I don’t think that architecture is only about shelter, is only about a very simple enclosure. It should be able to excite you, to calm you, to make you think. Zaha Hadid
Biography The pursuit for art and beauty is my born instinct. Grew up with my fine art teacher father, I had significant influence on painting, art exhibition and museums. While architecture was still a vague impression for me after I graduated from civil engineering background. At that time, I know it is the supreme embodiment of beauty and sophistication. Architectures always fascinated me with their grand scale and style. Digital fabrication and computational aided design forwarded the architectural design and construction in another level. It also brought the ancient Greek “Master Tekton (Builder)” concept back to the modern, which meant architects were not only creating spatial effects, but also they were closely elaborating the construction of buildings.

Precedent Study of Earth Architectures Earth is one of the oldest and most widely used materials for thousands of years. As demonstrated by the historic evidence, nearly every country in every continent has a rich heritage of earthen buildings. From the world’s highest land Tibet to the Niles shore in Egypt or the rich valleys in the south east of China, archaeologists’ findings have proven that earth as a building material inspired our ancestors and affected the way we build.

The first test purely focuses on the raw local earth without adding any supplements in. The positive volume in the plywood mold represented a 2D arch shape.
This test focused on the prefabricated rammed earth component to estimate the friction and strength for the individual piece. Also, the overall stability of the arch structure consisting of earth component should be tested after assembling.

02 PSEUDO VERTICAL Grids | Shifts | Infills | Gaps | Voids Instructor: Mara Marcu | Design Studio | 2016. 1 - 2016. 4 | Individual This studio engaged in the ongoing redefinition of an otherwise obsolete architectural typology - the skyscraper. To understand the “verticalscape as a self generating, autopietic entity, this work explored utopical skyscraper through form finding process by using different media.
01 ARCHITECTURE
Diagram of Interiority This is an initial documentation of 6 precedents within the existing 587 skyscrapers currently found in New York City. Each tower is shown in a split axon, aiming at identifying typologies within their organization. Looking into canonical architecture and nonpedigreed precedents, this analysis clearly shows between function and structure in different scales.

Pseudo-Vert 30
Diagrams of Exteriority PseudoVertical 2 is a radical vertical proposition generated by the fragmentation of existing condominium tower types and their reassembly in a porous collective. By finding the source of inspiration and potential resolution in the very surreal culture of congestion itself, each precedent is modified by thier special organization and form characteristic. It aimed at seeking a paradoxical interior urbanism where individual units simultaneously look onto themselves and at one another, this studio is fondant color coded, extremely formal and highly optimistic.

Ornament Unit Model and Aggregation (left page) - This cell design combined with single sheet of circular paper and a string to hold the entire structure from 2d to 3d form. This positive and negative shape also provide connection for the overall affregation. Microorganic Pattern (right page) - The condominium and office tower in NYC created the density of this unique urban landscape. In the future, digital manipulation will help people to customize their demands to form the entire building in a organic style. It more likes a cell growth.

Manifesto “Metabolism” is a theory of architecture contending that “buildings and cities should be designed and developed in the same continuous way that the material substance of a natural organism is produced. Comparing with future’s urbanism development, energy crisis and high density population make us to think about what is the future’s strategy during the ‘resource war’ period. With the technology achievement in the future, ‘Neo-Metabolism’ will continue this futuristic idea and push it to another level. High-performance structure will support the capsule space in some extreme conditions. The dynamic arrangement of space gives more flexible opportunities to squeeze the functional spaces in a high density context. So architecture should response the social structure change in the future to fulfill the need we have.
36
Site Condition The High Line public park has become one of New York’s most popular public spaces recently. This fresh adaptation of a unique piece of urban infrastructure in 8 years has been drew attention for many of famous architects to make their mark along the 1.4-mile-long landmark in Chelsea. Increased density of this area is required more public space. Proposed pier will provide compost and recycling from local waste consumption. Recyclable material will be formed to structure units for building envelope. This endless repeation will help the expansion of the future development. This recycling and mold making process also can provide construction material for other purpose.
