NYC/New York City Trip of 2015 – Part 1 I gave myself a gift last year, which was a New York City Trip… Now, I am going to share with you my journey.
Sept. 3, 2015 – Day 1
I slept after 1:00, woke up at 3:20 am? Ate orange, prepared bagel, croissant, apple, egg, avocado, grape. Took the rest orange, lime, apple, avocado with me. 4:20 am, left home. I drove to G’s by 4:40. She quickly came out, I could tell she was sleepy. She drove me to airport.
1/8
6:25am CAE to DC. $25, one luggage check in. Flight US3985, seat 10C. I met with C. I enjoyed talking with her. She is on way to Columbus? for her cousin’s wedding on weekend.
After I got to DC airport, I went to buy myself a cup of coffee, USD2.52 at Dunkin donuts. I ate my food. Then, 09:55 to 11:15, flight AA4356 from DC to JFK.
It took me about half an hour to check out. JFK is huge.
It took me about 1 hour to take air train. I bought USD32, subway 7 days unlimited; $8 air thain-wrong, the person helped me hit wrong button; I had to buy another one..$11 airtrain – 2 rounds.
12:45 pm subway train A from JFK to #175 st, took about 1.5 hours.
Got to Lori’s apartment. (Lori’s apartment in Manhattan) It was easy to find. She called me on the way. I called her when I got out of subway. Saw the buildings after I got out of subway. They are so pretty. I know I am in big city. My heart is happy.
The apartment I was going to stay is located in one old building. I love the old style.
Lori was at home waiting for me. The apartment has a great view. High way is beside. Road/street is beside. I can see Hudson River easily and George Washington Bridge is close by. After settled down, I went out. Lori gave me some brochure. She printed out some places that I could go. I was thinking to go to the Cloisters. But then I saw it was about usd 25 and the time was after 3pm. I was thinking which place should be my first place in NYC. Then I thought about central park. Subway A, got to #59 st., Columbus circle. After I got out of subway, I was surprised to see the big buildings. I took pictures and saw the Trump international hotel. It is in Golden color. I think Mr. Trump lives at the very top. I went to Central Park. I saw some stall and wanted to buy something to eat. I was hungry. But I did not buy. I went inside the park. I was so excited that I finally came to the famous central park. Many people were there, jogging, running, walking. I went to a playground, 2/8
sitting on the swing. I later walked a while and found a place to read. I fell asleep. When I was about to leave, I found I lost my subway ticket. I walked back to subway and knew that I could ask for refund if I filled out something and mailed them. I bought another 7 unlimited subway card, $32. (Note: I did not get the refund, it was lost, probably was used)
Walked out of the subway station, I decided to just walk around this area. I saw some church, some university, some nice buildings. Later, I took subway back to 175#. Walked around and decided to eat some Mexican food, like a fast food place, $ 5, fried chicken and black bean rice.
Went back home. After shower, Lori told me that she could walk with me to show me where the mail box is. She walks her dog cookie three times a day. Later I found out, cookie only pisses, shits when she goes out. That is why she needs 3 times walking. I was so tired. But Lori was kind to show me the place of mail box, so I went out for a walk with her and mailed.
Lori’s home is very comfortable. The breeze goes through the rooms, the transparent curtains rise up. She provided me everything I need. I got a small table for my working. WIFI is good. I got two clean big towels and one small towel. The bed looks comfortable.
Sept. 4, 2015 – day 2
Got up at 7:00am, worked, ate apple, orange, avocado. Went out at about 10:00.
I went to metropolitan museum of art. I could not believe I forgot to bring my city pass coupon. Glad to have it on mobile, so I could show to the lady there. She helped me proceed.
I started my adventure at about 11:00 am.
$20.20 lunch at cafeteria of museum, rest one hour, kept going. 3/8
I went out for a while after 17:30? $6.75 mimi’s pizza. It was good. I finished both two slices.
Back to museum to 20:45. There is some Chinese window show and some fashion show. I was not interested. The window show is good. I saw many porcelains or pots, vases. I went to the fashion show several times and could not find more Chinese collections. That is why I must return there to see. There are 4 rooms on the third floor.
I love this museum. Seeing so many priceless items, nutrient my brain, I also have some idea what are the top collections.
I cannot believe I challenged myself and spent the whole day in the museum. I saw so much that are beyond expectation. I was lucky and happy to stay there. This is the most famous museums in the world. It deserves the fame.
Subway A train 175# st to 168 st., the train C fom 168# st. to #86 street. Got out of subway, used subway ticket to get a bus ticket from the machine, free!, Bus M86, two stops to 5th Avenue. The museum is nearby. Later I found out museum miles is there, central park is there too!
Sept. 5, 2015 – day 3
Got up at 8:30am. Ate apple, orange. M made some coffee, Colombia. It was so good. His colleague went to Colombia and brought him authentic Colombian coffee. I was lucky to drink. M put some cream in the coffee when it was about 10am when he went to wake up Lori. He said it is a process. So sweet. 4/8
There is a park nearby where I stayed, J. Hood Wright park.
Subway A train to 34# street. It is Pennsylvania station. A big US post office is nearby. Here is midtown. $5.5 sausage roll, at little Italy Pizza. It was not bad. I could see empire building far aside. I had to walk a few blocks. I saw some big chess board on the road. I had to hurry because I told Lori that I would go back by 1:30 pm. There were many people waiting to go up to empire building. I thought I have city pass NYC that I could avoid the waiting line. But I still needed to wait online. The view was fantastic.
It is much better than the view in Seoul tower. NYC is so pretty. It has bridges, buildings and rivers/oceans. I think I walked two circles before I had to go down. I got home by 14:00. I ate the leftover roll and drank some coffee. At about 15:00, Lori’s friend S went to her home. Lori, M, S and I, and cookie then started going out for a walk. We went to the Height bridge park. 5/8
The bridge just re-opened in July. There is an old water tower there. We also passed by a big swimming pool.
It was a nice walk. I am glad that I spent some time with them. Lori invited me and I said yes. It was a good choice. The bridge connects Manhattan and Bronx. M told me that his favorite football team isMiami Dolphin, his favorite baseball team is New York Yankee. He pointed me the Yankee stadium direction for me.
I walked with Cookie for a while. She reminds me of Pappy, Beth’s dog. We walked back home. I then know this is a neighborhood with many Spanish (actually many Dominicans).
We went to El malecon Restaurant for dinner after 18:00. I guess from 18:30 to 19:15. I followed M, ordered half roast chicken and black bean. They were really good! They ordered some drink, I did not.
I left like 19:20. I wanted to go back to empire building to see the night view. There were more people waiting online than day time. While I made sure that I spent about 1 hour on top (20:53 to 21:55). The night view is awesome. I felt it.
6/8
Got home by 23:00. Shower, washed hair and worked. Do you want to have a flexible timetable and take a trip, really enjoy the trip? If I can, you can build a system for your flexible laptop life too. By the way, one good thing to explore NYC is many places open after 10 am. While I stayed there, I got up early and worked to about 10 am ~ 11 am. After I went back, I worked to 11 pm or midnight. I was thankful for that schedule, even I would just explore the city half a day or a bit more than half a day. I know eventually, with me working hard to my goals, I will have more freedom.
