1.1 POINT/LINE/PLANE

This picture shows how to create the variable surface by using triangles. They can connect together to form the surface also can form the curved surface or volume through each tinny pieces. It also uses colours to create the change in surface. Using triangles can easily form point and lines which use basic shape to create the changes.

Base on the idea I got from the left side pictur using triangle to create the changeable surfac and volume. Therefore in my model all the su parts are created by small pieces of triangle a connected together with different angles to fo curved change. The columns in the model are work as the support for planes. They are cons as points and lines to connect the two volume together. They are in different lengths so can seen as lines in elevation and points from top

1.2 MASS

In this picture the mass feeling is created by the comparsion between dark and light.Although it is a quite simple space, it is easy to feel the open space and the heavy concrete walls. It uses the light to create the difference between these two feelings and makes a changing volume. And it triggers people to explore this space.

For mass can be considered not only as the darkness of surrounding area, but it also can be considered as the sense of compression. Therefore, in my drawing it represented by light and dark. Dark gives the sense of compression and light will provide the sense of relase. The drawing shows from ground to underground then get out. So it gives the sense of becoming compression then relase. In the center of the drawing leaves a hole that allows light coming through is not only gives the sense of relase but also for people more easily exploring the space.

1.3 FRAME & INFILL

Although in Suzhou Museum frames are not considered as the main structure and the infills are all in the same colour, it still can be easily distiguish from each other. The infills are mainly the wall but it also use other materials to gives more sense for building instead of just frame and infill. And most of these material are glass which gives the light into the building.

Base on the idea I got from Suzhou Museum, my model remain the black sticks as frame and white cardboard and tracing paper as infill also use PVC as glass. The tracing paper allows light to coming trough the model but not all of them so the are built as lights at the top of the model. PVC gives the sense of invisiable, so as people on it will feel they are in the air. Also using white infill gives the sense of light in weightand more feeling in the air.

2.0 A PLACE FOR KEEPING SECRETS

2.1 SITE ANALYSIS

Herring island is located in Yarra River 3km away from city. Altough it has open space for BBQ and some aboriginal scultures and art gallery, there are few people coming to the island. It might because the opening time. But it has various landscape and high rate of vegetation cower makes it have many choices for secret paivion. The chosen site is at low terrain covered by hills and has trees around it. That makes the pavilion can be visualy hard to be seen somehow. Also it has quite lage flat space which makes easier for future design it can be either from air to the ground or ground to air. It is away from the main public area the BBQ area but is not cannot be accessable. So it crates the secrets and gives some private sense

2.2 CONCEPTACLE & SKETCH DESIGN Based on the sense of secrets it is considered as the trip for something needs to be found out which attracts people to explore. So the secrets are at the place between can be seen and hard to find.To achieve this can use cruved pathways to create more space for exploring. Also using materials to cover the objects inside can be another idea. But it cannot be not allow people to see anything inside. All the describetion above are related to visiable secrets. While, as human we also have emotional secrets some things cannot tell or do not want to. Therefore, they need space for relasing these space where is peaceful and can be alone.

In the conceptal I use different shapes of surface as the plane and mass which is mainly for on ground and underground to create the space for welcoming to the space and changable underground visiting area. Black sticks in the model work as frame that gives support to thoses surfaces and the connection between these surface. Also the shadow also changes as the light changes, it can be the attraction for people to explore.

The secret in this project is mainly about the journey to explore the paviloin. People will be guide by light and experience new space. Also the pavilion includes the above grond, on ground and under ground which are connected by slop. That means people can access three levels fluently. As mentioned in my conceptical it creates space for expolring which is underground. The emotional secrets are above the ground which wants to create a space for peace and avoide being disterbed by outside and viewing the nature to help them keep their secrets.

2.5 FINAL DESIGN MODEL

3.0 REFLECTION

The studio Earth is the studio to create the model releative to ground and it starts from on the ground to underground, above ground and the pavilion for connecting these areas together. In the previous three drawings and models are mainly focous on one technology respectively, while in the final pavilion is trying to make them be used together. For the first three project, I release the precident studies are quite useful for me before making the real model. They provide general understanding for the project and some ideas to sprit the further design. In the final project, the precidents work as the guide teaching me how to represent what I expected in the real model. So I think Precident study gives me a lot of help when I doing these models. Another I learned from the studio is sometimes making the 3D model works better than drawing and digital model. When I am doing the 3D model, the actual shape can be seen clearly and maybe based on the shape I had and do more changes to make it better. But for the drawing it has more open space to create while this makes me feel having too many ideas and do not how to explain it on paper. For the digital model is similar, I have to consider the command and the idea at the same time. But they are all good choices to represent my design. I think they can be used at different steps like drawing the first ideas then make the sketch model and do the digital one. The studio also provide me the chance to communicate with others to learn what they do and how they think about theproject.
