Living In USA – What To Do After Dog Bites – Part 2 jiezhengdigital.com /living-in-usa-what-to-do-after-dog-bites-part-2 Jie ZHENG Posted by Jie ZHENG on October 14, 2016 in Living in USA | 0 comments I want to give you update about that story, which I posted last month ( http://jiezhengdigital.com/livinginusa).

I sent the text messages 2 times to the dog owner on Sept. 19 and 27, also tried to call her, she did not reply my texts or calls. I do not like people not reply me for any reason. It is my business habit. When customer sends me email or ask me anything, I usually reply within 24 hours. Not it is possible that I reply a bit later, still it is a habit for me to reply any one as soon as I am available.

I checked with my apartment office manager A. She said that I might need to go to Dutch Fork Magistrate Office. I did not like this idea. While I knew that if I do go to court, I need to have some complete report. I had partial report, just not sure if there was anything else new. On Sept. 30, I sent one email to ask Richland County Ombudsman’s Office for a complete report.

Then, one day in the coming week, I decided to Magistrate office. The main reason I went to the office was I never went there before, I would like to know what kind of help I could get from there. I was told that if to file the case, I need to pay USD80 first, then I need to print out all the report. At that moment, I just knew that could be a start to sue. I saw the forms. They looked a bit familiar, because I saw similar ones for my divorce issue. I really did not want to go that far. I did not want to spend my time on those things. Right now, my shot and the medicine that I paid from my pocket was USD 57.28. How ridiculous it is to sue someone for something like this. Before I left, I was told that I could sue them within 3 years from the day this thing happened.

I came home. I did not know what to do. So I put it aside.

Last week, one morning in the parking lot, I met with a gym friend M. He felt some painful and he could not run. We talked for a few minutes. He wanted to join my morning walk. I mentioned about the dog bite issue and the owner. They just live closeby. M said he did not mind going there with me, checking when they could reimburse me. I said okay. The lady’s husband answered the door. It was around 9:30 am. Apparently, we could wake them up. He told me that she was going to pay me on the next Monday. We left.

This Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 11, after afternoon walk, I received the owner’s text. She told me that the money order

was ready. That was nice. Sometimes you get the answer when you least expect. I went to their house to get it. There went out a nice looking young lady, dressed in red and tight, that was her daughter. She handed me over that money order with a bit pride. She did not say sorry. She just told me not to bring any stranger to their house in future. They only knew about me. They never saw that man walking around the neighborhood. She could call the policeman on that day. I said at least two times of sorry before I left.

On the way home, I was a bit down. I felt there is so much I do not know about this country or understand people here. I cried when I came home. I sent several texts to apologize to that owner. While I cried, I suddenly understood myself better. I do not like myself hurt people or I do any wrong behavior. I am a bit hard on myself. When it comes to manner, I just have to do the best every day. That is my standard on myself.

In many cases, people here are nice to me. There is always a lot to learn about people, special when I am living in a country with so many immigrants or foreigners, plus the variety of local people. I told myself, just to talk and communicate with love and understanding. All will be good. How is your life living in the USA? Hope to hear stories or comments from you!
