Then I start to think about where the presence comes from. It may come from something special in site, a piece of memory, or a special material. It’s already here, just too weak to tell. Architecture is like an amplifier. Material to be a wall, walls form a space, the presence gathers which have the power to talk with us. It is like a music score, the pres ence is like the musical note. Architecture put all these notes together to become a symphony. Then it can be understood and have a dialogue with it.

I’d love to start a design from history, it is the source of wis dom. It helps me discover the presence that exists between tradition and culture. Finally, I believe that architecture is not only an expression of art but also a structure for living. It needs to be strong, and stay on-site a long time, the tra ditional construction strategy and materials are proved by time. So I learn from the site, history, traditional construction techniques and materials. It not just looking for the presence and atmosphere but also to make a solid building. Thought of Architecture

My inspiration for architecture started with a night trip at Shui An Shan Ju in Xiang Shan Campus. When I walked out of the roof along the ramp and stairs, the surrounding buildings become smaller, a feeling of “All the mountains are small at a glance” was revealed. Then I believe that there is a presence in architecture, it can have a dialogue with us, then we are resonated. As Zumthor said that it not only appears when a human is actually in space. It always exists, has conversations with all the things here. Just our spiritual/emotions can coin cidently have a dialogue with it.

JINLONG LI About me: I loved reading and discovering the philosophy of architec ture and was fascinated by the atmosphere. I travelled to a different place to experience their culture and to see their architecture when I have time, I believe only that a real ex perience can fully evoke or inspire people’s thoughts about architecture. 142 Qinglong Road, Chongqing,Hechuan,China.401520 Phone: Born:Email:Wechat:15086900702Jeremy423774064robot.color@gmail.com13Jan1997

Community Center 2020 01 l 02

Chippendale, a historic site related art, is a good culture site. After 70s, Chippendale attract young and well-educated people living here. At the same time, there is a growing sense of art. Then, the council recognized that here is not only about art but the heritage buildings should be retained and restored. The nearby CBD of Sydney lies behand the site and in front of it, look about the park and low level residential. It is quiet, hard to hear the traffic noise.

Our project is a small community centre. After a review of the history and main group of people lived in this area, I think the community centre should combined by three function – a working place for sculpture artist, a small gallery space for exhibition these works, and a library. These three functions are benefits to each other to increasing the numbers that come to the community Icentre.lovethe idea of place separation function in separation building in the same site, the connection between them can be made after. In this way, you can achieve an open garden between these buildings to connect the surrounding; and described the genius loci – create connection between city and suburb, between old and new. The community centre is conceived in the terms of its material production. The decision is using the material that we get from the demolished building waste to create the new brick. I believe their will be a sense of transform from old to new when visitors touching the material. The new material is still considered in it –the glass brick, it is placed at the inner façade, “new” leaking from “old” with “brick” form.

For me, lighting is another important feature. I would love to see the sculpture dancing under the nature lighting. A “light box” is created on the wall to achieve the idea, it changed all day. I believe a same project in the exhibition box will provide different understanding to visitors at different time. Moroever It can more delight me when human studying under the nature lighting because I believe the nature lighting will bring wisdom to reader to understand the world.

After the baptism of the industrial age, the city is full of reinforced concrete, the residents' living units are getting smaller and smaller in the pace of the city dominated by speed so that the emotional needs based on group life become more and more indifferent. In Huangnan village of Songyang, the loss of young people led to age polarization and fault lines among villagers, but it retained the close state of life in the form of traditional Chinese clans. We want to design Huangnan Village Resident Center as a starting point, through the building will be Huangnan Village's culture in an exploratory way to fully and subtly show to urban residents, while the vitality of urban modernization and into the countryside, so that villagers and tourists in the interaction to find each other's innermost lost beauty.

The concept of our architectural design transformation comes from the views of these doors and windows. The door of the ancient village is half-hidden, conveying the mutual trust between the villagers, but also conveys the welcome to the travellers outside the village. When doors and windows appear, the building is no longer a fortress, and the space in our house, surrounded by four walls, changes accordingly, and a connection with nature and humanity emerges. The inner façade of the ancient village became the façade of the outward display, and the house became a landscape, creating the doors and windows between Huangnan village and the city travellers.

The design concept begins with a chance encounter with the owner or the property - Uncle Ye, at the village entrance grocery store. Meeting Uncle Ye for me is like opening a false door, let us step into Huangnan village. The day with him was like seeing the village through several windows, through which we learned more about the story of Huangnan village.

