O

h, to have the life of Holly Willoughby. While most of us begrudgingly returned to work at least 10lbs heavier after the Christmas holidays, the TV host flew out to Barbados, just days after a skiing holiday, with her family and friends to welcome in the new year in style. And judging by our exclusive pics, Holly was one of the rare few who didn’t stuff her face over the festive period. www.heatworld.com

Dipping her toes in the sea, the mum of three looked supertoned and slim in a scallop-trim swimsuit and black denim skirt . It’s no wonder her bod was one of the most talked about of 2017. Having displayed a killer size 12 figure for most of her career, Holly’s lost a significant amount of weight over the past year, which is said to be down to her love of chicken, chickpeas and carrots, as well as Pilates. However, Holly, 36, has always been reluctant to discuss her weight and fitness regime, saying, “I don’t want to encourage eating

I’m quite active and I try not to let the way I look be the main focus because it’s not the important thing. I actually avoid talking about my diet and exercise regime because Hands up if you’re loving life I’ve interviewed so many people affected by eating disorders.” But with her three children, Harry, eight, Belle, six, and three-year-old Chester growing up, she has now started making more time for herself and her wellbeing. “The children are a bit older, so I’ve got a little bit

more time for myself. And I’m always one of those people that if you feel happy and healthy, that’s all that matters,” she’s said. And that also means making time for more holidays. In the past year alone, Holly’s been away eight times (she’s clearly a master negotiator when it comes to TV contracts), including a second honeymoon with husband Dan Baldwin to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. “We had our first week away without the children – a couples’ holiday – it was the first time since our honeymoon,” she later revealed. “And it was amazing. It was nice to have just us and have that time. It was just magical.” n

Sheridan’s sunshine fling Single ladies, put your hands up…

S

he’s called her love life a “disaster”, but Sheridan Smith seemed pretty chuffed to be single as she flirted with a mystery guy and knocked back the drinks on a girly break in Mexico. At one point, her top-knotted friend gave the 36 year old an impromptu shoulder massage before they sat and chatted on sun loungers. The actress was enjoying some much-needed relaxation at the exotic resort – posing for some Instagram shots on an inflatable flamingo and dancing on her balcony, with the caption “So happy”. The Cilla star also shared a less-than-traditional New Year’s post stating resolutions were more “casual promises to myself I’m under no legal obligation to fulfil”.

Sheridan has often been unlucky in love, particularly during her relationship with ex-Hollyoaks star Greg Wood. The pair met on Twitter and began dating in 2014, but seven months later, Sheridan tweeted, “Just been hurt by an idiot boy again.” The couple rekindled things in 2015 and began an on/ off relationship, which finally came to an end in 2017. She then had a short romance with tattooed model Graham Nation, but she seems to have chosen to start 2018 as a single lady. The West End star seems positive 2018 is going to be a good year for her after what she described as a “meltdown” following the death of her dad in 2016, telling fans, “I lost my mind [for] a bit. But I’m back.” n

Cheryl & Liam face toughest test yet Will Chiam be able to survive this?

T

hey’ve only been together for two years, but Cheryl and Liam Payne have already squeezed a lot into their relationship, including the arrival of son Bear last March. But spending time as a family has been quite a challenge, and heat has been told things may be about to get even tougher. With Cheryl set to launch her big musical comeback, she and Bear won’t always be around at home when Liam returns from his frequent work trips to America. “Cheryl is going all out to relaunch her solo career this year, and Bear will be travelling around the country with her,” an insider tells heat. “She’s told Liam there’s no way she’s going

to be a stay-at-home mum and give up her music and he respects this. [Her mum] Joan will help out when Liam can’t be there. She’s spent the past couple of years out of the spotlight, so she feels that she has to give 110 per cent of herself to the new album, and she doesn’t want to be worrying about Bear if he’s being looked after by someone else when Liam is away.”

that Chezza has made up her mind. “Of course Liam wishes he could be there more, but there’s not a lot he can do about it, as he’s got his own work commitments taking him back over to the States,” our source adds. “The demand for him is huge right now and it’s just impossible to try to sync up his schedule with Cheryl’s. But she’s doing her best to cope

‘There’s no way Cheryl will be a stay-at-home mum’ While former 1D star Liam – who has spent almost half of Bear’s life away launching a successful solo career – knows it’s going to be hard for them all to coordinate their schedules and spend time together, we’re told

with the situation and she hopes that Liam understands – she knows he’ll be there whenever he can. There’s also talk of her being a full-time judge on The X Factor again, which will take her away from home more.”

While we’ve no doubt Chiam will get through this tough year, we couldn’t help but notice the lack of public gushing they did over Christmas. Over the past couple of years, they’ve been quite vocal about their love for each other – with Liam once saying, “ I have the most beautiful girlfriend in the world,” and Cheryl posting a selfie of them dressed as elves last Christmas – but they were suspiciously quiet this year. While she posted a picture of her dog in a Santa hat, Liam only thanked Cheryl for being an “amazing mum” to Bear, as part of his memories of the year. Maybe they went rogue and declared their love for each other in person. How very old-fashioned. ■ KATE RANDALL

ccidentally double tapping an Instagram photo of an ex is something we all dread, but liking a picture calling for the early release of your convicted criminal baby daddy is taking it to the next level. But that’s exactly what Ferne McCann did, just days after Arthur Collins – father of her two-month-old daughter Sunday – was sentenced to 20 years in jail for an acid attack. One of Arthur’s relatives put up a picture of Arthur captioned, “Free up my brother.” Although Ferne later retracted her like, with a friend saying she had “pressed a button by mistake”, she had also liked another pic of Arthur posted by the relative just a few days earlier. Now, in the same week that the star returned to work on This Morning, she is facing a backlash. “I refuse to watch anything with her on, when she’s showing her support for this awful man,” one said. For her part, Ferne has publicly condemned Arthur and insists she split up from him the

moment he went on the run after the attack in April. But this drama comes hot on the heels of Arthur admitting a charge of smuggling a mobile phone into prison in September so he could speak to Ferne. At the hearing last week, his lawyer referred to the former TOWIE star as “his partner at the time”. ■

anet Jackson has had a roller coaster of a year, but sources tell heat she is looking to the future and is desperate to have a second child at the age of 51, with new boyfriend Jermaine Dupri – who also happens to be her ex. Janet and husband Wissam Al Mana had son Eissa in January 2017 with the help of IVF, but the Janet and Jermaine in 2008

couple announced their split just a few months later. Janet and the business magnate are now locked in a contentious divorce and custody battle, but a source close to the songstress has told heat she has already found love again – with producer Jermaine, who she broke up with in 2009 after seven years together. “Janet is on again with Jermaine,” says our insider, who tells us the couple are intent on keeping a low profile, so as not to disrupt divorce negotiations. Jermaine and Janet were spotted “cuddled up in a private booth holding hands” after one of her tour dates in Atlanta. And now our source says that Janet is keen to have a baby with Jermaine, revealing, “Janet has told friends she and Jermaine are intent on it. She gave birth before at 50, and believes she can do it again with IVF. “Janet and Jermaine have also told friends that they’re keen to get married as soon as they possibly can.” ■

