SHAHEENUPDATE

HAITI This update is for you who, we have found, really care for us. Some of you we may have met once, others, we have known our entire lifetime. We understand that we could just as easily use facebook, twitter, or email to write you individually. However, we want to offer a more personal touch in updating you about how our lives together, by the will of God, are progressing.

I had met during my internship in 2007. I was able to see all the children whirlwind month. I can at the Haitian Children’s hardly believe it is the Home (they have grown first week of June! Clockwise from that picture: Upclose look at the damage, Jiryis walking through the IDP camp, me with Teresa and her wonderful family, and a quick glance of the many tent cities that have popped up around Port au Prince.

We are getting used to the ENDLESS opportunities of great things to do here in the St. Louis area. We’ve been able to experience a St. Louis Cardinals game with our dear friends Joy and Sean Roemer....and even spend Memorial Day weekend with them in the pool! What a GREAT way to celebrate our 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

Act Justly. Love Mercy. Walk Humbly.

In our last update we mentioned how we absolutely LOVE our home church. This past month God has been answering prayers! As you know, we’ve been asking for prayer that both Jiryis and I would be able to obtain jobs in our fields, and that provides a better income. The LORD IS A GREAT PROVIDER! As of May 8th, you can find me working at Harvester Christian Church. I took on the position as a Ministry Assistant for the Adult Ministries Dept at the church. It has been quite the undertaking, but the Lord is teaching me a lot, and I am blessed to be working under some great mentors and Christian leaders.

! As we start our second year of marriage, we are excited to watch as God provides employment opportunities for Jiryis as well. Keep those prayers coming! If you ever need to contact me at the church or are interested in learning more about Harvester Christian Church, email me at: ashaheen@harvestercc.org

May was the month of transition that we had been preparing for. Jiryis and I both graduated! I am so proud of Jiryis, and it was such a joy to watch him walk across the stage. With the excitement of the next phase of life, came the sadness of having to say goodbye to our missionary friends, Marek and Elaine Mudrik (below). They have been on a one- year furlough from Czech Republic, and will be leaving again in July. We have enjoyed getting to know them over many dinners, and are greatful for the wisdom

they have spoken into our lives. We will miss you Marek and Elaine!

What’s to come... - We have officially moved, and look forward to getting acclimated to our new city. - We would LOVE house guests, so if you are in the St. Louis area, be sure to stop by! - We are anticipating Jiryis starting Graduate School at University of Missouri St. Louis in the fall!
