MERCAT DEL ENCANTS Main Roads Driving : 3 mins Bus : 1 - 2 mins
The iconic landmark in the Glories area. A continuous commercial area was designed with slightly in- clined planes intertwining and generating an endless loop which links stalls and small shops. The visitor’s experience is similar to a stroll through a pedestrian road.
ROOF
The new market is made unique by its roof, conceived as a sort of mirror and its distinctive architectural design.
It also satisfies another demand in that it incorporates a roof as a shelter from the sun and the rain. This is the purpose of the large roof over the new Encants market. It is also an icon of this market in the Glories area.

SECOND TRANSITIONAL SHOPHOUSES STYLE (LATE 1930S) THIS STYLE, FROM THE LATE 1930S ONWARDS, WAS A LITTLE LESS FLORID THAN ITS PREDECESSOR. IT COMBINED ASIAN AND EUROPEAN ARCHITECTURAL INFLUENCES, IN-足 CLUDING MALAY-足STYLE WOODEN EAVES, CORINTHIAN COLUMNS AND PILASTERS, FRENCH WINDOWS WITH TIMBER LOUVRES AND SEMICIRCULAR FANLIGHTS.

Employment Pattern + Transportation LATE SHOPHOUSES STYLE (1900 - 1940) THIS IS THE MOST SPECTACULAR STYLE PARTICULARLY IN THE USE OF ORNAMENTATION. THE TRI- PARTITE ARRANGEMENT OF THREE WINDOWS ON THE FAÇADE REDUCES THE ACTUAL WALL SPACE TO THE MINIMUM AND PROVIDES MAXIMUM VEN- VEN TILATION.
FIRST TRANSITIONAL SHOPHOUSES STYLE (EARLY 1900S) THE TWO STOREY STRUCTURES ARE BUILT TO THE STREET EDGE AND INCORPORATE A FIVE FOOT PE- DESTRIAN WALKWAY WHICH IS SUBSEQUENTLY KNOWN AS ‘FIVE FOOTWAY’ AND IS WELL EN- TRENCHED IN THE STYLE BY THE MIDDLE OF THE NINE- TEENTH CENTURY.