Ange’s new mAn S And he’s even managed to win over the kids

he’s kept her love life on the back-burner since splitting from Brad Pitt in 2016, instead focusing on making movies and saving the world with her six children in tow. But heat can exclusively reveal that Angelina Jolie’s finally smiling again after getting close to a new man, Cambodian rapper and filmmaker praCh (or Prach Ly, to his mum) – and he’s even won her kids around. A source close to the actress, whose latest directorial offering, First They Killed My Father, tells the harrowing true story of activist Loung Ung during the Cambodian genocide, says that Prach has become an important figure in her family’s life since being introduced by mutual friend Loung a few months ago. The rapper, who as a child fled the Khmer Rouge regime with his family and settled in the US, has often been spotted visiting Angelina’s LA home, as well as taking Ange and the kids to the Cambodia Town neighbourhood. We’re told that his passion for

Cambodian politics make him a perfect match for the 42-year-old actress. Meanwhile, her eldest son Maddox, 16, originally from Cambodia, has gained an important mentor. “Prach is a great role model,” our source tells us. “He can teach him about his homeland. Prach is taking him under his wing and Angelina couldn’t be happier. She and Prach have a special bond – they’re perfect for each other.” It’s claimed that Maddox had a strained relationship with Brad towards the end of the marriage, and a fight between the two got physical on a private jet in September 2016,

Try not to look too smug, Prach

triggering Ange to file for divorce. Brad has since been cleared of any wrongdoing and we’re told he knows about Ange’s new relationship. Angelina fell in love with Cambodia while filming Tomb Raider there in 2001, and adopted Maddox from a local orphanage a year later. While Maddox has grown up regularly visiting his birthplace, he has until now been missing a deeper connection to its culture. Prach, we’re told, has filled that gap, taking Ange and Maddox – as well as his siblings, Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 11, and nine-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox – to a Buddhist temple in Cambodia Town. And it seems even the monks approve of this blossoming romance. “I did not know who she was, but everyone told me afterwards,” one monk tells heat. “People tell me she has done a lot of good things for my country and that she is helping it, and so I give her blessings.” Being blessed by a monk has to be a pretty good start to any relationship, right? n Charlotte oliver

he finally got her wish – her family all together for Christmas and New Year, so no wonder Victoria Beckham looked so smug in her recent Instagram snaps. But while the photos of the Beckhams’ festivities seemed like the perfect picture of family life, we’re told things were rather different behind the scenes. “Like all families, there was tension and a few arguments, as they had spent a lot of time together – the most they’d all

spent with each other in a long time – and at certain points it was too much,” an insider tells heat. “Victoria was desperate for everything to be perfect, which sometimes created tensions. But, of course, she wanted to show the world how happy they all were, hence the constant pictures uploaded on her social media showing everyone having a fantastic time. But, as with any family, it wan’t always as idyllic as it looked in the pictures.” Victoria, David and their four children – Brooklyn, 18, Romeo,

And we know airport travel is not the greatest of fun, but the Beckhams looked decidedly miserable to be leaving the cold weather behind for a luxury holiday in the sun. It had been touch and go whether the whole family would make it, as Brooklyn was considering spending Christmas and New Year

with girlfriend Chloë Moretz. Thankfully for Posh, 43, he decided against it and his presence may have been the reason why she was so determined for everything to go well. “When Brooklyn said he’d be there for the whole time, Vic was over the moon, and went and above and beyond to make sure he had a great time,” our source adds. “She planned a load of stuff for them to do and there wasn’t that much time for relaxing and watching the TV. Speaking to heat days before entering the Celeb Big Brother house last week, the 26 year old says he’s been working hard to look good on screen, and in front of the ladies he’s now making house with (eyes up, Ann Widdecombe.) “I’m not self-conscious, but no one wants to not look their best when they’re going on something like this,” he says. “I’ve lost a stone in six weeks by working out and taking Forza weight-loss supplements, which have worked like

If something happens, you’ve just got to go with it.” And there’s enough potential on offer – our money’s on glamour model Jess Impiazzi – especially since Jonny admits, “I do attract drama.” As for his romance with Steph, which many called out as a “showmance”, Jonny swears that, for him at least, it was love. “I did see a future for us, but I question now whether it was legit for her. Let’s be honest, Steph’s a bit of a dinosaur in this industry. I don’t think she’s doing much these days. I’d just come off one of the biggest shows and maybe it was a chance for her to get back into the limelight.” And the police claims? “It’s the biggest bullshit I’ve ever heard in my life – the ramblings of a nutter,” he stresses. “No crimes have been reported, and obviously Big Brother does background checks. KYLIE: DUMPED WEEKS BEFORE DUE DATE The star is preparing for life as a single mum

S

he’s due to give birth next month, but Kylie Jenner is reportedly facing the future as a single parent after boyfriend Travis Scott cooled things off over Christmas. Friends have revealed that the rapper told Kylie, 20, the relationship was over just days after the pair were photographed together at Kris Jenner’s Christmas Eve party. Sources close to the couple say that Travis, 25, had been pulling away from her ever since Kylie revealed she was pregnant, but the break-up still came as a heartbreaking shock to her. Now we’re told the star – who only started dating Travis last April after splitting from long-term boyfriend Tyga – is planning a fresh start for her and her baby, and is even considering a move from LA to New York.

“Kylie really thought her future was with Travis and the baby, so the split came as a huge surprise,” an insider close to the star tells heat. “She’s going through a very dark time with her mood swings and changing body shape, plus her romance is in ruins, so she’s decided she needs a change and has always loved New York. “However, no one in her family thinks this is a good idea – her mom is freaking out. Her family are worried that she’s fallen into some sort of depression because of how uninvolved Travis has been. They’re convinced she’s not thinking straight.” The source adds, “Kylie is very headstrong. The only thing that could change her mind right now would be Travis. If he offered to move in with her and the baby in LA, she would stay. But that is not happening and Travis has she’s basically called it off a single mum.” ■

Last week, 33-year-old Khloé – who is six months pregnant – said, “I’ve been in the delivery room for all of [my sisters’ ] babies, and I even witnessed Kylie being born.” And, as heat has reported, Kris was even trying to persuade her and Kylie to have a joint birth. But when asked if any of her famous family would be there for the birth of her first child, she hinted that boyfriend Tristan Thompson, 26, might not be keen, saying, “I think I have to talk to Tristan about this. I know it’s overwhelming.” But insiders say the basketball star has put his foot down and insisted the family won’t be getting an invite to the delivery room. “Tristan can’t stand it when her family meddles, and has been very clear about that from the moment they started dating,” says heat’s source. “He got into a major panic when Kris, Kim and Kourtney were mapping out Khloé’s delivery schedule and making it into some military operation. Their relationship has gotten so much stronger away from the TV

