I
WE’VE COME A LONG WAY, BABY!
n the almost two-and-a-half decades since I first started publishing Hampton Sheet, the world has changed. When I began in the 1990s, it was—if you can believe it—a simpler time. The “World Wide Web” was something new. I still remember the discordant, almost screeching sound of my computer modem (ask your parents, kiddos) connecting to the Internet. September 11 had not happened. Androids and iPhones were not even a blip on the radar. And the thought of a global pandemic, like the one we’re still in, seemed more like something that took place in a Stephen King novel than in real life. Over the years, Hampton Sheet has been heralded by notables such as the New York Post’s Richard Johnson, Cindy Adams, Emily Smith, and Keith Kelly as the go-to magazine for the New York social circuit. We have also featured some of the biggest names in pop culture, philanthropy, and business, like Michael Bloomberg, Carl Icahn, Warren Buffett, Sofia Vergara, Jon Hamm, Bradley Cooper, Tom Cruise, Larry David, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, among many others. Even the late great syndicated columnist Liz Smith (The New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, New York Social Diary, Drudge Report) hailed Hampton Sheet a “booming boutique publication” and a “big hit.” And The Washington Post coined the magazine, “The ‘It’ publication of the Hamptons.” Times might have changed, but one thing that has remained constant is your ability to read Hampton Sheet. But constant doesn’t mean that there is no change. We have evolved through the years. Readers are elite, upscale, and ageless—and we’re committed to making sure that The Sheet gives them exactly what they want and need (even if they don’t know that they need it!). We are very proud of our July Fourth relaunch issue with a new look inside and out! Thanks to our amazing advertisers and contributors, this issue is our largest to date! We are also very excited about our new deputy editor, Sydney Sadick (formerly of Hamptons and The Daily Front Row), who will be bringing new content to our younger readers. Of course, some things still remain the same, including our traditional mix of entertainment, business, philanthropy, and party pages (although since the pandemic, parties have been few and far between. But it’s all coming back, big time—stay tuned!). Our cover this month features Stephanie Nass, aka Chefanie—a creative and talented culinary influencer in the world of food and home entertainment. She’s also known as the “millennial” Martha Stewart. And on the entertainment front, Hampton Sheet is celebrating one of NYC’s most intriguing residents (and a longtime friend of mine): former Vanity Fair contributor George Wayne. For more than two decades, Wayne or “GW” to his friends (and enemies), not only remastered and redefined the art of the celebrity question-and-answer format, but his interview style is known for leading to more confessions than a skilled CIA interrogator. We figured, given his interview prowess, who would be better to interview George Wayne than…himself! Over the years, this glossy print magazine has been exclusively distrib-
HAMPTON SHEET
uted to the nation’s most affluent readers, with its primary luxury demographic located in New York, the Hamptons, and Palm Beach. Starting this summer, you can pick up the magazine, not only at your favorite restaurant or store in the Hamptons, but we’ll also be in the boxes along Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side. And make sure to check out our events calendar—after a long state of disquietude and conducting things virtually, it looks like we’re gearing up toward a fun summer—with more and more happenings returning. The Hamptons is on fire! Now have lots of fun and play safe, kiddies—and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do (that’s a short list!). And always be camera-ready. You never know when you might be featured in The Sheet! NEWS FLASH! Stay tuned for the Manhattan Sheet coming this fall! Enjoy!

