THENEIGHBOURHOOD 3 THINGS RESIDENTS LOVE ABOUT THE HOOD. Artscape Wychwood Barns Artscape Wychwood Barns is a community cultural hub that opened in 2008. Great for family and kids alike, events throughout the year make this attraction popular. Here, a dynamic mix of arts, culture, food and urban agriculture, environmental and other community activities and initiatives come together to provide a new lease on life for a century old former streetcar repair facility. -

Humewood Park Humewood Park is a great park for toddler sized humans and their caregivers. The treed park features rubberized grounds surrounding a unique play structure of fun slides and climbing doo dads and a fair amount of swings. As seems to be the norm in most good Toronto parks, there are plenty of sand toys left behind by local parents for everyone to play with. There is a picnic table and a smattering of park benches. This is a nice park and a good place to let the little ones work out a bit of energy.

HISTORY OF HUMEWOOD

-

The Schools There are 6 schools within 1 kilometre of 18 Humewood Gardens. They include: St Alphonsus CES, Humewood Community School, McMurrich Jr PS Winona Drive Sr PS, Oakwood CI, Rawlinson Community ES

According to most sources, the Humewood neighbourhood is named after "Humewood", the country estate of William Hume Blake - a prominent lawyer and politician in early Toronto. Blake built Humewood in the 1850's and named it after his ancestral home in Ireland. The former twenty-five acre Humewood estate was carved into various plans of subdivision in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Humewood Park was part of the old estate grounds and Humewood Drive was originally a private laneway to the estate. The Humewood house was sold by the Blake family in the 1870's. Shortly thereafter it burned down but was replaced by a similar house built on the foundation of the original home. In 1912 the Humewood house was purchased by the Anglican Diocese as a refuge for young women in distress. It has undergone many renovations and additions since this time however it remains a local landmark, standing proudly at number forty Humewood Drive.

The schools are just one more reason that families want to live in Humewood. The tree lined streets and lots of green space also act as a huge drawing card. -

The better way is at your doorstep when you purchase a home in Humewood-Cedarvale.

Many renters in Toronto today do not require parking space but if they do, you have parking available for at least one suite. -

The trend in Toronto is definitely away from the car. Millennials in particular are choosing to use car-share services or UBER, making proximity to public transit possibly more important than it has ever been.

Healthcare You are within easy driving distance to many of the leading hospitals in Canada. Healthcare is huge, access to world leading healthcare is priceless.

Personally, I feel that this picture captures Toronto's romance with that old work-house, the streetcar. (pictures enclosed are commissioned works from international photographer Aaron Colwell, working exclusively for me in the Toronto neighbourhood streetscape space). The history of the streetcar is integral to the fabric of what is Toronto. While some prefer to malign these majestic beasts, I for one am happy we still have them. If you consider purchasing 18 Humewood Gardens, or another area home, you will no doubt become very familiar with our lovely streetcars.

A

prairie boy from Saskatchewan who moved to Toronto 22 years ago, Jim's family instilled in him the pioneer work ethic. "Start the day early, work hard, a handshake means something - if you live like this, you will enjoy an abundant harvest." At age 17 Jim started his first company, selling it successfully 7 years later at age 24. Then Jim totally switched directions, joining a small Quebec based start-up. After a few years of dedicated effort, Jim helped that company to drive dramatic sales growth across Canada, which led to his appointment overseeing sales growth in the USA and internationally. He credits those years with teaching him the art of negotiation. Jim uses these skills everyday to help his clients.
