Artists research Sandra Cinto Sandra Cinto is a Brazilian artist (Juxtapoz, 2014). Her work decided to use a specific medium, drawing itself, since the early 1990s (Burton et al, 2005). The works are always delicate and perfects with intricate installations (SANDRA CINTO, 2014). She like to draw many images through her travel, and her visual drawing like metaphors for the odyssey of life (SANDRA CINTO, 2014).

Her work is divided into three different vital parts of size, technique, and theme. The size of her work is always with the one by one for the realistic objects (Burton et al, 2005). For example, the work of massive wave mural (Fig.1) at the Art Museum's Olympic Sculpture Park Pavilion in Seattle, used silver paint pens and a blue painted backdrop (Juxtapoz, 2014). The real boat under the picture is like sailing in the sea. The technique with special tools displayed various feelings. She would like to draw with a black or silver felt-tip pen on paper, wood, skin, actual architecture and glass (Burton et al, 2005). The background also applies various colours like black, white, mint green, skin colour and night blue (Burton et al, 2005). And sometimes, she will use the real objects into her painting (Burton et al, 2005). For instance, the work called Table (Fig.2) is used the white wall to be the background and draw the picture from table to the wall. And another picture (Fig.3) with green background put photographs on walls to draw with ink from wall through the photographs. The theme always used complex objects to divide with two vital elements of blatant figurative shapes such as special ladders, knives, chandeliers, candles, lamps, bridges and so on, and abstract lines like nets, webs and grids (Burton et al, 2005). And she would like to put the whole images together (Burton et al, 2005). For example of the picture (Fig.4) with black background, it can be seen many different objects and the lines with various combination. However, the most common drawings in her works is natural images such as the sea, sky,

star and full (SANDRA CINTO, 2014). It can be seen in many pictures (Fig.1 & Fig.4). The another painting (Fig.5) drew creek, dandelion and firework with the blue pen on black background.

Although, she has produced small-scale works, the best known work is room-filling installations (SANDRA CINTO, 2014). The type of the drawing is covering entire walls with her graphic renderings of roiling waves, twinkling stars, or pouring rain (SANDRA CINTO, 2014). Her central work is to make the viewers immersed in her imagery, and she want to show her mind with the cycle of life (SANDRA CINTO, 2014). The work (Fig.6) from the series "Nights of Hope" was finished in 2005 displayed in Casa Tri창ngulo. This work make the many parts of little paintings together. Blue background and white pen drawings are like twinkling stars in the nights. The combined line is like the rains or winds. The metaphor of the work is Nights of Hope. It can be described the dream at nights which is peace and quilt.

In her work, it show the exquisite details and perfect techniques. Every work has their own metaphor. However, her works always show the feelings with peace, hope and life.

William Morris William Morris as a pioneer of English Arts and Crafts Movement is an English textile designer, artist, writer, and libertarian socialist (Morris & Co, N.D). He as a historical designer whose works are used in wallpapers, pattern on clothes and so on (Caroline, 2008). Morris produced his first printing in 1883, and His first tapestry weaving experiments was in 1879 (Anscombe and Gere, 1978). His many works base on natural objects especially plants, which used lines and colours to describe the realistic things (Morris & Co, N.D). The example of the Trellis (Fig.7), as his first wallpaper design, was from the rose-trellis in the garden of his house in Bexlevheath, Kent in 1862 (V&A, 2014). It applied flowers, leaves, birds and fruits together to show his theme of nature. However, the first pattern to be issued was Daisy in 1864 (V&A, 2014). It with a simple design of naively drawn meadow flowers which was a wall-hanging famous in 15th-century (V&A, 2014).

He produced his own company to make a range of original domestic furnishings including embroidery, tableware and furniture, stained glass and tiles (V&A, 2014). His wallpapers as the most popular production were soon added to the list of the society (V&A, 2014). His collected the sources of plants when he observed in the gardens or on country walks (V&A, 2014). His designs were from subtle stylite evocations not the forms of natural literal transcriptions, and he has many illuminated manuscripts, tapes-tries and other textiles incorporating floral imagery (V&A, 2014). For example, the work of Acanthus (Fig.8) which completed in 1875 at Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A, 2014). This work show Morris’ inspiration from nature adequately (V&A, 2014). The work is combined with the same leaves in different arrangements. With the same pattern has many colours to be the wallpapers. And another type of plants are cirrus. The example of cirrus plants, which can find many details (Fig.9). The cirrus plants as the background and the flower bloomed on it. It is also wallpaper which can emphasis patterns with different types on the

background. The design of cirrus also showed in other work such as Trellis (Fig.7) and Acanthus (Fig.8).