IT'S TIME TO SHINE
ummer is officially in full swing, and the Hamptons feels more exciting than ever! Just look at all the new stores (tons of them!), restaurants, and people—there’s a major buzz, and it’s exhilarating. If there’s any summer to bring out your inner sparkle, this is it, so let’s do it! I have been summering Out East since I was born, making the Hamptons my second home. It’s been the backdrop to my most cherished memories with family and friends, as well as elements of my career. But this past year marked a whole other level of connection that I’ve felt toward this special community, having lived in Southampton full-time with my mother and brother for more than a-year-and-a-half at the height of the pandemic. It was our safe haven, and an experience I will never forget. I’d like to thank everyone from Keith at The Golden Pear to Sam from The Hampton Grocer to Dan at The Fudge Company and so many others for making things easier and simply being so kind at a time that was truly scary. It means the world to me.
I must say, a lot has happened from my bedroom in my mom’s Southampton house during this time! I started a daily Instagram Live show (Lunchtime With Sydney); created a spin-off for the Today show’s TMRWxTODAY platform; released my debut motivational book, Aim High; collaborated on three athleisure capsules; and most recently, took on the position of deputy editor at Hampton Sheet, a role that I am beyond excited about! Hampton Sheet Founder, Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief Joan Jedell told me at around 12 years old that I was going to be on television. She also told me that I was going to work with her one day. Well, she was right about both! This summer, we’re thrilled to target the next wave of luxury-obsessed Hamptonites through fresh content and storytelling, building on what Hampton Sheet is already known for (providing insight into the who’s who of society, philanthropy, and entertainment) with an additional nod to fashion, lifestyle, fitness, and more. We’re truly focusing on the people and places that make up our wonderful Hamptons—and let me tell you, we’re here to make a splash. Like I always say: Go big or go home! I’m also excited to host this year’s annual Hamptons Fashion Week event at the Southampton Arts Center in August—boy, does it feel great to be out and about again! The excitement begins with our cover star, the mega-talented and stunning Stephanie Nass—millennial food entrepreneur of the moment who has built her incredibly impressive Chefanie brand and shares the summer entertaining tips we’ve all been craving. We shot locally in the Hamptons at the beautiful LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, a must-see if you haven’t been already. Also! Meet our latest contributor Kate Bock, Sports Illustrated model and innovator, debuting her new column, Kate’s Korner. Get the scoop on BLADE’s newest air-travel service targeting millennials going between Montauk and NYC called Montauk Sky—its history is incredibly interesting. Peruse stories like an exclusive interview between Larry Milstein and the newly appointed director of the Parrish Art Museum, Kelly Taxter, plus fun moments with Katie Lee Biegel, Isaac Boots, and so many other influential voices. There’s so much to take in. I can’t wait for you to read it all! And a big thank you to all our brand partners who have joined us in marking this next chapter for Hampton Sheet. Each and every brand featured in this magazine has made such an impact in their respective categories—check them out! So now, it’s time to turn the page and enjoy the biggest issue of Hampton Sheet to date! We’re ecstatic to be your go-to read this summer, and even past this summer… (Yep, there’s so much more coming. Just wait!) Here’s to a summer of fun, good health, and lots of celebration. We deserve it! xo

Refresh us on how Blue & Cream got started! I had the hottest club in the Hamptons at the time, Star Room. We threw the infamous Diddy White Parties, but there was nowhere to get fresh gear in the Hamptons. Streetwear and sneaker culture was crystalizing in the streets of NYC, so we created the store as a platform to showcase New York designers in the Hamptons. Who were your first celebrity clients? Russell Simmons and Tara Reid were at the opening. We gained notoriety with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in the early years, then Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. We had a grown-up moment with Gwyneth Paltrow and the Steven Spielberg and Paul McCartney crew, and after 18 years have found our niche as the place for anyone who is someone to see and be seen in the Hamptons. What’s new at the store this summer? We launched Bossi for men, a rock ’n’ roll streetwear collection from the original Amiri designer, and we’re dropping our second season of the Tile Club exclusive cashmere sets. How do you help customers develop their personal style? I always start with “Where are you going?” I tell them, “Don’t bend your style; dress your own style for the situation.” I like to make sure clients will feel comfortable when they’re home alone looking in the mirror, so they can be confident walking out into the world. What’s next for Blue & Cream? We’re launching a new location on Madison Ave in the city. It’ll be sort of like a private client studio that will focus on the experience for our loyalists. ¢

T
he Hamptons is my happy place! It’s become a part of my life that I love and look forward to, and this year, I was lucky enough to start the season early for a photo shoot in May. My fiancé, Kevin Love, and I decided to buy a second home here last year, and I still pinch myself because I can call this beautiful place “home!” The beaches, kayaking, hiking, and the Montauk lighthouse, which is just beautiful…is there anything better?! Walks on the beach with my puppy, Vestry, are also so special to me, looping from Atlantic Beach to Indian Wells where she can run off leash;
watching her have so much fun brings a smile to my face, and hers, too! Kevin and I are definitely foodies, and the Hamptons has no shortage of amazing places to dine. I love eating healthy and try to eat only fresh food,
so if it comes directly from a farmstand—like Amber Waves—even better! For dinner, we love Tutto il Giorno in Sag Harbor; it’s quaint and romantic, perfect for unwinding with a glass of wine and catching up. I’m super excited about bringing my business, Love Kate, to the Hamptons. During COVID, modeling and shoots were on hold, so it was the perfect time to work hard on my brand. Pompette—a clean and premium hard sparkling water featuring four refreshing flavors: rosé hibiscus, lemon mint, cucumber lime, and clementine berry—recently named me chief brand officer, and maybe one

