One man called Jérôme VERDESI is important in my life. His company was our customer while I worked for my former boss. That is a French customer with reputation. Their work is organized, strict and consistent. Before I met him, I already liked him. One day, we finally met at the factory. I do not remember which year, I would say it was between 2004 and 2006. From the moment I saw him, I decided to do better at my job. I decided to have a better attitude. He took out some notebook, some pen and took notes carefully. Right now, this picture seems so usual. While at the moment, something touched me, it was called “attitude”. That was the moment I had a better understanding about this word. That was the moment I know I want to improve myself. Let me go back a bit earlier. I was hired by my former boss. My position was like a clerk. Some guy taught me how to make documents. His name is B.Gao. My job was to make the documents that go with the order. In another words, I prepared a set of documents for the corresponding order. Those documents include commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, mill test certificate. I also need to review the Bill of Lading, insurance policy. These documents could be for bank or sent directly to the customer. Mr. Gao would request me to check and review the documents in consistency. It was not a fun job. It requested me to check carefully. Any discrepancy was not allowed, special when the documents were with L/C requirement. I learned quickly and did well. I guess the most important thing for that job was you need to have the inner peace when you work and check those boring sentences. If you cannot be quiet and sit there, if you want to rush it, you would end up with more mistakes. That was the secret to make the documents in consistency. If the documents are requested by Letter of credit, you better learn something about INCOTERMS UCP500. I later learned to be a valve sale. I did not need to look for valve customers at the beginning, just dealt with enquiries and quotations. Every day, there was always something new coming up, I mean, new problems. At first, when I got to the office, I said, “I wish today was a quiet day”. Many days, it did not go that way. Sometimes, I was happy when it was an easy day. I got used to it. Then I thought, “Let me find out what is new (problem) today.” I gradually changed my thought, “you know what, I am just going to deal with whatever it comes.” I did not know what was going to happen before I got to the office, while those emails with problems did not bother me, because they just showed up whether I like them or not. Once I changed my thought, I was okay with any problems. I know I could handle. I actually felt joy when I solved the problems. I worked. I helped the customers and the suppliers. I started working with Mr. Jérôme VERDESI and his company. Their requirements were a lot. My workmates, special Peter, and I translated many documents in those days. Because I learned and decided to have a better working attitude, I thought differently. I did not complain about those translations. It was not easy, while I learned a lot about valve language. I was not a complaint type person, if I have the moments to complain, I would already have done some part. That was how I see it till today. Yes, time. Whether I like it or not, it is there waiting for me to do. If I cannot change it, I could change my attitude and find something enjoyable inside that thing.

Pretty much you could apply this similar thought to everything you do. Many things I do, I know I do not start from loving them. I start from doing something, and then learn to love what I am doing. I remember, I read some article either last year or the year before last, someone talked about a topic: "What do you think what makes success?" They talked about many words. Guess what? Success = Attitude. This is how it comes. You think “a, b, c, d….z” equal to “1,2,3,4….26”. Now, check this: Attitude, 1 + 20 + 20 + 9 + 20 +21+4 +5 = 100. If you do not believe it, please come up with different words and play this game. Is it “courage”? Is it "belief"? From that day, I confirm, attitude is everything. Watch your attitude, if you so much desire for success and commit to the best version of yourself! That is how I told myself. Do you think attitude is everything? Please share with me your thoughts!
