PORTFOLIO JINGHUI LIU 2015-2020
About Me Jinghui Liu is a Landscape Architect with emphasis on master planning, parametric design, landscape schematic design, 3D model making, and high rise building design through multiple design practices in last 4 years. Before being a landscape architect, Jinghui completed a Bachelor in Landscape Architecture with Honours Second Class from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in December 2015. During his fourth year in QUT, he delivered the award-winning project “Dispersed City within Cities” (Independent Project from QUT) with the Hassell Prize for Best Visual Communication Work across Four Years, and one of the QUT represented works aiming to submit at the Schools Exhibition – IX Landscape Architecture Biennale in Barcelona. He explored an abstract concept to speculate the contextual transformation with the methodology of parametric urbanism. As a young Landscape Architect, Jinghui displays his great passion and efforts on the trajectory approaching a professional designer. In addition to practicing the skills of design visual communication and design documentation, his strong interest in technology and art has motivated him to continue learning and experimentation trajectories through the application of “Rhino+Grasshopper+Archicad” as design tools to enable envisioning and design thinking from conceptual design to construction documentation to environmental scenarios simulation. The portfolio selected a few distinctive and recent works in last five years. These works will take you on a journey which strongly illustrates the various skills learned and received under the guidance of Marshall Strabla (Former SOM Studio Head), Will Marcus (Director and Principal of Argo Architects), and Yan Chen (Associate Landscape Architect at FORM Landscape Architect). Sit back relax and allow me to take you on this journey.

Sinagtala Community Redevelopment
Location: Baranguy of Bahay Toro, Quezon City, Philippine Client: He Cares Mission Responsiblity: • Led by Will Marcus, and assist him to do the project research, presentation & schematic documentation in Metro Manila, Philippines. Programme/Software: • Photoshop • CAD • Rhino + Grasshopper Scenario: Following the completely devastating fire that started at 4.30pm on the 30th of April 2019 and destroyed the Barangay Sinagtala community completely, only 1 building survived; the small 50 seat chapel. The village was most likely lost because of an electrical fire and because all of the Sinagtala homes were built from scavenged materials, typically wood, metal sheet and plastics. The Barangay was like kindling to the fire and very quickly, the whole Barangay was engulfed in flame. Miraculously, everyone got out in time and without injury and only two other homes in an adjacent Barangay were lost to the flames. With predictable speed, the He Cares Mission led by Brother Joe Dean and his wife, Sister Ardis Sola responded, providing a hot meal every day for over 1,000 of the newly homeless. Also, tents, clothes, toiletry kits, counselling and spiritual care have been provided since the fire.

Vysocany Apartment
Location: Vysocany, Prague, Czech Republic Organization: Penta Real Estate Type: Architecture (250 Homes Apartment) Programme/Software: • Photoshop • Rhino + Grasshopper Scenario: Vysocany has undergone significant redevelopment in recent years - transforming the popular suburb in to a lively neighborhood with steadily growing public amenities, the proposal is to make conscious decisions to provide a sensitive, respectful form while allowing the same choices to simultaneous manifest as exceptional residences with spectacular views. In direct response to the context and the location on the edge of Sokolovaska Street, the northeast corners take the heights of their immediate neighbor; while the northeast corner, farthest from the parkland with the east view, is pulled upwards to grant it the most spectacular views of park. The southwest and southeast point of the building are seamlessly adjacent to the existing building on the site. The lower profile of the south blocks has the 45-degree views allow the sunlight potentially go through the space of building. While the rotation degree varies 45 degree to 135 degree from south to the north enable 250 units potentially to have heterogeneous views orientation. The area of unit varies between 110 sqm to 48 sqm from south block to the north block of the building. Additionally, the central courtyard as the green core or green void ensures copious amounts of public space for the community of the building and the surrounding neighborhood.

Infinate Belly
Location: Creek Harbour, Dubai, UAE Organization: Emaar Type: Structure Programme/Software: • Photoshop • Rhino + Grasshopper Scenario: For this project, I am looking for a language from the Belly dance, also referred as Arabic dance to represent a concept of landmark in Creek Harbour while prospecting the culture relevant with context of Dubai. Dance and architecture are two disciplines of creativity that share a special relationship. Both disciplines define and shape the architectural form for creative interpretation (Huang, Emily Rai-Pi, 1991). To think about structure created for and by the body as the common linkage between dance and architecture, I deeply research on the geometrical pattern of Arabic architecture, the body language & movement from belly dance. I aim to address the creative process of design through integrating the ideas from those two artistic disciplines. The intent of this project is to find an architectural behavior with dance performing and movement that communicate the vision of landmark at Creek Harbor.