day it will be available everywhere Out East! I’ve also been working with one of my favorite swimsuit lines, Bond-Eye, in Australia. Stay tuned for the details on social media soon! Love Kate and I are growing together. At the outset of my career, I struggled with selfconfidence, and I had to stand up for myself and go to auditions in a cut-throat industry. It’s so important to love yourself and not compare yourself to others. The peace in the Hamptons helps me focus on staying true to myself; there’s a calming influence that keeps me coming back. With interests spanning from design, photography, health, and wellness to helping others, one thing that helps me pull it all together is mood boards—I’m obsessed with them! It’s invigorating to pull together images that can create a beautiful mood and then visualizing the possibility of its success. If you haven’t already, you should give it a try! I get so many ideas from creating these boards—you should see my wedding mood board! On a final note, giving back is also super important to me. As an entrepreneur, this has allowed me to align my beliefs: Everyone should have access to—and education about— healthy food. This starts in schools, so I’ve partnered with Wellness in the Schools, an organization that aims to provide healthier environments for children. We show children how to eat colorful, fresh foods and why it’s important to treat and feed their bodies as they’re growing. Life is moving at such a fast pace, and I really don’t want to miss anything! The Hamptons is now a place Kevin and I call home, and I’m proud to be part of this friendly community. Don’t be surprised if you find us chasing after Vestry on the beach this summer! ¢

JENNIFER FISHER
Your guide to what’s trending for the next gen of Hamptonites…
It’s been a big year for multihyphenate talent Jennifer Fisher. The accessories designer, who’s the founder and creative director of her eponymous jewelry brand, continues to wow fashion lovers with her swoony-worthy baubles, a new storefront in Los Angeles, an ongoing collaboration with CB2 that hones in on her passion for food— just check out her Instagram account @JenniferFisherKitchen—and much more. Read on for our chat!
BY EMILY JEDELL Emily Jedell: How did you go from designing a necklace in celebration of your son’s birth to creating one of the most sought-after jewelry lines? Jennifer Fisher: After my son, Shane, was born, I received jewelry gifts to represent him in the form of single letters that were very dainty and not very me. His birth was a major deal for us, and I wanted something to wear that expressed my personal style. When I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I designed a dog tag charm with Shane’s named stamped on the front with a long, thick link chain. I was a wardrobe stylist for 10 years and worked on feature films, TV shows, and commercials in both New York and Los Angeles. I’d wear my dog tag on set and the necklace organically became a conversation piece. A hairstylist who was working with Uma Thurman suggested I make something for Uma that represented her kids. She wore it on the cover of Glamour, which helped catapult my brand! When the orders started overflowing from the tiny desk in my bedroom to my dresser, my husband said, “I think it’s time to make this a real business,” and Jennifer Fisher was born! What were you like as a child? I’ve always been a hustler. I’ve had businesses since I was 5. JJ Button Ears was my first— simple classic buttons epoxied onto earring posts. My mother still has the original prototypes that we walked around and sold store-tostore in Santa Barbara. For me, life is business, and even though the businesses have been different along the way, the premise of them all has been the same—work hard, play hard.
14
As a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, what do you think is the most important thing to teach the next generation about design and entrepreneurship? I think the most important thing to teach the next generation is that they actually have to work—and work hard. What brings you the most joy? I would say being in the kitchen and cooking for my family. People also love following your cooking adventures on Instagram. What was the inspiration behind your salt line? The salt began like my jewelry collection; it was a happy accident. The reason my salt is unique is because I formulated it, unlike most traditional seasonings, to not have garlic or onion in it. I wanted something that you could eat in the morning that didn’t have an overpowering flavor. I call it Universal Salt because it can be used on everything. After the launch of my Universal Salt, I wanted to expand the line first to something that felt spicier but wasn’t hot, so I formulated the Spicy Salt. After that I wanted something that felt a little earthier. Curry is one of my favorite flavors, so it was a natural progression to go from Spicy to our Curry Salt. What’s next for your brand? We’re excited to launch the third phase of our collaboration with CB2. This collection is more kitchen-oriented based off the success of the @jenniferfisherkitchen account. Additionally, we opened our Los Angeles flagship store in February, and I’m excited about the prospect of opening more stores across the country! ¢