On the other hand, he also has many works just have the single colour. The one (Fig.10) is used yellow background which showed many details to make repeat pattern. The work just used single colour with yellow, which is like the positive and negative pattern, but it also displays many details in the white shape. Another one called Borage ceiling paper (Fig.11) was made from 1888 to 1889 which was collected at Victoria & Albert Museum in London (V&A, 2014). The work was drawn with single colour of green. And this is closest positive and negative. It used green colour to described the clear shape of plants.

William Morris would like to use the nature especially plants as his theme. In his works, different plants have their own characteristic to give various feelings. Some of them are used different theme, and some of them are applied the same plants to repeat with different types, arrangements, and colours to show their various forms. His works always have clear pattern and details with fitting colours.

Drawing in class Blind Drawing This is an interesting style to draw, but it is a little bit difficult to control the pen and arrangement. The face looks a little bit different and funny.

Observational Drawing This is an observational drawing in class, which is a quick drawing with black mark pen. It is difficult to control the space in the painting. But this is a good way to draw when observational drawing outside.

4 Drawing with Same object This drawing just used one object, but draw it one by one to be bigger. There is not details for the first one, but for the last one which is also biggest one can find some details on the glass legs. About the shadow, the larger one is clearer. Drawing Together This painting drew with classmates together. This is a work needed imagination. I did not know anything before it came back my hand. And used different pens to draw it which can learn many things from different people. The single colour in painting, and the pencil drawing with mark pen make the painting more interesting.

Positive and Negative This is a good way to catch the shape of objects. This is like shadow under the light.

Home Drawing Observational

drawing

and

Memory drawing The first one for memory is easier than the second one. And the observational one is realer

than

another

one.

Drawing with the two together can improve memory and can draw painting quickly.

5 Drawing with one object 1. Charcoal 1. Background with charcoal, eraser to be the shape, then use the pencil to draw details 2. Ink 3. White pastel on black card 4. Pencil Used five different way to draw one

shoe.

This

way

can

compare which type better. I really like the fifth, which can find texture on shows. And fourth one with white pastel. It is better to show shadow and light.

Urban landscape This two painting drew in Yorkshire Park. The left one drew quickly with charcoal and it looks clear of light and shadow. The right one drew the part of tree with pencil, which has more details but needed more time.

This is drawn in the school. I drew the building just with line, and the tree to make the texture. It spent about 25min to draw. I used some mark to draw plants. I like quick drawing outside. That is a good way to catch the moving at moment.

Tracing paper drawing The drawing is Town Hall and Parkinson together. I put the pillars to be the background and drew Town Hall on it. It has shadow on the original painting. And the tracing paper just has a shape with line. This is also a good to catch the shape of objects, but it lacks details.

Different paper drawing These drawings compared with two type of newspaper with wet brush and old paper with pencil. Used new way of the background to catch various feelings. I like these ways to have a different challenges.

Development Drawing connect with artists For Final 1

I drew the first final with positive and negative. I drew the two paintings with lines like Cinto’s work used lines to fill the shape of flowers. I used newspaper with different drawings, such as fine line pens, mark pens, and negative

drawing. And another used the negative drawing like Morris’ drawing. The drawing one used newspaper as the background and another one used the colour of black. Then I decided to draw the final which used newspaper to be the background and to be more long scale. I chose colourful newspaper to be the background, and the black colour to finish this work.

The second final, I chose the way of line drawing on the black background.

The flowers drawing with line and cirrus is the same as Morris’ work. And I tried Cinto’s way to draw details. The picture one and two are the base painting on white paper. And the last four paintings, I used black colour to draw the background and the line drawing used white pen, which is like Cinto’s work. The final work, I used the black paper to make by myself, and used white pen to draw flowers and purple pen to draw leaves.

For Final 3

I learnt Cinto’s works to draw with different paper. This time I chose brown paper. This is not smooth, but it can give the feeling with texture. The all flowers used the line to describe. I tried to use computer to draw squirrel, and use colour ink to draw butterflies. Then put them together. This final I put the colour ink butterfly and line flowers together. And clicked it on white paper to be like a frame around it.
