MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT

How to draw a croissant 2

MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT

In order to draw one to one croissant, firstly, I took some photos in different perspectives and cut it into four parts. Then I scanned them. I used Photoshop to match the scale referring to scanned size and adjusted the levels and contrast. Then I printed it out in one to one proportion to prepare to draw. This is my first time to use the Photoshop. In this experience, I learned how to make the photo more attractive and clear.

How to draw a Croissant? After printing a photographed croissant out, firstly, I used masking tape to fix the four corners of the paper( it can ensure that the place will not move during drawing). Then I placed a tracing paper on it. The outline of my printed croissant will be clear to recognise on tracing paper. According to the different shades on it, I used HB, 2B, 4B and 6B respectively to draw.

Axonometric drawing is a new drawing technique that I learned, which can reveal more than one side on one object drawing. In order to draw it, firstly, I rotated my drawing at 45 degrees and overlaid a new tracing paper on it. Then I used the section cut line on the plan as a guide project lines upwards every 10 mm apart. And drawing lines at 45 degrees at 10 mm apart vertically to construct a grid the same as my section, using the section as a guide mark on the intersection points. Finally, I joined these points to depict the section outline of my croissant.

NEW MARIO WORLD The making of new Mario world: This is my Mario illustration, where I created two different worlds. The first world is peaceful and the second one is evil and turbulent, which is divided by a river in middle. In order to identify the differences between the positive and negative world, I added some characters who have various implications. From the illustration, we can see a Mario is wrestling with a monster and he is trying to run towards another peaceful world. The corpse flowers and beans beside stairs indicate that he runs from the evil to justice. What’s more, damaged castle presents the chaotic world. In contrast, I also depicted an abundant and friendly world in another side, where contains some coins and stars, which insinuates that as long as you explore your world and work hard, you can obtain them in return. The reason why I drew such things is that in our world, there are still some conflicts, such as inner conflicts, racial conflicts and social conflicts etc. And we are all like that Mario who desires living in a peaceful world and is trying to escaping from the negative world. Thus, through this two contradictory world, I would like to appeal to peace and put aside our prejudice and wrong beliefs to positively pursue a balanced life under the pressure like Mario in this illustration.

Projection one: Firstly, I rotated the paper at 45 degrees. Then I overlaid a tracing paper on it. Both tracing paper and printed Mario world were fixed by masking tapes. Next, setting up a 200 plus 200 mm square in the middle of my A3 paper as a reference. It will be easy, that I started from back world. So I used a 45 degrees set square project world lines forward into the square.

Projection two: After finishing the first world, I set up my second Mario world 200 mm apart on a diagonal from my first world. Then I repeated the same thing as doing the first one.

PAPER LANDSCAPE The making of new landscape: The inspiration of making this terrain is based on the tree. I designed a big tree in centre and some small valleys and mountains surround it, which are represented by 3D elements. There are some different patterns on the top of my 3D patterns. The element like star reflects the star on sky and the pentagonal elements symbolize volcanos. I also used some 2D elements to represent rivers through the valleys and mountains. My terrain has a big slope at the beginning and a little wave in the end of the corner. So I designed different height in my 3D patterns to represent it. And I also used some sophisticated 3D patterns to represent the different symbolizations on my terrain. In order to avoid them overlapping, firstly I exploded them then I added tabs on it. What’s more, by utilizing triangular mesh, it can embody the different direction of river flow and its distributions. I am trying to fold all patterns in a good performance, however, due to the complicated patterns folding lines and time limits, some of shapes of my designed patterns are not good.

Four 3D custom models: This four different patterns prepared to make 3D terrain.

Whole 3D image: This is my 3D image before I removing a half of my 3D patterns. In total, I used four different models to fill my 10 by 10 terrain. By using a curve attract techniques, the surface of this panel has a different height and becomes up and down.