HAMPTONS VISIONARY WELCOME KELLY TAXTER, THE NEW DIRECTOR OF THE PARRISH ART MUSEUM
Calling all art enthusiasts! Kelly Taxter, the highly impressive new director of the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, is starting an exciting new chapter in the history of the museum. In conversation with Larry Milstein, who serves on the board of trustees, Taxter enlightens us on what you can expect this summer.
BY LARRY MILSTEIN
Larry Milstein: Tell us about your background leading up to your new role at the Parrish! Kelly Taxter: After graduating from Bard College, I opened my gallery—Taxter & Spengemann [with Pascal Spengemann]—in the front room of my Chelsea apartment. After nine years, I chose to pursue my career in an institutional setting. I worked independently as consulting curator at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and in 2013, I joined the Jewish Museum in NYC, where I held the first endowed and named position of curator of contemporary art. Every step in my career has led me to this position, leading a great institution like the Parrish Art Museum. What excites you most about this new chapter? I’m most excited about finding what role the Parrish can play in the future, here within our regional community and globally. It’s a privilege to lead the institution forward at a time of great social change. Museums are more vital
16
than ever to their communities. My goal, as we emerge from a challenging year and a half, is to assure that the Parrish remains a vital meeting point for critical dialog, inspiration, and healing, and that we always embrace creativity and bold thinking. In your view, what makes the Parrish Art Museum unique among cultural institutions and museums? We have a great history, from our beginnings in the late 19th century in Southampton Village to our move in 2012 to our iconic building designed by Herzog & de Meuron. The Parrish is in a landmark location with a rich artistic legacy, has a world-class collection, and sits on a gorgeous field, ripe with opportunities. It’s in a unique position to grow and offer even more than it has for decades. What exhibitions are you most excited to debut this summer? Every exhibition on view and coming up this summer is simply extraordinary! Affinities for Abstraction: Women Artists on Eastern Long Island, 1950–2020, begins with first-generation abstract expressionist artists like Helen Fran-
HAMPTON SHEET
kenthaler and Lee Krasner, as well as underrepresented practitioners from that period, and continues to the present with 19 contemporary artists working today. Everything That Wasn’t White: Lonnie Holley at the Elaine de Kooning House, on view through September 6, shows paintings, works on paper, and sculptures that Holley created during his 2020 residency in East Hampton. Tomashi Jackson: The Land Claim, opening July 11, addresses the fraught history of land ownership and access for communities of color on the South Fork. Late summer brings another icon: Roy Lichtenstein: History in the Making, 1948–1960, opening August 1, is the first major museum exhibition to investigate the early work of the artist who had a deep connection to the East End. How has the Parrish adapted in a post-COVID-19 environment? I’m happy to report that we’ve returned to regular operating hours, and our capacity for visitors continues to expand. The museum staff, who maintained and continued tirelessly to bring innovative programs, workshops, tours, and
J U LY 2 0 2 1
classes online when people needed it most, has jumped right back in with a full array of new offerings in person and hybrid. What are some of your longer-term goals for the Parrish? Our work with the architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron signals a commitment to design. I’m looking at what we might offer in the realm of design, perhaps exhibitions and programming around architecture or design of furniture or fashion. How are plans for the Parrish’s annual Midsummer Party shaping up? First, we’re excited that Tomashi Jackson will be this year’s honoree! In response to the pandemic and as an evolution of our most important yearly fundraising event, the summer gala takes a new shape and happens at a new time this year. Over the weekend of August 13, 14, and 15, our friends and supporters can attend a Friday night party, a Saturday evening dinner, and programming for families on Sunday afternoon. We’re still working out the weekend’s full details and will release those as soon as possible! ¢