cameras and her sisters popping over to give their ten cents every five minutes. He attributes that to the fact they’ve afforded themselves breathing room, and asked Khloé if she really wanted to subject herself to the previous, circus-like births that the other Kardashians allowed themselves to be put through. It didn’t take Khloé long to think it over and agree with Tristan.” In the past, the Kardashians have famously relied on the same LA-based doctor to deliver their babies. Kourtney, Kim and Rob have all welcomed their children with the help of Dr Paul Crane. He also assisted momager Kris with some of her deliveries decades ago. But, despite being an LA girl, Khloé now spends most of her time in Cleveland, Ohio, where Tristan plays basketball for the Cavaliers. And last week, the star confirmed that she would give birth there. “Khloé loves Cleveland, and sees it as her new home, plus she’s had fantastic medical treatment when she’s been for check ups during the pregnancy,” we’re told. “It also offers her more privacy than she’d get in LA, where it would no doubt cause a media circus with paparazzi and fans camped outside the hospital. In Ohio, Khloé’s treated like any other person as opposed to this huge superstar. She knows that she’d be better off having this baby somewhere more peaceful than LA.” Last week, Khloé confessed that her family were bombarding her with tips now she’s pregnant, saying, “A lot of it is unwanted. Kourtney gives a lot of advice. It’s so sweet, but I don’t want to do some of that stuff,” adding, “Let me experience things.” ■ KAT ROMERO

‘Holiday from Hell’ T

here’s nothing better than a romantic holiday in the sun with your significant other, right? Well, seemingly not if you’re Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux. The Hollywood couple recently flew to Mexico for their annual New Year break, but heat ’s been told it’s been far from idyllic. “It’s been a bit of a holiday from hell for both of them,” says an insider. “At the last minute, Justin

started saying he didn’t want to go and thought it would be better if they stayed at home, which was really stressful for Jen. Last year was a bit rough for them as a couple, so they’ve been really keen to work on their marriage. This trip was meant to be the first step in trying to get their relationship back on track. But when they got there, they weren’t spending much time together, and when they did, there were lots of niggling arguments. They tried to enjoy themselves as much as they could for the sake of their friends [Jason Bateman and his wife Amanda], who had gone with them.” The holiday comes after heat revealed how their two-year marriage is in trouble due to the amount of time they’ve been

spending apart, and ongoing disagreements over where they live – Jen, 48, wants to be in LA while Justin, 46, is keen for them to be based in New York. Now, friends are worried the holiday could spell the end for them – just like her break with Brad Pitt in 2005 (*sob*). Back then the pair were pictured kissing on a beach in Anguilla,

following months of rumours about their future, and while fans were relieved to see a united front, days later, they announced their separation. “Brad and Jen had spent months denying there was anything wrong, and during that trip, they finally admitted it was over, and friends are concerned history could repeat itself,” our insider says. “Nobody wants to see their marriage end and they hope they can work through any problems they’ve got. It seems the vacation may have highlighted some issues and they both know they need to work things out before it’s too late.” n kate Randall

he “will they/ won’t they reunite” rumours were put to rest last month when Louise and Jamie Redknapp were granted a divorce, following months of intense speculation about their future. And although it’d been believed Louise was behind the breakdown of their 19-year marriage, court documents cited Jamie’s “unreasonable behaviour” – something he is not happy about. “Jamie is furious that he’s now being painted as the bad guy,” an insider tells heat, adding that Jamie’s saying he’s ready to move on, and it won’t be long before she sees him with someone new. Louise, 43, actually filed for divorce in March last year, several months before it was first reported that she’d moved out. And in the divorce papers, she insisted Jamie, 44, was solely responsible for the split. “Louise was fed up with everyone saying she instigated the break-up due to her wanting to go out more and relaunch her solo career after Strictly,” our source says. “They’ve got their sons to think of, so she wouldn’t dream of talking about what went on, but now she’s ready to move on and she’s glad that the divorce papers have shifted some of the blame away from her. Neither of them wanted a divorce

and they both tried to save the marriage, but it was beyond repair and Jamie agreed to take responsibility – he could have argued against it if he really wanted to.” Following Louise’s move out of the pair’s Surrey home, where they lived with their two sons, Charley, 13, and Beau, nine, she has been busy relaunching her career, while Jamie has mainly been keeping a low profile, besides work commitments. “Louise was the one who decided to end the marriage and move out of the family home to focus on her career, so Jamie feels she’s not completely blameless,” our source tells us. “While his focus is obviously on their sons, he will start dating soon, and he’ll no doubt have a lot of offers. Naturally, he can’t help but hope Louise will see what she’s missing and get jealous when he’s pictured with a new girlfriend, but he refuses to feel guilty about it. As well as being good for him to move on, it will also be the ultimate revenge.” But if the TV pundit thinks his actions will have a lasting impact he may be disappointed as, according to our source, Louise is resolutely unapologetic. “She’s the happiest she’s been in a long time and feels as if she’s got her freedom back. She thinks it will make her a better mum,” our source adds. “Seeing Jamie with someone new will obviously be hard for her, but she knows she’s made the right choice.” n Charlotte oliver

and they are still on friendly terms. But, of course, they are both devastated.” The former teenage sweethearts were reported to have spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve apart, with Ant, 41, celebrating it in Newcastle and London with his mum and sister. Neither of them have publicly responded to the constant speculation into their split, but last week Lisa, 41, did make a very public farewell to her year of troubles – by posting an animated image of herself holding her nose in disgust while holding a rubbish bag labelled 2017. Despite some reports claiming that she’s unwilling to give up on their marriage, the make-up artist is also said to be desperate to move on from all the stress of the past year. Sources say that despite no announcement being made yet, friends feel it is only delaying the inevitable. “It’s clear to people close to them that they’re broken hearted,” a source says. “It seems they are definitely over.” n

t’s safe to say that 2017 was a challenging year for Ant McPartlin and Lisa Armstrong, with their marriage appearing to break down in the fallout from his addiction revelations. But with a new year comes a new start, and it looks like the estranged couple are set to make some big changes. Sadly, it seems that may mean officially announcing the end of their 11-year marriage, with insiders saying it’s the TV presenter who wants them to go public sooner rather than later. t was the Strictly romance everyone was talking about. Well, one of them, anyway. Mollie King and AJ Pritchard’s “unbelievable chemistry” (as Shirley Ballas described it) throughout the BBC show had viewers convinced the couple were dating. They were right and, rather excitingly, it seems their romance is still going strong, as they were spotted leaving a friend’s wedding arm in arm, with AJ gallantly carrying Mollie’s clutch bag. The pair attended the wedding of Strictly ’s choreographer Jason Gilkison and his partner James

Strictly couple can’t get enough of each other Carney as a couple, and a source tells heat that they were clearly smitten with each other. “Now that Strictly ’s over, Mollie and AJ don’t care who knows about them – they just didn’t want it to take away the focus while they were dancing,” our insider says. “They’ve really fallen for each other and get on so well.” During the show, the couple were very careful not to confirm or deny any dating rumours, but would often gush about their relationship. When Mollie, 30, was voted out in the semi-finals, she called AJ, 23, her “hero” and tweeted, “AJ, I don’t even know where to begin. I have felt like the luckiest girl in the world being able to dance in your arms every Saturday night. I can’t even begin to thank you enough for everything you have done. You are magical.” AJ was never short of praise for his dancing partner, either, calling Mollie “an amazing person” and tweeting that, “Every performance has become a cherished memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

