place for our small, intimate mountain wedding. And the views from the chapel were hard to beat. When the day arrived, we were stress-free and giddy with excitement. To add to the intimacy of our nuptials, we exchanged love letters instead of gifts before the ceremony, which was one of my favorite parts of the day. With our son between us, we exchanged vows. I had dreamt about this wedding for so long; I was elated. After the service, we went to Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club for celebratory drinks and dinner. Having all of our guests seated at one table was another small-wedding detail that I loved. It was a blissful and satisfying day. After eight years together, two and a half years of engagement, and one son, we were officially a family. 째

espite living in Houston, Dusty and I wanted a mountain wedding. I suggested Jackson Hole as the perfect place to gather our families and celebrate our marriage. Once we settled on the destination, we started looking for a venue that felt intimate but could accommodate all of our family members in one place. We found just that place: Moose Creek Ranch in Teton Valley, Idaho, just over Teton Pass from Jackson. We reserved the ranch for the weekend and organized a bunch of activities for our guests, including on-site horseback riding, whitewater rafting, and a golf outing. Planning our destination wedding proved to be challenging, so I enlisted the help of Lovely Day Events to make sure that everything went smoothly. In preparation, I searched online and reviewed A Grand Wedding to find vendor suggestions. I booked everything sight-unseen and food-untasted, and I loved every decision I made, as the food, music, and flowers were all better than I could have imagined.

When it came to wedding decor, Dusty and I knew we wanted to focus on our love of nature. The rustic, woodsy feel of Moose Creek Ranch and the classic-looking barn helped us bring our vision to life. I used antlers, large wooden slabs, wild moss, green mason jars filled with wildflowers, and burlap table runners to decorate. The ceremony took place in a sagebrush field with the mountains as our backdrop and sixty of our closest friends and family members as our witnesses. After the ceremony, Judd Grossman played background music while guests snacked on
stuffed mushrooms, lemon-dill chicken skewers, and fried pickles, and quenched their thirst with refreshing sweet tea and lemonade. For dinner, we enjoyed seared trout and flank steak along with side dishes that are favorites of ours—French green beans and macaroni and cheese. Our guests indulged in a variety of treats from our dessert bar, including red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, candied pecan pies, cupcakes, and root beer floats. To cap off an unbelievable night, Judd serenaded us with “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison. Before long, our wedding guests joined in; it was a moment that neither of us will soon forget. °

evin and I met during our third year at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Our first conversation was brief and in passing, but it sparked a curiosity that I couldn’t resist. A few weeks later, I finagled a way for Kevin to be my “almost-blind date” to a formal event at our college. We hit it off right away. The next thing we knew, we were traveling Europe together and enjoying amazing adventures. We’ve traveled to some incredible locations, shared delicious meals, and created countless memories we’ll cherish forever. We’ve mastered the key to moving successfully by practicing four times over the last four years. We know that our entire life can fit into one small U-Haul because we don’t need a lot of material things. We just need each other, and everything else is simply a bonus. Since Kevin and I are both from the East Coast, many of our friends and family were shocked when we announced Wyoming as the destination for our wedding. However, Jackson made perfect sense to us. While we love Boston’s city life, we very much enjoy our outside adventures. We love spending our free time skiing, hiking, and traveling. We realized early on in our planning that while we love Boston, it just simply wasn’t the right location for our wedding. We wanted an intimate gathering—small enough that we could talk to each guest but large enough to fill a dance floor. We wanted our wedding to reflect our personalities, and that is exactly the type of freedom

A Weekend to Remember — KATE & TRAVIS —
By Kate Sherman Roth Photography by Bradly J. Boner

ravis and I met through a mutual friend during graduate school at Oregon State University. Sharing a love for the outdoors, we spent the first few months together hiking, visiting hot springs, and skiing in Oregon. For New Year’s 2012, we gathered our friends for a weekend celebration in Teton Valley, Idaho, at Travis’ family’s cabin called ThistleDew. We had an amazing weekend of skiing, good food, and plenty of laughs. A few years later, after Travis and I spent nearly a year traveling throughout Southeast Asia—an adventure of a lifetime—we came back to Teton Valley to unwind and renew our appreciation for America’s beauty. One night, on a stroll around the property, Travis proposed to me. Within minutes, we knew we wanted to host our wedding at ThistleDew because it had become a special place for us. Planning our wedding was a team effort that united our families. We organized everything ourselves and used local Idaho and Wyoming vendors. After spending more than two months in India, where wedding celebrations can last up to a week, we were inspired to have an extended wedding weekend. Activities ran from Thursday to Sunday, with more than