EGO vs ID The outspoken celebrity
commentator dishes on his juiciest summers Out East in an exclusive interview with himself. Tea will be spilled!
T
he “ego,” any proper dictionary will tell you, is a person’s sense of his own worth and self-importance. The “id” is part of the unconscious mind consisting of a person’s basic inherited instincts, needs, and feelings. You can just imagine that GW versus GW will not be a boring exercise. Let’s roll the tape! George Wayne: Take us back to your first trip to the Hamptons! George Wayne: As the saying goes, you never forget your first time. It was the July 4th weekend of 1991 at my friend Scott Currie’s. The most profound memory was playing the role of the pompous arriviste to the hilt, parading all over Main Street window-shopping and wearing nothing but a terry cloth bathrobe! I was doing all that way before Cardi B ever had the notion. And I’ll tell you one thing, bishes! I never popped another quaalude after that crazy day! [Laughs] I even sported the bathrobe look to a party later that night where thenex-governor of NY Hugh Carey danced like a madman all over the dance floor at some posh estate. What do you look forward to Out East each summer? I visit the “Shamptons” on the rare occasion that I get an invitation,

BY GEORGE WAYNE but I always try to at least spend one weekend at Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor. It’s a divine hotel property, and it’s a two-minute stroll to dinner at the snobby Le Bilboquet, which is always a must. There may also be a weekend spent at the Southampton Inn this season; I hear it’s undergone updating. I could see myself doing nothing else but tearing through the glut of glossy Hamptons magazines, sloshing down Bloody Mary’s by the pool, and exhausting my Spotify playlist or tuning into the only NPR station on Long Island, WLIW-FM 88.3. You wrote a critically acclaimed quasi-memoir, Anyone Who’s Anyone: The Astonishing Celebrity Interviews 1987–2017. How did it do? It never made the NYT best-sellers list, which still pisses me off to this day! But the reviews were great. So as long as I’m on this planet, I will still be able to boast that the esteemed opinion writer for the paper, Nicholas Kristof, reviewed my book for the Book Review section. What upsets me these days is the fact that the new editor of Vanity Fair, in all her fake woke glory, never saw fit to renew my contract. If she was so interested in the best talent and spouting diversity, why isn’t my byline part of her Vanity

Fair? So yes, if you think I’m bitter about this, consider that a mere understatement. She is an absolute joke, the worst editor in the history of Vanity Fair, as far as I’m concerned. Yes, I just said that. And don’t call me bitter. Just call me twisted and telling it like it is. Recall for us some of your strangest celebrity interviews ever. Faye Dunaway was an absolute nightmare to interview! A total cuckoo’s nest of an experience with that legendary Hollywood diva who kept hanging up the phone on me whenever I asked a question she didn’t like. Jon Bon Jovi was another nightmare. I hate doing interviews on the phone, but the magazine was never going to fly me. So I called Bon Jovi—he was on the road with his band. He was in such a foul mood, and I couldn’t help but quip, “What’s wrong, buddy? Are you having a bad hair day?” He was so furious that he refused to sit for the accompanying photo shoot, and we ended up having to use an illustration. But my all-time favorite twilight zone moment was going to Washington, D.C. in 1996 to interview the then-senator’s wife, Arianna Huffington. We sat for lunch at Galileo restaurant. It was all going rather swell until I softly asked, “Arianna, can we talk

about your gay husband?’’ It was the worst-kept secret in D.C., but it sent her over the edge. She grabbed my microcassette recorder and dropped it in her purse and ran for the door squealing, “This interview is over!” Page Six had a field day! What about your favorite celebrity interviews? I always enjoyed the interview with Sarah, Duchess of York, aka Fergie. We sat to speak at this fusty old-world hotel in Virginia horse country. I love Fergie! Of the more than 300 famous people I’ve interviewed, she was one of a handful to write a thank-you note and send a gift. Neil Diamond was another favorite. Do you believe, as Meghan Markle says, the first word her son, Archie, spoke was “crocodile”? I don’t believe anything that comes out of the mouth of that Muppet. She is the fakest of the fake. I find her to be a total fraud, and nothing more than a calculating A-list wannabe. What she’s done to the House of Windsor is just reprehensible. And if Harry thinks he’s ever going to be happy moving to Montecito to hang out with Oprah…well, he has another story coming. Mark my words, GW is rarely wrong with his astute perspective. I have nothing kind to say about Meghan, or as I refer to them both, “The Ginge and the Cringe.” Now finish that dish with some micro cilantro, bishes! So, what’s next for GW? I’m pursuing my own line of CBD beauty products that I have devised in consultation with leading beauty chemists and scientists to bring to market by winter 2021. I’m also excited to see the debut of the Showtime documentary that Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are dropping. It’s about the golden age of gossip and the major gossipmongers who defined the go-go ’80s and ’90s in NYC. It’s going to feature all the icons—Cindy Adams, Richard Johnson, and yours truly. I’ve also been working on my third book, Simply Georgeous. ¢