Now that the couple will be able to go public with their relationship, Mollie is keen to take things more seriously with AJ as, after years of heartache, she’s said to really want this relationship to work. Mollie dated Lawson rocker Andy Brown for three year s until 2011, before starting an on/off relationship with model David Gandy. The pair split, reunited in 2015, and split again in 2016. “Mollie has had her fair share of heartbreak, and she’s hoping that AJ could be the one she settles down with. All her friends are getting married and having babies and, while she doesn’t want to rush things, that’s what she ultimately ANDY BROWN wants. Everyone Mollie was with the Lawson loves AJ and are front man for three years, hopeful it could all before splitting in 2011. Andy said Mollie “got bored”. work. Things are definitely getting more serious.” ■

hile one Strictly romance is going from strength to strength, it looks as if it’s all over between our fave pro couple, Karen and Kevin Clifton. While the pair, who’ve been married for two years, both attended Strictly choreographer Jason Gilkison’s wedding, a group photo tellingly shows them standing at opposite ends of the group – much like the final weeks of Strictly, where they seemed to be avoiding each other. Karen – who was seen out on dates with accountant Stuart Wood last year – had only

just returned to the UK after spending Christmas in her native America with her family, while Kevin spent the festive season this side of the pond with his dancer sister Joanne. Karen also hinted to fans that she was starting afresh in the new year with an Instagram post that said, “Nourish. Grow. Inspire. Selfdestruction is not an option. And let every choice you make be a brick in the foundation of rebuilding yourself.” Hmm, it looks as if their upcoming tour together could be rather awkward. n

he was one of the first reality TV stars and, after getting engaged to Leftovers star Chris Zylka on a recent skiing trip, Paris Hilton is straight back to business. A source close to Paris, 36, tells heat that she plans on rekindling her TV career with a new reality show. “Paris really wants to be back on television. She’s jealous that the Kardashians and her aunts on The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills have capitalised on a genre she essentially created,” our insider says. “Plus, Paris is keen to prove she’s a changed woman. She plans on showing herself as a doting wife, rather than the rich party girl image that made her.” Paris fans will recall The Simple Life, which

premiered in 2003 and starred the heiress alongside best friend Nicole Richie. “Paris has reached out to Nicole about possibly appearing on the show she’s pitching,”

the source continues, “Paris thinks fans would love to see them together. And since Nicole is married with a family, it would fit perfectly with the theme of the show.” Paris’ TV career seemed to diminish with the rise of the Kardashians – and Paris has not forgotten it. “She would love the chance to get one over on Kim Kardashian. Kim started as Paris’ closet organiser and now she is one of the biggest stars in the world, while a lot of people see Paris as a has-been,” our insider adds. “She’s talking to executives from the major networks and a few streaming services, Congrats, you guys and pitching herself

as the executive producer and star. She’s promising all the inside details on her bridal shower, a one-off special for the big day, and she’s guaranteeing drama.” We are praying for this wedding to be most gloriously trashy affair ever. ■ KATIE HOLLOWAY

On The Simple Life, Paris and Nicole were doing work experience at a funeral parlour when Nicole knocked an urn over. Paris then helpfully hoovered up the spilt ashes.

When Paris said bye to My New BFF contestant Katie, she didn’t take it well, leaving with the immortal words, “F**k you, Paris, you’re not as nice as people think you are!”

Paris became a local weather girl for a challenge on The Simple Life and told us it was “raining everywhere” and we should “all just move to LA”.

They’re both comfy kissing on camera, so that’s good

Her $2million ring

When Paris announced her engagement on Instagram, no one was looking at her or her bloke – all eyes were on the mahoosive rock on her finger. After dating for two years, Chris proposed with the whopping 20-carat diamond ring, which he designed himself. The pear-shaped piece was inspired by one of Paris’ mum’s rings and cost $2m. Paris loved Chris’ choice, saying, “The ring was so gorgeous and sparkling. I was shaking as I put it on.” Yeah, we’d be trembling, too, if our finger was suddenly worth that much.

Paris was clearly not happy with the calibre of BFFs from her first three shows, so had to travel to Dubai to find another one.

“That’s hot!” Everything was hot. All the time. Old man who’d just been to a funeral? That’s hot.

eautiful sunsets, gymming, and drinking his-’n’-hers smoothies – Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan couldn’t look any happier spending some much-needed time together in the US. After finishing a gruelling eight-month filming schedule in various locations all over the world for the new series of Our Girl, Michelle, 30, has spent the past couple of weeks relaxing with her husband of almost three years in LA, where he’s been based since September. And a source close to the actress has revealed to heat that Mark, also 30, is keen for Michelle to now settle there and

become the perfect Hollywood wife. “Mark has really been selling the place hard to her while she’s been in LA,” our source reveals. “She loves the sunshine and the healthy lifestyle, and she’s finally coming around to the idea of spending more time there with Mark, and also going for auditions. He’s been showing her all the good things about living in LA, such as the great gyms, all the shops and amazing restaurants, and the best places to hang out. He wants Michelle to enjoy it as much as he does. He thinks they make the perfect LA couple.” Mark is keen to show Michelle – who’s previously said she’s too much

While Michelle and Mark have always talked openly about wanting a big family, it seems Mark is keen to get started sooner rather than later. Posting a picture of his wife cuddling up to a relative’s baby on Instagram Stories, Mark captioned it, “Getting the practise in,” sparking yet more rumours the pair will be starting a family soon.

However, the couple have been at odds on the subject of family recently, with Michelle commenting in October, “We’ve not planned anything and realistically nothing can happen right now, because I’m too busy.” She also told heat that she didn’t really want to discuss it, so Mark’s rather public hint may not have gone down too well.

He’s been bigging her up and telling them what a talented actress she is.” But we’re told it’s putting added pressure on Michelle, as she feels like she doesn’t want to disappoint her husband. “Mark has been trying his best to coach Michelle and make her feel more confident, but he’s been so busy with his work that she’s had to spend a lot of time by herself thinking about all these meetings and whether or not she really could live in Los Angeles,” our insider adds. “The idea that the dream could turn into a reality is making her feel as though she’s not good enough, and she doesn’t want it to ruin the time she has there with Mark. Speaking to heat, the 33 year old, who is making his defiant comeback to live TV after the 2015 mishap that saw him announce who was leaving The X Factor before it went to deadlock, talks judging blind, silence from Simon Cowell and – most pressingly – whether those Mel Sykes rumours were actually true… We’ve been reading a lot about your love life! Is any of it true? No, I haven’t been dating Melanie Sykes for a year! We had a brief fling at the start of the year – we’re great friends. But we’re not dating,

that’s for sure. I’m still single and still looking to mingle. Does that mean you’ve been getting up to some cheeky flirting during auditions? There’s obviously some attractive talent on the show, but I have to be strictly professional. I’m here to coach them and find a star. Besides, Jennifer has me under lock and key. But I’ve had a little flirt or two – I can’t change who I am! It must be hard judging people without seeing them… You know, I practised at home. I put on last year’s show and sat with my back to it and spun around when I liked someone. Did Simon Cowell send you a good luck card? No! Ever since I left The X Factor, I’ve made my own decisions. Simon knows where I am – he has my telephone number, so if he wants