Whole 2D image: This is a integrated 2D pattern that is made by triangular mesh. After that, I will delete some of them and combine it with my 3D terrain.

Bottom view close up of final model According to the numbers and folding lines on the back of unfolding papers, I could easily recognise the position of each pattern and how can I fold them. What is more, the tabs on it can help me to join them.

Final 2D and 3D terrain: This is my final combined terrain. I will respectively transform them into unfolding to print them out for my physical model.

INVISIBLE CITY Cities & Desire 2: AnAstAsiA

Cities and Desire 2: Anastasia What are you trying to show through your project? [75-120 words]

In the city of Anastasia, the concentrate canals are around it and kites flying over it. There are some wares and pheasant selling in there. Some women are in the pool who desires the strangers to disrobe with them. However, when you at the centre of the city, you will be driven by desire. No desire is lost in the city. Some desires are good, some are negative, which are decided by people themselves. Once, you choose the negative desire, it will master you. Anastasia is a city, where is full of desires. So, I used fire and the light to insinuate this idea. I divided the city into two different parts(malignant and benign). The story mentions that people can easily buy wares. I used circle to represent people around the market. Sellers stare people and feel happy with earning money. Sometimes people may change their mind and gradually desire something bad. So I added a person with depressed mood towards the bad side of the city. What is more, I also used some arrows that represents the direction of people’s movement. In the bad side of the city, people always feel depressed to desire some unpractical things.

Perspective scene 1(positive desires): In Anastasia, people are controlled by desire. So, I depicted two different desires in my two scenes. In this perspective, by using bright light and the scenery in outside to indicate the positive desire in my scene 1. In my perspective 1, I added two girl who are looking at other kids flying a kite in outside of the old quad, which represents the desire of free. What is more, I added a seller who stands beside his Goods to stare at three women in the front of him, which is a kind of desire of earning money. And there is a woman who stands in the positive side but she is looking towards the another evil side, which connects two scenes and means the unpredictable desires in this city. In addition, I added elements like fire and drop light to also insinuate desire.

Perspective scene 2 (negative desires):

In this perspective scene, I wanted to show something negative. So the light of scenery and background is darker than scene 1. The story said that when you are in the heart of Anastasia, your desires waken all at once and surround you. As can be seen that in the left( the centre of the city), I placed a woman who just awakens, which insinuates that her desires awakens at the same time when she gets up. What is more, there are some women swimming in pool who wants to invite the stranger man beside them. In addition, the reason why I used the same decoration in my two scenes is that in this city, people are both driven by desires, however, the choices is mastered by people’s own beliefs. Thus, I did not change the decorative style of the whole city, just changing the scenery in outside to reflect the bad and good desires in people’s mind.

REFLECTION

This subject teaches many representation techniques, such as axonometric drawing. And from the lecture, I can watch some great examples and review the concepts via quiz. In addition, I also learn how to use some practical software such as Rhino, Illustrator, Photoshop and so on. It is very important for us using them to represent and express our designs. During the process of using software, there are always some problems like missing photos in PDF, saving as wrong file format in Illustration. Whereas, with more and more practices, the problems are solved. There are some regrets in making my module 3. Due to the complicated folding lines, the shapes of my module look a little bit messy. So I need to improve my folding techniques. BY looking others’ module in exhibition, it inspires me to design more interesting patterns rather than using the shape in tool bar and shows me how to improve my details of the modules. So I use glue to close some gaps between the connection of each pattern and take some new photos to show my details. In module 1 and 2, I use Photoshop to clean smear on my hand-drawing. In module 4, I add some colors in my isometric view to make my symbols clear. Overall, in module 1, I learn how to use the Photoshop to improve my photos and utilize axonometric drawing techniques to present more than one side on one drawing paper; In module 2, Illustrator is an another software been used. I learn what is the vector diagram and how to fill color in my hand-drawing; In module 3, some techniques of making models have been learnt; An in module 4, by utilizing three of these software, I try to design a city.
