Professional Experience

I am interested in collaborating with a high profile design firm that focuses on innovative design of buildings. Through my professional and academic path I have developed a strong skill set that allows me generate and carry a project from a conceptual stage to construction details. I have worked on a range of specialties that include environmental performance, energy & daylight design, parametric design, construction, visualization and BIM. Group work and collaboration with consultants has been a cornerstone to my profession. I believe that challenging the design process and thoughtfully intersecting architecture with other areas of specialty create new and powerful results.

Nanegalito, Ecuador Professional Work Personal Commission 2010 - 2011 Involvement in Projects: _Architect _Design / Build

To re-interpret a vernacular typology while establishing a dialogue of honesty and transparency with the materials was the goal of this project: wood, brick and concrete compose a living space which performs without the aid of mechanical ventilation or cooling in a tropical hot-humid climate. The cantilevered terrace creates a dramatic view towards the landscape and the open sky; reflecting the owner’s personality.

_Construction Progress (December 2014)

My role on is this project was to manage the design process, elaborate all construction documents and oversee the initial construction of a residential development in the coastline of Ecuador. I established an integrated project delivery method to collaborate with engineers and other consultants from day one. I also acted as sustainable design consultant where the goal was to create energy efficient and passive homes. The project consists of off-site prefabricated building modules for 40+ homes, plus common areas and a large landscape park in between.

Quito suffers from large unplanned urban developments along its periphery, scarce open spaces, undefined commercial and financial centers. Amidst Quito’s densifying and un-orderly Urban fabric, the proposal acts as a catalyst for Socio-cultural integration, open urban space and minimal environmental impact. The project is the epicenter for ordered financial and commercial growth.

The design for the Columbarium is logical, simple but yet monumental. A permeable facade that follows a certain rhythm. A liminality between Earth and Sky, Life and Death... Light and Shadow.

Computational Algorithm

Seoul, Republic of Korea University of Pennsylvania Instructor: John Hong 2014

Appropriation, growth and change by-laws for units are dictated through a logical algorithmic process enabling new live-work-public typologies. Initial State

This project is megastructure in the lineage of Soleri, Archigram and the Japanese Metabolism: a structure that allows for growth and creates an organic appropriation of space; ever-changing to adapt. This typology is a solution for challenges Seoul’s faces. The nuclear family as a social unit is being replaced by other social configurations (singles, coworkers, single parents, friends, etc.). As the country moves

from a manufacturing to an intellectual economy; start-up economies emerge led by young entrepreneurs that blur the boundary between work and life. The re-appropriation of the military base at the south and many large real-estate developments threaten the vernacular urban and social fabric at the north of the site. The project is a catalyst to preserve and expand this delicate social and urban network while adapting to social and economical needs.

The building is divided into to two types of spaces. The shared spaces foster human interaction, creation of ideas, fabrication of culture and flexible spaces for the community. The private units offer the framework for people to live, create businesses and expand/contract during their lifespan. The building as a facilitator for the emergence of a social and urban fabric is key.

Spatial Shifting

Washington, DC University of Pennsylvania Instructor: Ben Krone 2013 Client: Daniel Miller (Fundrise.com)

_Aggregation Logics

_Conceptual Sketches

This project has been developed with two main goals in mind: to create a better living environment for the deaf and to act as a link between Gallaudet university and the emerging food-oriented neighborhood in which it sits in. The concept of shifting, displacement and aggregation was explored as an instigator for a new typology that mixes private/public and interior/exterior spaces. The generated aggregation of units allows for a dynamic three-dimensional space in which there is a perceptual connection at all times, at all levels, stimulating the great visual peripheral ability the deaf possess.

New York City, NY University of Pennsylvania Instructor: Franca Trubiano Partner: Peter Wildfeuer 2013 Facade Consultant: Bruce Nichol (Front Inc.) Engineering Consultant: Gordon Carrie (Arup NY)

This project rethinks the way in which we understand the office building in order to generate spaces that are responsive to the environment and its users. The research focus on creating an intelligent system rather than a discrete design.

The skin of the building is generated through a complex genetic algorithm that modulates geometry for high performance in the given site; responding to context, location and environment. The evolutionary computing algorithm generates a building skin and proceeds to tests its performance, evaluates, modifies the “DNA of the geometry and tests again; recursively until an optimum solution is found.