This is my chance to show people my opinions and give them constructive criticism, and not just be that cheeky chappy nice guy. Meanwhile, we hear you’ve still found time to keep up your intensive gym routine… I have to, otherwise I am going to get fat. I eat so much food. I’ve got my dad’s genes, and I love peanut butter and cheese. I just try to keep fit and healthy. Until I get a girlfriend – then I’ll get fat again! The Voice is on ITV1 on Saturdays

He’s The Greatest Showman

HUSBAND GOALS #075

#41

HUGH JACKMAN

He sings, he dances and he can probably bench press you in his sleep. Hugh Jackman isn’t just husband goals, he’s the ultimate man. When he burst onto our screens as Marvel superhero Wolverine back in 2000, we didn’t know what to do with ourselves.

VANTAGE NEWS

To get into his mindblowing physical shape for that role, Hugh would work for months before filming with a personal trainer. We could go into detail about his fitness regime but, essentially, he lifted a lot of heavy weights and punched a lot of punch bags. His trainer Mike Ryan calls Hugh his “masterpiece” and we ain’t disagreeing. As if he couldn’t get better, Hugh has been married to Deborra-Lee Furness for over 21 years and is clearly still madly in love with her. He recently gushed, “I’m married to the greatest woman alive. She’s amazing. We’re best friends and we share everything.” Swoon.

T

he Siddiquis have managed to get on the wrong train. “They’re heading to Reading!” explains a PR from Studio Lambert, the makers of C4’s Gogglebox. It’s two hours before our shoot in London and usually this kind of “hiccup” when we’re on the tightest of deadlines would have us tearing clumps of hair out. Yet, instead, we’re laughing. Such is our affection for the Siddiquis (AKA dad Sid, 72, and his sons, Umar, 42, and Baasit, 35), we will forgive them just about anything – especially when their arrival is accompanied by profuse apologies and a hilarious recounting of their getting on the wrong train and panicking when they couldn’t get off. For the record, they blame Sid. For the past five years, we’ve loved watching the Siddiquis pass judgment on the week’s TV, and have genuinely grown to think of them fondly as our friends. Cheeky IT teacher Baasit is the outright joker, while

whip-smart microbiologist Umar provides the dry asides. As for everyone’s favourite chilled-out dad Sid, he chuckles away warmly at his sons’ witty observations, while sliding so far down the brown leather sofa, we’re scared he’ll get lost down there with the loose change. One of the original Gogglebox families, the Siddiquis’ warmth, humour and all-round lovability have already helped the show scoop two National Television Awards, and now – as it’s shortlisted yet again in the Factual Entertainment category – could they help make it a hat trick? They’ve certainly got our vote… Be honest, is there anything stronger than tea in your mugs during filming? [All look at each other and smile.] Sid: Could be. Umar: Strong tea. [Laughs.] Baasit: We enjoy tea a lot, don’t we? Umar, it’s filmed in your house. Do you franticly clean beforehand? U: Before, after and sometimes during,

Look at him now, he’s reclining. S: I just flow. What were your TV highlights of 2017? S: There have been quite a few. One of my favourites was Strictly, there’s just something about it. U: I’ve been marinated in something, let’s put it like that. How exciting is it when you go to awards ceremonies and meet people you watch on TV? S: It’s mega. U: It’s very surreal. S: It’s amazing, the comments we’ve got from proper celebrities. Once Masood from EastEnders said we were brilliant. I said, “Hang on, you do this every day and you’re brilliant.” And he said, “No, no, no, we act. You are real stars.” B: That’s very sweet. Funnily enough, I was at a New Year’s Eve party, and some guy went, “Are you on Gogglebox?” and

He couldn’t really place me, and then he went, “Your surname’s Masood [from EastEnders], isn’t it?” [They all laugh.] I took it as a compliment. Have you got any other celeb fans? S: I think I’ve been trying to come to terms with it for some years, and the only reason I haven’t done it is that it would be a shock to a lot of people – this was before Gogglebox. So for that reason I just continued [dyeing my hair]. Also, I had a few comments, like, “How come Sid’s hair is darker than Umar’s?” U: It was raising a few eyebrows. U: Who’s to say 007 has to be one person? Maybe it can be all three of us. B: Dad has been practising getting out of swimming pools in his trunks like in Casino Royale. S: No, that’s not true! I have been practising, though… not the swimming pool bit. But when I saw we’d have to do a bit of acting for the shoot, I got the remote and held it like a gun on my own in the living room, and my wife walked in and was absolutely gobsmacked. She said, “What the hell are you doing?” What would your 007 motto be? S: Licence to chill… ■

B: He was telling us about it and it was quite funny, so we decided to record it and put it online. We got some nice feedback, so we just carried on doing it. What was the dream about? h, the child star – so often cited as a cautionary tale, especially when mentioned in the same breath as Lindsay Lohan. But what about other young stars from way back when? heat recently met the latest cast of Celebs Go Dating (currently filming its third series) and, among the usual reality-TV recruits, was Jonathan Lipnicki. Yes, that cutie-pie who stole the show from Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire, and shared screen time with a mouse in Stuart Little. As it happens, Jonathan’s now a fully-grown 27 year old, who, having shunned the spotlight in his teens, has since returned to acting. Oh, and he’s also an MMA champ with some impressive abs. After hearing all about Jonathan’s quest for love, we did some digging to find out what our other favourite child stars are up to. Spoiler alert: some are doing better than others…

www.heatworld.com 13-19 January 2018

What made you go on Celebs Go Dating? I just thought, “I’m young and single, so why not?” When girls meet you, are they surprised that you’re now an adult? It has hurt my dating chances in some ways, or attracted the wrong sort of person. But it’s also helped me learn what kind of girl I’m looking for: someone genuine.

You’re 27 – would you be up for dating an older woman? Yeah, I’ve dated a lot of older ladies – my only serious relationship was with someone who was nine years older than me. You’ve hit headlines for your fit workout pics. Has that helped with the ladies? I don’t think it hurts. For me, it improved my confidence and my work ethic. ■

HE SAW DEAD PEOPLE

He unwillingly saw dead people in 1999’s The Sixth Sense, which – on the plus side – earned him an Oscar nomination at the tender age of 11. After stepping away from acting in his teens and, for the most part, avoiding the controversy that surrounds so many child stars (with the exception of a car accident aged 18 while drinkdriving), Haley graduated from New York University’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts. Now 29, he’s been making a triumphant return to the small screen, mostly appearing in quirky, off-beat roles (most recently in Silicon Valley). But keep your eyes peeled, because you might not actually recognise him.

