Positive&Negative Through the imitation
of the sample image of positive and negative gives
the opportunity to create
the space with irregulare shape. And these space
can be the atrium or shape
the ceiling. It is simple to do the forming the shape
and define the function of each shape. This irregulare gives the chance to explore
the externor and internal. It kinds of breake the role of shraight wall and space.
Positive and negative as the basic
method of shaping the form. It can creates the form through cuting
and adding. But, the key is to define which part is the negative part and
which part can be the positive part. Through the left side two pictures
can see the positive is giving the general shape while the negative
part is the more liking adding the detial inside and provide the space
for people to have breath and imagation of the function.

Illusion Based on the original cuting and adding process
using different colour or material will creating the sense of different. It is
more like the highlight of the part. Such as the left top one, it used the red
and mirror to highlight the stair elements in the model. Or liking the bottom one the red is kind
of reminding the entrance and breake the original boringing feeling in the model.
So the Positive and
negative combined with the changing or
the material will do the highligh of the specific
part. It adds the interest to the project.
Illusion is kind of creating the fake world using the mirror or glazing to shape it. It kinds of become the
wonder land for internal space. While when it applied with the external, it makes the building dissolved in the environment. The
two is different, one is to create the
mistoury, another is more hideand engaging into the space.

In these inerations are trying to use the materials
like glassing and mirror
to create the gost feeling. They either can see
through the model or
relfect the surrounding objects to create the sense of loss.
For this method may
create different feeling for the new NGV,exspecially for the exbition part.

Distortion
Distortion example is from Gehry's work it shows the different from othside. It is more like the break
the rule of straight, the curve shape is creates more tention from the normal building to the design.
For the NGV_C it can be the example
of using the external shape to atract people's attention and tend to get into the gallery.

Fragmentation
Fragmentation in my mind is kind
of update of positive and negative.
The method can be using the lines or spepreate into pieces to highlight the part or for different functions.
Just like the left side showing, the
top one is more cutting into pieces,
which can be the different functions in each pieces, but looking as the whole. The bottom one is more like
whole part using glassing to create the sense of cuting.

The testing is kind of expend of the finding of the how the red line be
the cuting of the form and giving the new meaning to it.

Fold
Folding is using the twisting and curve to shape the model and give the nature feeling.
While, this can make the landscape
feeling for the building and can be the part of furniture.

EXISTING NGV
The National Gallery of Victoria, popularly known as the NGV, is an art museum in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1861, it is Australia's oldest, largest and most visited art museum.
SITE ANALYSIS
NGV_C located at the back side of original NGV and surrounded by the art center. Therefore, the design of it should consider the influence from NGV and surrounding building. But Should standout the idea of Contemporary.
As visiting the NGV, I can clearly feel the building is heavy from outside, but gives enough lighting and open space inside the building. Some gallery space is different from the classical blank wall and waiting for art to fill in. Giving me the new way of understanding the gallery space with specific artwork.

1. Analysis to Original NGV: Current collections in NGV are mainly traditional idea artwork, such as oil painting, sculpture and so on. At the same time, most of them are located at the place with the words as the explanation and base for people to study and understand the background of the project. Although in NGV there are also other area exhibition, the main part of collections is more traditional. This makes the visitors except those have the research with the part, the rest are hard to truly understood the work and learn from it. For most of them, it is more giving a hurried and cursory glance at the art and having a raft idea in their mind. Also, most of the visitors are elder people. Like Picasso what he done is hard for me to understand and get the beauty from it without explain what his thought behind it is, even he is famous enough that everyone knows him and his work. But after the explanation, I had the totally different option to his work. The similar example happens with Cai Guoqiang’s work using firework to get the painting, without the video of how he done his painting it is hard to get the meaning behind the mass colourful painting. At that time, I was shocked even just saw the video. If it is possible to make it really happen in the gallery how it will affect people’s thinking to that work and the art philosophy behind it. These two examples show how to show the work may make the totally different feeling and understanding. Therefore, current situations are traditional artworks, few methods of showing and explaining the work, and hard to be understood by the ordinary especially for the younger generation and foreign visitors. 2. New NGV Target and Statement: As the original NGV’s situation it is not necessary to have the two same type and attitude gallery at the same place. Thus, this NGV tends to be the new and modern art gallery and try to attract young people and the general public. Trying to create a gallery that can be more acceptable and understood by them. As the art has certain foresight and every development is based on the generation and people’s needs. Nowadays, people are mainly got information and socialised online, especially for young people. Everyone enjoy short video even it is explaining academic knowledge and using social media to share and get the connection with others. This action is based on immediately interaction, the joy of acquiring fragmented knowledge and social requirements. When these are achieved the gallery, more tends to be acceptable for most people. Therefore, what is show or how to show these artworks can be in the form of more interaction with visitors and be more joyful for people to experience and having the better understanding of these unfamiliar or even forward ideas. And in this gallery will be more current artwork and the active and engaging exhibition or more like performance art. 3. Precedents: The Shed/ DS+R The Museum of Modern Art/DS+R London Centre for Music/DS+R Ethereal Italian Pavilion for Expo Dubai 2020 Competition/ Dodi Moss Team 4. Tend to Be Achieved Space: As the museum is facing towards the public, it should be more open. Not just the external attitude to invite people coming into the building, but also the internal space for visitors to explore and have enough space for those interaction space. As Schumacher said the building is the container of communication needs to invite potential participations to communicate and interact. Inside the building creating more communication between people and people, people and art may achieve the target of represent the artwork and behind theory to them. As what is shown in the gallery is totally different and represent more of current and future tends of art. The form should also represent the objects inside the building, it maybe in the totally different design attitude like NGV done. It will more blind the boundary and no longer be the standard shape. It may create the better engagement and creating the sense of flow between arts. Some thing like Italian Pavilion will also create the blurring and the flow in the air. Creating the feeling of like dream in the gallery with art surrounded. Journal 2020_NGV_C 32

