Architecture has always played an important role in my life. My interest in Design and Architecture started when I was at a very young age. Due to my parents’ low financial income back in the 1990s, we can only afford a 500 sqft low cost apartment. The apartment has a huge impact on me, living in a small apartment triggers me to have interest in building design, eagerly wanting to change the liftstyle and the place that we lived in. Not only have that, throughout my childhood, my father whom work as a Mechanical Engineer would often bring home elements of his work. He often showed me that how creators like architects think to design buildings that encourage healthy lifestyle and heighten the lifestyle of our everyday life. I eagerly want to learn how all these ideas can be transform into something buildable; how a space is planned and designed to fit to the user’s need; how we can infuse technology and building materials with architecture to make the 1:1 scale art into a live-able, eye catching and pleasing building to use and to live in.

ARCHITECTURAL PROGRAMMING
ARCHITECTURAL PROGRAMMING BEGAN WHEN ARCHITECTURE BEGAN.
“
“
KEY FACTOR IN DECISION MAKING & DESIGN PROCESS OF HOW THE BUILDING IS GOING TO BE DESIGNED, BUILT & OCCUPIED.
“
Throughout my studies, my work has been more focus solely in the architectural program. The architectural program is the heart and the brain of the building design; it has given the building a soul and an identity to create spaces and ambience during the design process. From my point of view in architecture, architectural programming is always the main factor that allows me to create spaces and ambience which serve as the supporting columns for the architectural program.
005
ARCHITECTURAL PROGRAMMING Architecture often starts with pre-design phase of the project. Structures have always been based on programs. Architectural programming began when architecture began. It engages the entire stakeholder in a systematic process for decision making that uncovers and prioritises the underlying goals of the project and not to mention that it is also the key factor in the decision-making and design process of how the building is going to be designed, built and occupied. Besides that, it also helps me to define the project from many perspectives alongside with the legal requirements, site analysis into a comprehensive architectural program.
AP From my point of view, architectural programming often comes in a form as a solution accordingly to the site’s strength, weaknesses, opportunity and threats. The architectural programming could be a community centre to rejuvenate an old, abandoned area and to reconnect the young and the elderly together or a visitor interpretation centre to serves as a reminder of the past or history of the place. On the surface it seems easy to come up with a list of rooms and general sizes required for the architectural program proposed. However, in my opinion, effective programming will also seek the reasons behind each requirement. Hence, during the programming process, it is important to ask “why” for each need and each goal to create a successful high – performance building as well as to anticipate and prepare for future needs.

URBAN INFILL MARKET PLACE JALAN TUN H.S. LEE, KUALA LUMPUR
URBAN INFILL MARKET DESIGNED IS TO INCREASE INTERACTION BETWEEN CUSTOMERS & PEDESTRAINS IN THE SITE AS WELL AS BETWEEN CUSTOMERS AND CUSTOMERS WITHIN THE BUILDING. THE GROUND FLOOR IS AN OPEN AREA WHERE STALLS ARE INSTALLED WITH COOKING STATIONS TO ALLOW CUSTOMERS TO PICK THEIR FOOD FRESH SO THAT THE CHEF CAN PREPARE THEIR MEAL FRESH AND HAVE THEM SERVED ON THE FIRST AND SECOND FLOOR. THE FIRST & SECOND FLOOR ARE CONNECTED WITH RAMPS, CONNECTING THE BAKERY, JUICE BARS AND NEWSPAPER STALL TOGETHER. THE RAMP LEADS UP TO THE BAR ON THE SECOND FLOOR. CUSTOMERS WILL HAVE VISUAL CONNECTIVITY FROM THE RAMP TO THE BAKERY DOWN BELOW. THIS WOULD INCREASE INTERACTION
BETWEEN
CUSTOMERS
AND CUSTOMERS. GLASS PANELS ARE MAINLY USED AS THE DESIGN’S FACADE BECAUSE THIS IS TO INCREASE PERMEABILITY. PEDESTRAINS FROM OPPOSITE THE STREET CAN VIEW INTO THE BUILDING TO SEE THE ACTIVITIES HAPPENING IN THE BUILDING.

IN MY OPINION, TAMAN PARAMOUNT IS A LOVELY AND CONVENIENT SITE DUE TO ITS TOWN PLANNING, DEMOGRAPHICS & ITS LOCATION. I BELIEVE A HORTICULTURAL ARTISTS COLONY CAN REJUVENATE THE AREA BECAUSE IT CAN BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE ELDERLY AND THE YOUNGER GENERATION. HORTICULTURAL ART ADDRESSES ISSUES RELATED TO SCIENCE EDUCATION, YOUTH AND ADULT WELL BEING, CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING, AND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES AND AGRICULTURE. USING THE EXISITNG FACTORS ON SITE, HORTICULTURAL ART CAN SERVES AS A COMMUNITY CENTRE TO GATHER ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE SURROUNDING AREA TO THAT FOCUL POINT. ALLOWING KIDS AND YOUNGER GENERATION TO INTERACT MORE WITH THE ELDERLY WHILE SURROUNDING THEMSELVES WITH NATURE. YOUTH LEARN FROM ELDER COMMUNITY MEMBERS, WHO SHARE THEIR GARDENING PRACTICES, CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS, AND WISDOM ABOUT THEIR COMMUNITY.