150 people attending throughout the weekend. Nearly half of our wedding guests wanted to camp on the ThistleDew property, so we organized tents, a camp kitchen, and portable toilets from a local vendor. Other guests stayed at local cabins and hotels throughout Driggs and Tetonia. On Thursday night, we hosted a barbecue at a group campground site in Teton Canyon, which was a great way to kick off our weekend of activities. On Friday morning, we organized a float trip down the Teton River on rafts from Jackson Hole Whitewater for more than one hundred guests. After a memorable day on the river, our guests attended a pit-roasted pig cookout hosted by Travis’ parents, Don and Leslie Roth. Don prepared the pig by constructing an underground roasting pit, and our guests raved about it. Saturday—the wedding day—went by in a flash; our guests enjoyed hiking and other local activities prior to our ceremony.

Our friends and family members helped set up tables and chairs, arrange table settings, and decorate. I designed the table settings and layout, including candles, burlap and lace table runners, recycled wine bottles for water carafes, and mason jars for the drinks. I love succulents, so our florist—The Flower Market at MD Nursery—put together beautiful centerpieces using them, along with river rocks and moss. My mother enlisted The Basque Market to prepare paella for dinner. The same paella was served at my brother’s rehearsal dinner in Boise, Idaho, and we thought it was so delicious that we decided to serve it to our 150-plus guests. Other than The Basque Market paella—prepared and served on-site—everything else was served buffet-style. Brad Boner, a local photographer, snapped photographs from noon until midnight, capturing a candid collection of memories from the celebration. I will never forget Travis and I watching the moon set over ThistleDew before walking to the teepee, which served as our wedding suite. On Sunday morning, my dad and stepmother organized a brunch at ThistleDew catered by Three Peaks Dinner Table in Driggs. We offered bloody marys, mimosas, eggs, and cinnamon rolls to fuel everyone after the spectacularly fun night. It was a great way to end an amazing weekend. °

Better Than Perfect — BREE & MARK —
I
By Mark Westfall Photography by Taylor Glenn
met Bree at a college party. She charmed me with her stories of the Jackson area, especially her ascent of “the Grand.” I joke that it was love at first climbing story. In reality, though, it wasn’t until three years later—when Bree moved to Denver—that we started dating. In Colorado, we bonded over our shared love of the mountains, laughed ourselves senseless with our quirky wits, and learned that we wanted the same things from life. It was love. Six years later, we moved to Spokane, Washington, where we currently live. Bree is a retail manager, which means she often works over the holidays. However, last Christmas she was able to take vacation time. We had six whole days to enjoy the holiday together with her family in Jackson, so we were anxious to get a move on it! At 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, we started driving toward the Tetons. Twelve hours later (4 a.m.), we arrived at her parents’ house, just in time for Christmas morning with the Warners. I was extra excited about this trip because I planned to propose to Bree while backcountry skiing in Grand Teton National Park. I had six days to pop the question; I just needed the weather to cooperate. The high temperature during the first five days of our stay was 10 degrees below zero. Weather forecasters predicted New Year’s Eve day to be 23 degrees with blue skies and sunshine. With avalanche conditions forecasted as stable, we planned to ski 25 Short, a local favorite for intermediate to advanced backcountry skiers.

I barely slept the night prior, but when the alarm went off at 7 a.m., I jumped out of bed for a temperature check. It was minus 22! I was afraid I might have to go with “Plan B,” which I hadn’t formulated. We decided to sleep a couple more hours in hopes that the temperatures would rise. At 9 a.m., it was a balmy 12 below. Bree was a great sport, and we decided to give it a try. An hour later, we donned skis, skins, and warm clothes and left the parking lot toward the Tetons. It was actually pretty warm in the sun as we crossed the flats to the hill. Once we hit the canyon, dropped into the shadow of the mountain, and started to climb, the temperature seemed to plunge 40 degrees. After climbing for more than an hour, we reached the ridgeline. Since it was getting late in the day, we decided to make that our turnaround point. Without a cloud in the sky, the Grand to our right, and the Jackson valley behind us, it was the perfect place to drop down on one knee and ask the most beautiful woman in the world to marry me. As I cracked open the ring box, I realized the box was upside down, and the ring slipped halfway out before catching on the cushion. Good thing I didn’t have to add a ring search in deep powder to my already frayed nerves. And, thankfully, Bree said, “Yes!” We descended in knee-deep powder and chased the shadow of the Grand all the way back to the parking lot, where the truck thermometer still read 12 degrees below zero. I popped open a few single-serve champagne bottles and poured the bubbly into plastic flutes to toast the occasion. As we drank our champagne, we watched the last bit of daylight fade behind the Tetons. Six months later, after a surprisingly lowstress planning blitz, we gathered our very closest family and friends at Dornan’s in Grand Teton National Park. It was a small group, which was how we wanted it. My sister-inlaw, Heather, was our officiant, and she did an extraordinary job capturing our individual 86