REPLACING

The incredible story of how director Ridley Scott removed Kevin Spacey from his

T

he new film All The Money In The World, which has just arrived in UK cinemas, tells an extraordinary true story. It’s about how 16-year-old Paul Getty, the grandson of the then-richest man in the world, John Paul Getty, was kidnapped in Rome in 1973 and a ransom of $17m placed on his head. But his grandfather refused point blank to send the money, despite pleas from the boy’s parents. And the making of the movie has its own incredible true story, too. It was all filmed, edited, and ready to be released in the US by the crucial Christmas deadline for Oscar eligibility, when its key

star Kevin Spacey, who played John Paul Getty, was suddenly embroiled in a huge sex-abuse scandal. So the film’s director Ridley Scott decided to recast the role and reshoot all of Spacey’s scenes. In nine days.

“I ENJOYA BIT OF STRESS” “When I heard about this, I realised there was no way we could go ahead with the film as it was. It would actually affect us badly,” explained Scott, referring to the Spacey revelations, which included allegations he assaulted a 14-year-old boy. He was right, of course – the public would have little appetite for a film with a disgraced star in such a key role, yet it’s unheard of for a major

www.heatworld.com 13-19 January 2018

movie to be recast and reshot mere weeks before its release. But Ridley Scott, who’s now 80 years old, isn’t one to shirk a challenge. The director of such classics as Alien, Blade Runner and Thelma & Louise, who makes at least one major movie per year, told American GQ, “I enjoy a bit of stress. It was hard at first. I had to say to my producers, ‘Listen, I can recast this. We can get this together. We can go at the same date.’”

THE FIRST CHOICE The brilliant irony is that Scott had already asked veteran actor Christopher Plummer, 88, to take the Spacey role and Plummer was in fact the director’s first choice. But when the film was

originally cast, studio Sony thought Spacey (who’s 58, but was made to look older with make-up and prosthetics) was a bigger name. That decision ended up costing them an estimated $10m for the reshoots. estimated$10mforthereshoots. Within hours of the Spacey allegations hitting the news, Scott was making calls to secure Scottwasmakingcallstosecure the same filming locations he had used, although he did have to hadused, althoughhedidhaveto resort to “green screen” special effects for some key shots. When Plummer agreed to the challenge of replacing Spacey, it was all go. “There were a lot of dates and phone calls, which is really the stressful stuff,” explained Scott. “Once I’ve got that, I move like lightning. It’s pretty straightforward. I did

film and reshot it in nine days

22 scenes in nine days”. And those 22 scenes happen to feature Spacey/Plummer’s character in locations as far and wide as an English country mansion, Rome, and in one epic sequence, the Jordanian desert.

DOING IT FOR FREE

Mark and Michelle: the A-list version

Perhaps the greatest tribute to Scott’s powers of persuasion is that lead stars of the film, Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg, who each shot myriad scenes with Spacey, agreed to do all the reshoots for free. “I adore [Ridley],” Williams has said. “I hated that this man’s

time and expertise and gentlemanliness were going to kind of be for nought. So, when I got the phone call about the change of plans, I was thrilled.” As for Marky Mark, he faced a unique challenge. “My whole world was just kind of upside-down, because I was shooting another movie,” he’s said. “I was 30lbs lighter, I had a beard… It was definitely a crazy set of circumstances.” Yet in the finished movie, the whole thing feels absolutely seamless. Maybe one day we’ll get a film telling the incredible true story of how they replaced Spacey… ■

leaner, ‘Afitter you? Go SMASH IT’ This week, Joe Wicks shows us how to set goals

heatUB

LGOALS C F#I2T GO FOR

How important is setting workout goals? I’m a goal-orientated person. They motivate me. So if I’ve got to do a shirtless photo shoot, then I’ll train hard and eat really lean leading up to it. But I know from talking to my followers that goals can be really varied. It could be a milestone birthday, a wedding, a holiday, or even just deciding to take control and feel good about how you look. Whatever your goal, it’s really good to write it down and say it out loud to others – I have faith in you that you will go smash it! Are New Year’s resolutions a rubbish way to get fit? You’ve hit the nail on the head –

New Year’s resolutions don’t work. You do them for a couple of weeks, then quickly go back to your old habits. I think that’s because fitness resolutions are often too extreme, take up too much time and are just not sustainable. But that doesn’t mean you can’t nail it in January. My Lean in Fifteen approach aims to set realistic goals, so there really is no excuse not to get lean in 2018. Trust me – ditch the resolutions and make small changes that will become habits instead. We’re aching after working out last week and we really want a nice sit down. Why shouldn’t we? If you’re a complete beginner, it’s highly likely that you will get DOMS [Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness]. But it doesn’t last long. Once you get a bit more conditioned to exercising, you won’t feel so sore. And if you stop exercising as soon as you start feeling the burn, you’re not going to give your body enough of a chance to adapt, and therefore it’ll still hurt afterwards. It’s only when you do ten more reps or 30 seconds extra that your body thinks,

I

t’s week two of our heat Fit Club and time to crank things up. If you followed Kayla Itsines’ workout last week, you’ll already have rolled off the sofa and started moving, so now it’s time to set yourself a challenge. We’ve teamed up with HIIT’s hottest Insta star Joe Wicks, aka The Body Coach, to help you work out how to take your workout to the next level and set yourself a goal to stay motivated.

A hot and sweaty Joe

Joe’s all-neW Hiit Workout

#68

“This sample of my weighted HIIT is a great way to add a little more intensity”

“Shit, I better get fit. I better burn that extra fat and adapt and build some lean muscle.” What do you say to yourself when you’re struggling with motivation? I often get asked if I have a “cheat” day and I always say it’s not a cheat day, it’s called life. We’re all going to have days when we don’t want to exercise, or where we have a blowout on the food and drink front. And when I do that, I don’t beat myself up about it, I enjoy it, but I say to myself, “Tomorrow, I will exercise and eat well.” We hate weighing ourselves, so how should we be measuring our progress? I’m so glad you hate the “sad step”, too. For those who don’t know, that’s what I call the bathroom scales – those little numbers create nothing but misery. Instead take photos of yourself and measure your waist, your hips, thighs and arms, then do it again every few weeks. It’s a much more rewarding way to track results. How long will it be until we start seeing our banging new bod? People who follow my 90-day plan see real results after 30 days, based on exercising four to five times a week and eating three delicious meals and two snacks a day. People want to look amazing straight away, but changing your body is about changing your habits. Do you want to get drunk three nights a week, or do you want to go to the gym three nights a week? Do you want to eat takeaways every weekend, or do you want to buy some nice ingredients and make yourself a delicious lunch and dinner? It’s about choice. n Joe Wicks – Lean In Fifteen Workouts is available now on DVD and digital download. His book The Fat-Loss Plan (Pan Macmillan, £16.99) is out now

the lid off for 15 minutes, or until the quinoa tails sprout. 2. Add the oats and 80ml water to the pan and cook for about 10 minutes, uncovered, until thick and porridge-like. Add more water if it becomes too thick. Meanwhile, make a quick berry compote by adding the berries to a pan with 1tsp of water. 3. Simmer for 4-5 minutes, covered. Mix well and mash with a fork until the berries have broken down. 4. Mix half the compote with the porridge and divide between two bowls. Drizzle over the rest of the compote. 5. Party time in Ibiza

Which trip changed your life? My first-ever proper work trip abroad to Brazil when I was 18, to cover the 2014 World Cup. I was there for two months and it was a turning point in my career. Who would be your ideal holiday companion? Probably my mum. She can look after me when she needs to, but she’s still up for partying and having a dance and a drink. She’s like a more excitable version of me. If you could go on holiday tomorrow, where would you go? I really want to go to Bali, mainly because of what I’ve seen on Instagram. I love the idea of being outdoors and seeing the waterfalls with all that nice greenery around. Can you give us an insider travel tip from your home town? You need to go to the Downs on a cold, clear day. It’s a massive green area and you can see the whole of Bristol from up there. ■

Download Maya’s podcast When Life Gives You Melons by Freya Lingerie, which is available now

What’s been your biggest holiday fail?