For the reconstruction of villages and ancient buildings, architects should respect their regionality. We use a slightly restrained approach to emphasize the introvertedness of the building, and at the same time reshape the relationship between the base and the building itself in a lightweight construction method on the outside of the building. First, the public and the transitional space from the street to the building are constructed with a semi-enclosed volume. This space is also a place for residents to enjoy the coolness in summer, daily chats, festive banquets, and other public activities. We provide Visitors and villagers with different perspectives to experience the entire external place. Through the design of the outdoor connecting part of the space, we intend to reshape and strengthen the connection between the main building part and the riverbank. By redefining the activities of the villagers and tourists along the river, the traditional water-centric activity is embedded in the design. Become a generator of outdoor activities in the village. Washing laundry, chatting, stopping, and enjoying the scenery, these interactions that take place along the river establish a bond between the villagers and tourists, and show the activities of the villagers to the people passing by. “When doors and windows appear, the building is no longer a fortress, and the space in our house, surrounded by four walls, changes accordingly, and a connection with nature and humanity emerges.”

The experience space for detecting bacteria is located in the firewood room on the upper right of the original building. The original material atmosphere of the firewood room is reused, and this place is designed as a display rack for bacteria-cultivating wood. While not affecting the villagers to continue to grow bacteria here, the display racks can allow visitors to shuttle and explore between them. A part of the display rack connects the attic reading side of the second-floor space as a display space, amplifying the sense of traveling through the door and the space exploration experience between building floors.

To increase the openness of the interior of the building, a double-layer virtual box in the centre. The skylight penetrated through the roof to enhance the order of the original space and construct a loop-shaped internal circula tion. Light pass though the north skylight at roof which is soft, and the double-height space breaks the vertical enclosure of the original Thisbuilding.isan old house built more than 100 years ago. We respected the original characteristics of the old house and made it more prominent. We do not plan to remove original columns from here. The roof of the entire space main tains the original beam and column structure are preserved, making it an indoor form of expression. The open space and publicity are preserved, enclosing two pieces of sky. The choice of materials continues the form of trans mission, with earth walls and logs as the main body, breaking the heaviness of the building through the intervention of contemporary light steel and glass materials.

A flare dancing over the land, a radiance hanging in the air: a feeling of warmth arouses. Our dream is to capture the precious scent of warmth and intimacy. As the sun sets, longlines may be filled with occupants in the off-grid landscape. When the building merges with the darkness of the night, the “lantern” illuminates from the distance and guilds the way home. We loved the idea that a prototypical architecture that can be placed anywhere, acting as a medium between occupants and the natural environment, staying "anonymous", as well as a container for the soul to rest. As Heidegger said, human perception is integrated with the external environment. On the one hand, microhouse embraces the rational ideology – being sustainable and responsive. The entire cabin's core consists of aquaponics, passive heating/ cooling, and a PV system to achieve self-sufficiency and sustainability.

Sustainable System Overview

The water tank on the roof can not only capture rainwater to provide water for the kitchen, toilet, and aquaponics. However, it can also be used as a passive heating/cooling device to ensure the thermal comfort of the upper space.

Roof Water Tank Heat Stored

The aquaponics system contains three main parts: a plant growing bed, nitrification filter, and fish tank. Fish waste can be converted to fertilizers for the plant to grow; plants function as the filter; the bacteria in the nitrification bed provides the basis for the organic cycle.

Construction materials can be sourced locally as it is mainly timber-framed.

Spirit and function, for us, share the integral quality of architec ture, upon which the yoga house is designed Solid wall separates the site and create different stage along the wall to have an analogy between spatial sequence and the mind stage of yoga. In the end, through yoga, the seer abides in his own self. The entire architecture is a journey, an abidance of one's mind and self, creating the cosmic relationships.

The Yoga House is conceived in terms of material makeup. The material presence is essential to us: the layers on the wall, the colors of rammed earth, the exposed concrete, the steel frame, and glazing We believe the quality of the material should be somehow revealing the devotional qualities of yoga.

Filtered light gently illuminated above from the ceiling, through translucent PC panel, and lights up the entire practice space. PV panel setting on the top of roof in-between each tiny light hole to produce the electricity required daily.