Your guide to the hottest page-turners of summer…
AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT
ZIBBY OWENS For Zibby Owens, reading isn’t just her passion; it’s her world. The host of the award-winning podcast Mom’s Don’t Have Time to Read Books has become one of the most influential names in the literary world, interviewing both up-and-coming names and major celebs (Alicia Keys, Lena Dunham) to give her busy listeners the inside scoop. Also a writer, Owens’ own book, Moms Don’t Have Time To: A Quarantine Anthology, is a major hit in its own right. Here’s how she continues to set the bar high, one page-turn at a time!
BY SYDNEY SADICK Sydney Sadick: Where did your passion for books and reading originally stem from? Zibby Owens: My parents [Ellen Philips Katz and Stephen Schwarzman] are both huge readers. There were stacks of books all over my house growing up— and still are in my dad’s office/closet! My mom used to read to me and once I learned how to do it myself, I just fell in love with reading. How did you go from never having listened to a podcast to hosting a top-rated show of your own? I don’t even know! [Laughs] I decided to try doing what would be interesting to me, not what would appeal to other people. I figured if I had questions that I wanted authors to answer, other people would probably feel the same way. So I just did whatever I wanted. And then I used my marketing background to figure out ways to grow my community. What are your top tips for moms and others to make reading more of a priority? Always have a book nearby. Get excited about something to read by listening to a podcast or getting to know the author. Read with friends. Join a book club! What’s it like seeing your own book, Moms Don’t Have Time To: A Quarantine Anthology, in the front window of Barnes & Noble and other bookstores around the country? It’s amazing! Such a huge thrill. I can’t even explain it. I was jumping up and down! What do you want people to take away from your book? That they’re not alone. That we’re all in this together. And that there are many authors whose names they might not know who are truly fabulous writers.
20
How are you expanding your Moms Don’t Have Time brand into other categories? I’ve recently launched Moms Don’t Have Time to Grieve and Travel, plus the Moms Don’t Have Time to Have Sex podcast. I’m writing more books, like Moms Don’t Have Time to Have Kids, and I’m hosting a retreat in November! The Hamptons is home to some of the greatest authors. How does the area inspire you? I love going to the Hamptons. I’ve been going since 1979 when my family’s home was surrounded by potato fields. I love the light. The open fields. The farmsteads. The fresh air. The roar of the ocean. It’s all inspiring. Plus, BookHampton and the East Hampton Library are amazing. I love Authors Night at the library. I’ve been going for years and now this year, I’ll be an author there! What’s on your summer reading list? Where the Grass Is Green and the Girls are Pretty, by Lauren Weisberger; Animal, by Lisa Taddeo; and Summer on the Bluffs, by Sunny Hostin. Favorite spot to read? In my bed! For those who get frustrated when they just can’t get into a book, what’s your advice? Get to know the author more. It’ll add a whole new layer of meaning to the reading experience. Looking ahead, what are you working on in your next chapter of life? Writing my memoir! I just sold The Book Messenger to Little A, a division of Amazon Publishing, which will be released in fall/winter 2022. ¢

Creative, talented, a force to be reckoned with—Stephanie Nass, aka Chefanie, is a millennial mastermind who has built her career in the worlds of food and entertaining as a chef, caterer, designer, and culinary influencer. Let’s dig into her story! BY SYDNEY SADICK