Ouch.

I went to Ayia Napa when I was 17 to host the first-ever Fire On The Beach for 1Xtra, where they have all these MCs come over and perform. The night before the actual show, I tripped on the strip, ripped a tendon in my foot and cut the whole bottom of my foot open. I ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of the trip (left).

#73

Where’s the best place you’ve travelled with boyfriend Stormzy?

Where is the coolest Airbnb you have stayed? Ibiza, right in front of the beach. It was all white inside – we were scared to get any dirt on the floors. What three things do you always pack in your suitcase? Hair straighteners, because humidity is out to get me most of the time. An adaptor is key, too. And my headphones. I use in-ear ones, because other kinds are massive and they ruin my hair. What is the weirdest thing you’ve put in your mouth while on holiday? In Sweden, they’ve got this thing called “sil”, which is basically raw fish in brine. It sounds absolutely disgusting, but it’s really nice. You can get it in Ikea. What was your best holiday for #Instagoals? South Africa. I did all the best things that you can do – I went to Johannesburg, Cape Town and toured around. We went to the best animal reserve and I also swam with sharks. That was crazy, as we got so close to them. They look exactly like they look on TV.

T

V comedies famously take time to get going. Classics like Seinfeld and Parks And Recreation were slow starters, and even Only Fools And Horses was a bit drab and workman-like until it really took off in its third series. So, it’s a bit of a miracle when a sitcom arrives fully formed, with a tone and cast so confident, it feels like it’s been around for years and that we know these characters like old chums. Derry Girls, which has just started its six-part run on Channel 4, is that show. Based on writer Lisa McGee’s own childhood, it’s set in Northern Ireland in the early ’90s when terrorism was still a big issue, but it treats that little matter with wry off-handedness. It’s really about the no-nonsense friendship between a group of teenage girls, led by SaoirseMonica Jackson’s Erin, as they try to cope with school life, harsh nuns, and even harsher family

members. McGee pulls off the cunning trick of giving us a gaggle of well-defined characters without any of them coming across as stereotypes, and her dialogue is both whip-smart and totally believable. The whole ensemble is perfectly cast, but my favourites so far are Siobhan McSweeney’s headmistress Sister Michael, whose deadpan disdain for pretty much everything and everyone she encounters is endlessly funny, and Dylan Llewellyn’s sad sap James – not just the lone English pupil at the school, but also the only male. He’s the brunt of so many perfectly timed jokes, yet his beautifully modulated reactions rarely rise above mild hurt. Until, that is, he’s faced with the unbearable greasiness of the local chippie in episode two and unleashes a glorious rant. I hope he and the Derry Girls are around for many years to come.

Everything ents that gets a big yes from us this week

BRITANNIA

SKY ATLANTIC & NOW TV, THURSDAY 18 JANUARY, 9PM

O

pening with a powerfully nasty scene in which Roman General Aulus Plautius (the superbly charismatic David Morrissey) is being very horrid indeed to some of his less enthusiastic troops, this epic new drama, set during the Roman invasion of Britain in 43AD, is another big, bold and maverick series from Sky Atlantic, which they’re also making available as a nine-episode box set as soon as the opener arrives next Thursday.

MEET THE TRIBES

Co-creator Jez Butterworth – who helped pen the screenplays of the last few Bond films, as well as writing such superb plays as The Ferryman, currently wowing audiences in the West End – has admitted that very little is really known about what was going on in ancient Britain at this time. So he’s taken the opportunity to create a densely layered backdrop to the Roman invasion, peopled by warring tribes called the Cantii and the Regni, while the Druids act as a kind of spiritual police force. For some reason, everyone takes these mystical gurus very seriously indeed – even the Romans – which might explain why their first www.heatworld.com 13-19 January 2018

attempt to invade Britannia, 100 years previously, was swiftly aborted.

ROMAN INVASION

The action moves between the Romans as they arrive in this hostile alien land, and the indigenous tribes, who we get to know mainly by observing their peculiar customs. In the opening episode, we meet Cait (Eleanor Worthington-Cox), a young Cantii, who is about to undergo a rite of passage in which she moves from girl to woman. Unfortunately for her, this key moment clashes with the invasion by 20,000 Roman soldiers, and her day goes very pear-shaped. With its arresting visuals, a glorious ensemble cast of Brits in meaty roles, and its depiction of power battles between and within warring factions, the series has a certain Game Of Thrones-y quality to it. But it’s also very much its own thing. And totally, unashamedly, bonkers. HHHH Boyd Hilton

Do you have a say in whose house you go to? I’m given a list, and I tick and cross. How long do you spend in each house? And do you sniff their sheets? I’m there all day. You’d fink I’d be a sheet sniffer, but I’m not mad. I do the job and try to get out before the owner comes back. Whose house has been the nicest/ messiest/ smelliest? There’s a house in the series I really liked. Their back garden was like a water park. Can’t say who it was though. Other than that, I did like Jack Osbourne’s house a few series ago. It was lovely. I’d live there. What’s been the funniest moments in the houses? In this series, I recreate a scene from a movie one of the home owners was in. I also got involved with some Mexican gangster dudes. Oh, and I present an awards show from someone’s living room, and do a talk show. Do you still get naked in everyone’s houses?

www.heatworld.com 13-19 January 2018

Sometimes. Talk us through some of these houses you’ve been to: David Dickinson… David Dickinson’s was exactly how you expect it to be. Filled with lovely old fings. Although a bit minimalist upstairs. Charlotte Crosby? She lived with her parents back then. Nice! It was a bit like a house from the old soap opera Brookside. Jamie Laing? His was like a posh student flat.

What about Gemma Collins? Fake tan stains on t’ toilet seat. Other than that, pleasant. If we saw inside Keith Lemon’s house would it be obvious because you have boobs for a sofa and a willy for a TV? I don’t have any boob or willy furniture. It’s pretty stylish. Still t’ same as it was on me reality show I did, Lemon La Vida Loca . Ya see a bit of it on me new show out next year, called Keith Lemon Coming in America .

