URBAN INFILL

ACADEMIC

The ground floor is an open area where stalls are installed with cooking stations so that customers can pick their raw ingredients and have the chef cook for them fresh off the grill. On the first floor, there’s a bakery, juice bar and a newspaper stall. The main feature on the first floor is the ramp that is leading up to the bar on top. Customers will have visual connectivity from the ramp to where the bakery is, this would increase the interaction between customers and customers. Underneath the ramps, there a the kitchen, pantry, storage and wine cellars. The wine cellars are open for the customers to explore and enjoy.

HORTICULTURAL ARTIST COLONY

HORTICULTURAL ARTIST COLONY Proposed Programme The proposed programme to the site - Taman Paramount is Horticultural Artist Colony. The artist colony would serves as a community centre not only to rejuvenate the area but also to unite the people who works, study and living in the nearby area to that one focul point. This colony would promote the park nearby - Aman Park which is one of the attraction in Taman Paramount. It will also encourage the neighbourhood and other stakeholder to continue develop and give a new breath of life to Taman Paramount, kick starting other possible new developments in PJ Old Town.

2014 SEMESTER 6

HORTICULTURAL ARTIST COLONY Taman Paramount The 8,000 SQM plot of land of the site is exactly where the iconic cinema is, which serves as a local community to that focul point. The site is surrounded by institutional centres like high schools, music schools and an accounting academy. Not only that, the demographic in Taman Paramount is very interesting compare to KL area which is always pack with younger generation. Taman Paramount offers a much down to earth demographics like people from their mid 30s working in the shophouses, families living in the residential surrounding this site because there are high schools within a 2km radius from our proposed site. It’s a very convenient area where everything is within one’s grasp.

Replacing the supermarket - Giant with an artist colony The idea is to replace the supermarket - Giant with an artist colony to give an upgrade to the site as well as the neighbourhood. In order to rejuvenate the neighbourhood, by introducing the artist colony, it would bring in more people to the neighbourhood. However at the same time, keep it as subtle as possible just so it won’t disturb the original peace within the neighbourhood.

JELUTONG MASTERPLANNING

CITY WITHIN A SWAMP

OUR IDEAS “plays an important role along side mother nature.”

JELUTONG MASTERPLANNING The idea is to create a swampy land that reminds us not only the importance of nature but also the value of a Real Penang Island since the Time of Francis Light’s. During his time, Light gave us a city in a trade of a swampy island, where development grows and population starts to raise. Little that we know, the land given to us was abused; replacing nature for more concrete jungles.

Having nature as our main priority inspired the team to create an ecological utopian society. An execution of replacing parts of a city for nature and the rest to be sustainable. A city built within a swamp; a perfect way to bring harmony between the wild and the civilized. The idea allows migrations of the wild life into a semi concrete jungle, providing a new experience for the people and also an important lesson of history and nature to the future generation.

CHILD CARE CENTRE

CHILD CARE CENTRE

REHDA YOUTH CHARITY PROJECT

VERITAS ARCHITECTS The Child Care Centre project is a charity project. it was originally an old single storey bungalow dedicated for to shelter domestic violence children making it a sanctuary for the children. In order to make them feel like home as well as including some required spaces that are needed to help the children.

2016 There are 16 children and the possibillity of growing numbers of children living there. So the renovation is to accomodate them as well as to make them feel safe. To allow children to move and play freely around the house, we have applied Japanese architectural ‘Inside Outside’ concept. Connecting the library, and play terrace to the courtyard, created a spacious area for the children to read, play and enjoy themselves while being close to nature. Sliding doors have also been installed at the dining area, to allow the children to enjoy themselves with nature while eating.

Inside Outside concept is used strongly in this space, blurring the lines between the library, the play terrace, dining area as well as the courtyard. Opening those sliding doors, the play terrace can turns into a reading space for the library as well to accomodate more children. As for the dining area, if the teachers would want to have a party for the children, the dining area can be used as a serving area while the care takers get to sit on the play terrace casually eating while looking over to the courtyard watching over the children when they play ourdoors. Reading and dining while being able to enjoy the nature.

TETRIS + LONGHOUSE CONCEPT TETRIS CONCEPT

THE TETRIS CONCEPT IS DERIVED FROM THE IBS SYSTEM, WHEREBY, HOUSES ARE STACKED ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER NOT ONLY FOR AESTHETIC VALUES BUT THEY ALSO EASY AND CHEAPER TO CONSTRUCT AND EXPAND. BY CREATING A UNIQUE PATTERN WHILE STACKING THEM ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER, NEGATIVE SPACES BETWEEN THE CONTAINERS / UNITS ENABLE SPACES LIKE GREENERIES & COMMUNAL SPACES. AS WELL AS ALLOWING NATURAL VENTILATION INTO THE BUILDING.

LONGHOUSE CONCEPT

PR1MA HOMES FOCUS ON THE LOW INCOME GROUP PROVIDING THEM AFFORDABLE HOUSING & ALSO TO FORM A COMMUNITY OF DIFFERENT FAMILY ETNICITY. THE IDEA IS SIMILAR TO THE TRADITIONAL AND HISTORICAL CONCEPT FROM EASTERN MALAYSIA WHICH IS THE LONGHOUSE. TRADITIONALLY THE LONGHOUSE IS BUILT TO UNITE THEIR COMMUNITY UNDER ONE ROOF. HENCE THE ADAPTATION OF THE LONG HOUSE IS THE MOST IDEAL FOR THE PRINCIPLES OF PR1MA HOUSING.

STUDIES + DIAGRAMS Massing diagrams to study how do we approach the site, from a buyer, developer’s view. Affordable housing normally gain more attention from the mass, that is why this would be a high density residential development.
