WEEK 3 READING: TITLE OF READING

Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words) For Le Corbusier, pictorial space is “only as the fruition of a lived perspective”, which means that it cannot be entered or circulated through; it is irremediably space viewed from a distance, and is therefore eternally resigned to frontality. So we cannot change, enter or manipulate it.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words) The two properties are frontality and rotation. Le Corbusier mentions that “upon the rigid frontality of all objects experienced is from a distance, and further”. The combined frontality and distance clearly show an understanding of the object. The comparison between frontality and rotation is the same as the contrast between ideation and experience.

WEEK 4 READING: TITLE OF READING Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words) Perspective is not as the natural outcome of version and the space is limited in two dimension. Projection is infinite and its vanishing points are unlimited as well. Thus projection is in the three-dimensional space and more present as representation than as experience.

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words) The origin of Axonometric is in ancient visual practices. The earliest systematic description of its occurs in military context, where it was originally used to chart the three-dimensional trajectories of artillery projectiles. It has an accurate measurement in military.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD

This is my Mario illustration, where I create two different world. The first world is peaceful and the second one is evil and turbulent. In order to identify the differences between the positive and negative world, I add some characters who have various implications. From the illustration, we can see a Mario is wrestling with a monster and he is trying to run towards another peaceful world. And the corpse flowers and beans beside stairs that he runs indicate the evil and justice. What’s more, damaged castle also present the chaotic world. It is worth mentioning that the river divides the whole illustration into two worlds. In contrast, I depict an abundant and friendly world in another side, that contains some coins and stars, which insinuates that as long as you explore your world and work hard, you can obtain them in return. The reason why I draw such things is that in our world, there are still some conflicts, such as inner conflicts, racial conflicts and social conflicts etc. And we are all like that Mario who desires living in a peaceful world and is trying to escaping from the negative world. Thus, through this two contradictory world, I would like to appeal to peace and put aside our prejudice and wrong beliefs to positively pursue a balanced life under the pressure like Mario in this illustration.

WRONG DRAFT IN FORMER

This image is also the axonometric projection for the back of my Mario world. However, the layout of those columns is a little problem that I have no extra space to add some characters on the tracing paper.

This is the formerly wrong combined Mario world. Due to the unreasonable layout in former, there is no more spaces for me to depict an interesting Mario world.