THE PLOT Frustrated by the lack of progress solving the rape and murder six months ago of her teenage daughter, feisty small-town divorcee Mildred (McDormand) rents the titular advertising hoardings to challenge the local police chief (Harrelson). A spiralling conflict with a redneck cop (Rockwell) who reveals hidden depths ensues. WHAT’S RIGHT WITH IT? As might be expected from the writer-director of In Bruges, McDonagh’s latest is powered by razor-sharp, blackly comic dialogue, and the cast is sheer perfection. Also, less expected from this filmmaker, real emotional depth. WHAT’S WRONG WITH IT? That combo of comedy with flashes of brutal violence won’t suit all tastes. ver the past three seasons, we’ve followed the friendship of Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin): two women who were once sworn enemies, but found common ground after their husbands turned out to be gay and went off together. It’s no coincidence that Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman also co-created this, because both shows deal with people finding new definitions of family in the modern age. And this season, there’s an even more obvious crossover thanks to guest star Lisa Kudrow, who pops up as Sheree, Grace’s long-time manicurist. Grace’s new-found friendship with Sheree throws a spanner in the works between her and Frankie, and we can’t wait to see how this new “friend triangle” plays out. HHHH Jason Arnopp

The Wave

W, Monday 15 Jan, 8pm

A

nother week, another water-based game show, this time hosted by the ever-entertaining Rylan Clark-Neal. One cushty contestant remains with Rylan in his Portuguese beach bar, sipping cocktails, while their partner braves the Atlantic Ocean and swims to six pontoons, each containing increasing amounts of cash and a question with two possible answers. The wrong answer = 1kg weight attached to the poor bugger’s belt; the right answer = major spondoolicks – but only if they return to their land-lubber partner in time. Exhausting stuff. ★★★★ Kay Ribeiro

A quickie with... Rylan Clark-Neal Tell us about The Wave… “Come to Portugal!” they said. “You’ll be working on the beach! What a great gig!” It’s been thick fog and storms since we got here! But it makes the show a lot more exciting. We’ve got pairs taking part – I’m on the beach with one of them who is answering questions, and the other is in the sea swimming further out to various floats against the clock, and the further they go, the more money they have a chance of winning. But for each question their partner gets wrong, they get a heavy bag of rocks attached to their swimming belt. It’s savage. How dangerous is it really? I was whispering to the big bosses that maybe we’d need secret jets under the water to make the sea rough, but the waves are huge. We have paramedics here, and it takes the swimmers a long time to recover when they get out of the water. We can’t help but notice all the swimmers are totally buff… We just rounded up all of the Love Island rejects.

No, there’s no way we could put a mediocre swimmer in the Atlantic Ocean and just hope they make it back, so they’re all extremely sporty. We’ve had days where the sea is perfect, and then within ten minutes, the mist comes in and you can’t see a hand in front of your face. It’s so unpredictable. We’re disappointed you’re not dressed in a Baywatch outfit… They wanted that, but I had to put my foot down. Soz, babes, not happening. I’m not getting in the water, either – I’d die. Did you do any pre-beach workouts before you started? I’m not a gym person at all. I’ve got a gym at home, but I’ve only been in there once to get a Lucozade. Are you not an action man? I’m good at DIY – I’m the one in our house who puts up the shelves. But unless it’s a drone shot of me looking beautiful and standing frozen but pretending to run in the sunset, then no way. 13-19 January 2018 www.heatworld.com

This epic adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel about a freaky supernatural shape-shifting clown terrorising the local kids in an American small town is the most successful horror film of all time at

the box office, and no wonder. Its genius marketing campaign made great use of the horrible clown imagery (making it seem slightly scarier than it really is), while the film itself is as much of a coming-of-age adventure as it is

a downright horror story. Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard steals the film as Richie, member of the self-styled “Losers’ Club” of teens trying to find out what the hell is going on. ★★★★ Boyd Hilton

One of the weirder films of 2017, this US Indie effort is considered by some to be a masterpiece. After his death in a car crash, Casey Affleck’s character proceeds to haunt his wife (Rooney Mara) in their home with a white sheet over his head. Watch out for the extraordinary uninterrupted four-minute shot of Mara eating a chocolate pie. ★★★★ Liam Wright

Josh Hartnett must have had a gruelling time filming this intense survival drama, in which he plays a snowboarder who goes way off piste and ends up stranded on a mountain in the middle of the world’s worst snowstorm. He faces wolves, extreme cold and even ends up naked. Although for many that will be the main reason to see the film. ★★★ Liam Wright

We’re always banging on about this comedy panel show being one of the best things on TV, which it undoubtedly is. But even if you’ve thus far resisted our advice to watch it, this week’s episode is even better than usual because it features a truly marvellous moment involving Judge Robert Rinder. We shall say no more so as not to spoil it, but the other guests are Denise Lewis, Richard Osman and Katherine Ryan. HHHHH Boyd Hilton

BBC2, Tuesday 16 January, 10pm

Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton set themselves another cunning challenge with this week’s episode of their stupendous anthology series by telling the story backwards, scene by scene. It works brilliantly, adding to the general tone of enigmatic dark humour, so you only work out what’s going on towards the end. It seems like a tale of house-moving, estate agents and such, but there’s more to it than that. Emilia Fox and Monica Dolan star and are both great. HHHHH Boyd Hilton

ne of the hardest TV genres to get right is the comedy crime caper, but this show, written by Lloyd Woolf and Joe Tucker, now reaching its third and final series, is a pretty great example of how to do it. It all began when our heroines Leanne (Kerry Howard from Him And Her and Young Hyacinth) and Rhona (Zoe Boyle off Downton Abbey and Frontier) witnessed a gangland shooting in their hometown of Bristol and were forced into witness protection, given new identities and moved to a grubby flat in Swindon. Leanne proceeded to get romantically involved with hot student Patrick (Samuel Anderson), but he only embroiled them further in the criminal underworld, while the brilliantly funny gun-toting teen DJ Sound as F*** (Nicholas Fruin) tried to track down the girls. As series three (available as a five-episode box set or else showing on Friday nights on BBC1) kicks off, Leanne and Rhona’s bold attempt to frame enemy Willy Whelan has backfired, with Rhona trapped in Willy’s secret weapons room, while Leanne is cornered by DJ Sound as F***. RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL, 2001

When Liam and Noel were mad fer it always had plenty of comebacks for Noel. On their unique relationship, he was once quoted as saying, “I like Noel outside the band. Human Noel – that’s my brother. I f**king adore him and I’d do anything for him. But the geezer that’s in this f***ing business, he’s one of the biggest cocks in the universe.” Fortunately, after years of being estranged, the future is looking rosy, with Liam recently tweeting, “Happy Xmas to team NG” and telling fans that the brothers are “all good again”. Oasis reunion 2018, lads?

REX/SHUTTERSTOCK

The poster boys for sibling rivalry, Noel and Liam Gallagher have had one of the best-documented feuds in the history of British music. The brothers performed harmoniously in Brit pop band Oasis for… well, let’s say a couple of years. Here, seen enjoying time off on tour, is probably one of the calmer days in the band’s history. Oasis was plagued with fights, arrests and controversy until things finally reached a head in 2009, and Noel quit the band, explaining, “I could not go on working with Liam a day longer.” Never one to mince his words, Liam