Design Statement 01ďźš
As the development of technics such as smart phone and faster network system, they changed the way of understanding and communicate. This change also leads to increasingly diverse art and public perception of art. People access to the art through these technics, either from the social media or through those immersive experience in the device. In today’s world access art is no longer single way, there are more opportunities and access to touch it. Gallery as the place of showing artworks and concepts it provides the chances to wonder, to explore, to share the beauty and amazing ideas. No matter they are past, current or even the future, no matter how it is represented. NGV_C can be seen as the place of art integration. In it, concept-based art integration is closely aligned with the new emphasis. It seems like the fragment or collage as zoomed to each part, which provides the multiple elements and can be worked separately. But they are related and tied and recognised as the united form. This means inside the gallery there will be transdisciplinary art participation which seems does not related. However, they are mutual benefits transferred unfamiliar concepts to familiar objects. The similar positive and negative elements like mirrored can represent the link of multi-discipline. This makes the space broken into pieces while creates its own order and connection to respond to the artworks and an aspect of social responsibility in terms of consideration of audiences. Enriched the visitor experience by establishing links between art and other subject. By creating the interests of interact with it helps communicating with those from a variety of education background having great participation. Through the fragmentation will be looks like the building is organised by the function. While, it has its own order to combine, mix and interact with other parts. It will create a art centre with the existing surrounding art performance, People will have their own art tourism guide line and as said at the beginning to wonder, to explore, to share, to gain their individual art idea.
Journal 2020_NGV_C 44
Therefore, NGV_C is the mix of the pieces and united, the order and disorder, the connection and break. There will be no fixed idea, journey, form and art. Through using each piece to represent the multiple elements divided by transdisciplinary, then creating the link of these pieces. To achieve the contemporary gallery itself becomes the art and allows visitors to have a flow inside the art.

Advanced developments in technology have completely changed the way of communication and society interacts and operates. People experience the compression and fold of time and space through technology via social media or immersive experience in the various devices. It makes the communication across time and space become possible. At same time, it also leads to increasingly diverse art forms and changes public perception of art in general. While, transdisciplinary art participation as the way to provide multiple expressions in art. It shorts the distance of art and people. It transferred unfamiliar concepts to familiar objects and the chance to interact with art through multi- senses. It explores one way of communication with the objects to show in the gallery, and opens the path of understanding art. The gallery will show the possibility of the interaction between art and people, and communication between visitors through using transdisciplinary as the function to explain art. NGV_C tends to be the open space where provides the opportunity of transdisciplinary communication. In such space people can wonder, to explore, and to share the splendour along with the conceptual ideas. The idea of oblique function including inclined planes and folding space announced by Paul virilio to achieve these interactions. Current NGV and surrounding buildings are in the forms of Euclidean geometry. In these ordered forms they do not have the fold space and lead to the limitation of interaction. Therefore, using topology this Non-Euclidean form in the space can blurry the area and achieve the twisted and folding of space. This fold or twisted creates the inclined planes. It forces people under the unstable attitude and keep moving, but also able to stop immediately. Thus, increasing the interaction and make the space become more open.
+ FUNCTION Journal 2020_NGV_C 72
OBLIQUE
In NGV_C, I tend to the combine the linear 2D circulation with inclined plane which is more dynamic flow to create a net for people to communicate and interact. This net will be like the negative space cut from the original space and break the order. Forming the fragmentated space to be function area and exhibition space. The blurry folding space helps communicating with those from a variety of education background having great participation. At same time, it impacts the mixing of arts and other subject or technic and enriched the experience. This folding and idea of inclined plane can extend inside-out. Shorting the distance of our life to art and NGV_C can be able to communicate with the city.
