his Spanish Pavilion is aim to exploit the cultural hybridization as a central them in Spanish pavilion. Spanish culture developed from the hybridization of JewishChristian and islamic cultures. And in both islamic and christian background, arched, vaults, lattices and traceries are dynamic characteristics. These elements are take into as the inspiration of this project. This is reminds me the importance of background and surrounding environment of project should be fully considered.

or the research field of part B, I choose Spanish pavilion 2005 World Expo as a specific project, which based on patterning. The architects of this pavilion aims to create a hexagonal patterning for different facade by using different layer of color and hollow cut. This case study gives me the inspiration that is not necessary for our project to be flat and using unique tone. Project can be decorated by varies color to create the sense of layering and also gradient effect.

Since the definition is already been provided, so I analyzed the definition, and I found out for providing more possibilities, it using more complex system instead to simple hexagon grid components. The length of each side can be changed, so it helps to get ride of the limitation of regular hexagon. So it contains much more potential to develop the further intergration.

SELECTED CRITERIA -SUCCESSFUL ITERATION ATTRACTOR SYSTEM: Attractor system is a single point or multiple point or curve can affect the nearest parts. It contains great potential for my futher design. Atrractor points works best in spanish pavilion, cause it keeps the overal in integrity.

R ANDOM REDUCTION: Using the component of random reduction to create a patten with some missing parts. The idea i get inspired form the apanish pavilion, if there are some parts missing, and missing holes replaced by other materials, the overal faced will provides different feeling to users.h

E XTRUSION LENGTH: The length of extrusion controled by multiple interference lines. Directions also can be changed though these lines. Varies fo shapes can be created by extrusion length which is really helpful for my futher design. The main idea is extrusion lenghth is creating the sense of layering which is my main concern of my final proposal. Also, it could be applied to roof system to see the changes

DESIGN POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF ITERATIVE EXPLORATION:

the exercise of creating variety of species enhanced my ability to adpt the paterning skiils and have more depth understanding of parametric. Although this design is already restricted by exisiting algrothm, it still requires critical decision and thinking as to what choice to make.

EXPLORATION:

SELECTION CRETERIA IN RELATION TO DESIGN INTENT (2 attempts) :

By testing and experencing the parametric, simple modification allows for vast and unexpected geometric outcoming. It helps me to adpt the patterning techniques used for further ceiling design and manipulate the variable to enlarge the possibilities for pattern design.

attempt 1: I am aim to create a pattening from that severies as a ditration device, and these patterns should generaly be simple, also increasing the complexity by layering. Aesthtic of evocarive properties shoule be placed in priority, also attempt 2ďźš By taking the characyeristic of repeating in general patterning topic, to create a project to use same pattern to repeat but with different size. he aim of the design of this facade is to define the silk undulating in the wind- a sign of its past, and also emphasis the contours, by using parametric design. Brick is the main material composition, rotate to different directions to form the specific texture of the wall.

really like the experience that created by the wall. This house previous used for store fabrics, have almost been abandoned an dilapidated. Redecoration gives the new meaning for it and also achieve the effect of recycling. The different angles in surface allows the different light intake which can creates varies types of shadow. Also, movement of each single brick provides the sense of fluidness for users. It gives some hint about our ceiling product, it is very hard to manipulate with joints and structure to make the real movement, but can be given the

B.4 Technique Development

At this stage, i have developed few techniques which are all have the potential to create a large number of different patterning with different arrangement. Box morph and meteball are the most interesting two techniques, however, the transformation of metaball seems like unsuitable for my further design purpose and it is very hard for fabrication. My design purpose generally based on layering so i mainly focus on length extrusion, attractor system and box morph as well.

For case study two, in the process of combining original definition of AU office and other specific defenitions, i have faced lots of problems. Most of them leads by the mismatch of data, so it is very necessary knowing how to use panel to check out the accuracy of data.

For the future design, i will keeping working with these techniques and take the real site analyse as one of my consideration, in order to finally come up with a design that both suit for previous purpose and futher site purpose.

SELECTED CRITERIAL

BOX MORPH: Using the new definition of box morph to manipulate with original data. Box morph transformation based on the shape of surface, which means i should extract the lines from wall surface and set to the initial geometry in box morph defenition. I have used pyramid, torus, amd also cublod as their basic geometry. Outcomes of box morph

METABALL: When the imput of slides is small, metaball basically comes with the shape of burble. Once the slide number in creasing, each burble mutual integrated, so some unexoected shapes can be creates. However, do to the issue of fabrication, limitaion of materials and also based on the consideration of layering, metaball cannot perfectably match my design purpose.

MATERIAL DECISION MAKING:

LIMITATION OF MATERIAL:

The shape of my firsrt case is honeycomb, so it reminds me of the nature element. As our site is a ballroom in W hotel, so it requires for some high textual quality material. Timber veneer is the first material that comes to my mind. Timber veneer is orgainic and ecp-friendly, which perfect match my point in part A. Also, as the consideration of the big size of ball room, the material should be easily accessed and contains moderate cost. Under these considerations, we use two colours of timber veenr as our material of prototype.

In the processing of material testing, our initial idea is to bend every piece into four directions, which is the shape of flowers. Unfortunately, due to the natural texture of timber, we was unable to achieve the previous goal. So we follow the growth direction to bend the timber veneer, and it ends in good geometry.

MATERIAL TESTING: There are 6 pictures in the left, it showing the process that we manipulate the shapes of timber venner. We produced several shapes in rhino, by chging the cuting length of each side in order to control the curvature of the timber venner. and then laser cut them to se

B.7 LEARNING OUTCOME

During the reasearch not only from the grasshopper but also for the patterning. I enhanced my knowlege about the designing world.

Also, in the presentation, i got to know always prepare for everthing in advance and always showing others the most fablous work.

Computation is mommonly used in architecture designing.By using computaion program, designer enable to find more possibilities of design form. I think reverse engineering is the most useful part for me, cause once we practice enough we can really learn the skills and create something new.

I think the techniques for patterning is helpful for my future design. The knowlege i know isnt the knowlege itselfs, but the way we how to gather new imformation and analyse them to make the new design.