Light and shade, water and land, material and transcendence, the mountain back and valley front. And then, suddenly, the yoga space becomes mysterious. When water feature growing out from the wall, the rammed earth revealed chronological differ ence, as water erodes one side. We loved the idea that occupants can enjoy the space with dif ferent spatial qualities. Sunlight trickles in through narrow slits or through the gaps we left open between the roof panel. Daylight and landscape flood into the practice space through the giant window. The changing light of days and seasons gives texture and shape to the surfaces of rammed earth, water, and landscape.

There are several ponds and water features located at the site to not only produce architectural and esthet ically quality, but to store additional water during the rainy day. Grey and black water system are also used in the building to maintain low water usage. As the water pound is located at the backside of the site, with its high thermal mass, it will stay cool and lower the indoor tem perature of the adjacent space

rather than building a new structure upon, I’d love to renovate the underground car parking area. The structured columns are the metaphors of a tree, the material uses the Sydney sandstone, which is laying around the site, the atmosphere of the site reminds. In this area, visitors can escape from the skyscraper and enjoy a traditional Australian lifestyle – outdoor living. Surrounding by tress and sandstone – an recall of tradition life.

A horizon line appears in visitors’ eyes, sky and water attached, the land hags water. My willingness is catching the line on the site. In the construction of Sydney CBD, skyscrapers ruin the beautiful landscape, we cannot overlook the landscape due to the blocking of the concrete box. I’m imagining a new way to impact the site, building underground rather than upper level.

Barangaroo is our site which is a peninsula area in the north-south corner of Sydney centre. A site surrounded by sea on three sides, a relative higher landscape provides views to the sea horizon. The skyscraper sits behind, I’d love to have a park and buildings underground the resistant the processing of constructing high buildings. At least here, it does not block the view to harbour from the inner Therefore, city.

We’d love to explore the unique shadows carved out by the sun in the site: the ravine canyons have deep shadows that naturally grow; the shadows on the door openings and arch windows outline the texture of the village; The contrasting dark colors in cave dwellings are unique and heavy which is the shadow belongs to the north; the shadows stored in the cracks in the stone walls highlight the thickness of the site; the shadows sprinkled along the eaves on the main street translate the scale of the street. These shadows interpret everything in Xiadongzhai Village, giving the site its unique sense of heaviness. This precipitation from this is also deeply carved into the memories of local villagers. When we use space to trace the shadows of these places, the new design re-injects light into the originally gloomy space, creating a dialogue between the building, people and Andplaces.we have designed a part of the building we hope that villagers can join in, that is, each household can provide some tiles, use these tiles to form part of the building roof, together with the sunlight of the site, build tiles indoors piece of openwork pattern with shadow. Turn this element into a part of the soul of this village site, and bring it into the interior to convey the architectural characteristics of this village to the people who come and go to the restaurant, and at the same time to express our design concept.

It is a private commission by a property developer to design an sample room. The location is Huayuan District, Hunan province. The site is located between Huaguo mountain and a river in front. The client wants to have an apartment design that can suit their lifestyle and test in the small town. This project is the initial attempt at interior design. I’ve gained a certain understanding of all the drawing techniques and specifications in the process of completing this work and have also understood the differences in-between architectural designs. Although this project hasn’t been built, I’m still grateful for the opportunity provided to us by the owner. Apartment Private Home2018 Huan Yu Tian Cheng

The owner is a builder who can control the detail of construction. He asked to have a luxury sense of building with the idea of “less is more.” The local builder team have a relatively high skill which can construct beautiful detail. Therefore, we focused on the detail and joinery to renovate the original house.

We image the kitchen space function as transaction space between the old building and the new construction part. Passing by the corridor of the original building, the kitchen gives a view toward the back yard which extend the visual distance of the living space. Residents will feel that the backyard belongs to the living space. We’d love to bring a sense of outdoor living into the interior because outdoor life is one of the Australian dreams.

The graduating students in 2021 are unique. Unlike those graduating before, they have earned their degree mostly, if not entirely, from within the walls of their homes. This annual exhibition is our longawaited opportunity to share final studio projects. The exhibition celebrates each of us as individuals as we enter the profession. ARCHEX 2021, Unboxed, is inspired by the popular practice of ‘unboxing’ where a box is unpacked, and its contents displayed and reviewed. So, for us, boxes are not simply containers. Closed, they incite anticipation. Open they shape experience. They are galleries for presentation. Visitors experience the online exhibition in a space with cardboard. People iew Student’s work as individuals. Learn about projects and the ideas we explored by reading the catalogue, find out about the simple things, the kind people and the new habits, like latte art and crocheting that got us through 2021! A virtual exhibition, an opening box, join from all over the world.