personalities, quirkiness, and the essence of our wonderfully fun relationship. Bree walked down the aisle to Ellie Goulding’s “How Long Will I Love You,” and we danced our first dance to James Blunt’s “Bonfire Heart.” Originally, we planned to dance slowly for the whole song, but the energy of the evening got the best of us, and we danced as we normally did—matching the beat with dips, twirls, and smiles so broad our cheeks hurt. As the sun dropped behind the Tetons, with our amazing community surrounding us with love and laughter, I realized that our wedding had become better than perfect; it was an extension of who we are as people and as a couple. It was wholly and completely “us.” ° 88

en and I have many things in common, but a love of nature and the desire to create are among our most treasured shared interests. The outdoors have always been a common thread in our story. From camping trips and hiking, to a proposal under the California redwoods, and treks to Ben’s hometown of Jackson, we make it a priority to push pause on our busy Southern California lifestyle and appreciate the natural world. The minute I said, “Yes,” we both 90
knew Jackson was the place to start our forever adventure. With all but about ten guests traveling from out of state, it was important to Ben and me that everyone felt at home. The Bentwood Inn immediately stood out as the perfect venue to not only accommodate some family, friends, and wedding-party members, but also host our quaint backyard ceremony and reception with sixtyfive guests. The cottonwood-lined backyard was

cozy and just as welcoming as Bentwood’s innkeepers, Virginia and Bob, who made us feel well cared for from the planning process through the big day. The Bentwood Inn fit our antique, rustic-chic vision perfectly, and since it was already impressive by default, all Ben and I were left to do was focus on enhancements. We spent months trolling used bookstores and library sales in search of the perfect collection of books to incorporate in centerpieces, around the bar, and on the dessert and welcome tables. Trips to countless thrift and antique stores led us to fun knickknacks we paired with items from our home to decorate the reception area. When we weren’t sifting through decorations, we were busy building and crafting our own—from an adorable
bunting my mom made; to the wooden boxes, table numbers, and crates that Ben built and stained; to the hand-painted signs, fabric backdrops, and embroidered handkerchiefs I created. Everything was our handmade creation. That theme carried through to the wedding flowers, which I designed and arranged. With a little help from the lovely ladies in our lives, the flower process was fun and much easier than I expected. The end result was thirty stunning arrangements, four bouquets, and seven boutonnieres completed in a little less than four hours (not including the time earlier in the week spent receiving flowers, stripping stems, clipping, and placing them in water). The cream and burgundy collection of Queen Anne’s Lace, garden roses, hypericum

berries, dianthus, Gerrondo daisies, and other varieties set the tone for our burgundy and earth-toned vintage look and feel. After eleven months of preparation and countless late-night crafting sessions, it was beyond gratifying to see the big picture we had sketched in our heads finally come to life. The day and decor surpassed anything we could have hoped for, right down to every last spoken word in the ceremony. To our friends and family, it’s no secret that Ben and I are a little (or a lot) “lovey dovey,” and we wanted that personality to shine through in our ceremony. Lucky for us, we had a phenomenal first-time officiant in our close friend, Steve. His poetic words of wisdom, humor, and incredible ability to captivate our guests

meshed well with our heartfelt and funloving vows. Heading into the wedding, Ben—a cinematographer who has filmed his fair share of weddings and knows how fast they fly by—stressed how important it was to remain present. I was so grateful for his reminder. We took in every second of the ceremony, savoring each word and loving glance. Complete with sweet adlibbing, our nuptials were so “us” and by far the most meaningful part of the day. Our celebration of love and adventure continued with a dream reception of great barbecue, cake, pies, and other sweet treats, and one of the most packed dance floors we’ve ever experienced. Not only was it a great wedding, but it was exactly the fun, cozy backyard party we had envisioned all along. Jackson will forever hold a piece of our hearts. °