Sydney Sadick: How did you turn your passion for all things food into a full-fledged career? Stephanie Nass: Passion is the result of nature and nurture; family, friends, and early travels cultivated my passion for food. The rest was hard-wired! I couldn’t live without cooking, hosting, and designing—or without a livelihood. My twenties were about turning my creative vision into a business through dedication, research, and some fortuitous opportunities. After college, I started making art-inspired meals for my friends and their friends. The project turned into Victory Club, a roving arts and dining club that brings young professionals together over the culinary and visual arts. We suspended programming during lockdown but are glad to revive it this summer, safely! What’s the backstory behind your brand name, Chefanie? Chefanie, the contraction of chef and Stephanie, started as a childhood nickname, first articulated by my brother, Teddy. When I started my business, it was the most immediate idea for a brand name, and it stuck! Chefanie is a culinary-driven lifestyle brand that offers products and services. Products are tableware, accessories, and baking kits; services include catering and consulting. Many look at you as the millennial Martha Stewart. Do you like that? I take it as a great compliment! You’ve worked with some of the biggest names in fashion and lifestyle… I love all my clients and am proud of what we’ve done together. From custom cookies for Dior to a beauty campaign with Bobbi Brown to cooking demos with Samsung to BMW-sponsored Victory Club events, it all ends up beautiful and deeply fulfilling. 2016 marked the birth of your dessert accessory, Chefanie Sheets. What sparked the concept? It was a struggle to customize art-inspired cakes for Victory Club, and once I cracked the nut, I wanted to share the hack with others. Now the $20 edible cake
sheets are available for global shipping, so people can whip up impressive treats in a jiff. How did this change the game for your brand? It widened the geography of whom we could help. Overnight, Chefanie went from catering in New York and the Hamptons to shipping packages anywhere that UPS services.
It’s been a year without dinner parties, and now we’re all excited to entertain again. What are your top tips for being the ultimate host this summer? Invite people in a way Cookies and that surprises them! Chefanie sheets by Stephanie Nass Challenge yourself to plan a menu that is locally sourced. Serve abundant desserts. Get meticulous about the details. Plan in a way that remains COVID compliant! You frequently match your clothing to your table settings. What goes into creating these looks? Whenever I print table linens, I make extra fabric to turn into clothing. Wherever I am, I meet local tailors who help me sew my
dreams into reality. When there isn’t time to sew something new, I twist a napkin or tablecloth into a shirt or dress and add a belt or pin. And we can’t forget your incredible line of earrings. They’re hostess outfit perfection! They’re designed with the principle of matchimalism in mind. They match menu items or tableware, so that a host’s outfit can cohere with the rest of the event. You’re the host who gets every detail down, even hand-painting your own menus. Until hosting is second nature and the hosting muscle is formed, it helps to make thorough check lists. I recommend imagining an event from the perspective of each guest and through each of the five senses. Keep in mind other parties Continued on page 24

JARRET + CRYSTAL WILLIS, BLUE ONE
Describe Blue One! We’ve been one of the most high-end and sought-after contemporary boutiques for men and women offering great style and customer service since 2007, hand-curating the newest in upcoming fashion designers and trends from around the world. How has Blue One evolved? We went from being edgy to realizing who our client was and dialing it down. Customer service came naturally to us and is what we love. We want you to come in and shop, but let’s also get to know each other. Tell us where you like to eat, travel, and how you live. We knew that we needed to hone in on our clients’ needs while staying true to who we were as a company. What’s it like to have customers back in-store?! We’re so excited! We’ve had people
break down in our dressing rooms or get teary-eyed just walking into our store again for the first time since COVID. Top summer trends? Sustainability and upcycling. It’s going to be like the Roaring Twenties, baby! Party time! Favorite off-day activity? Beach walks with our 19-month-old!
How did you start TEREZ? From the basement of my parents’ home! I had recently gone through a dark time in my life and needed to create something that made me happy. I wasn’t exactly sure what it was going to be, but I needed to just start. What does TEREZ mean? The name was created by my mom after my two grandmothers passed away before I was born. The “TER” is for Teresa + “EZ” is for Eleanor Zimmerman = TEREZ.
What is TEREZ known for? Our happy pants! Our leggings are known for their bright and colorful prints. Our mission is to celebrate the good moments in our world, and the colors and vibrance are what we use to express that. Favorite collab? Our collaboration with Isaac Boots was so natural and organic. We met through a mutual friend. If you can take the best part of both partners and meld them together, that’s when you create something that is truly magical. You’re a mom of three. How do you do it all?! I don’t believe in balance. Something is always going to fall, so I just do my best to prioritize, pick up the pieces, and keep going!

IN THE KNOW
EAST END REAL TALK! It’s no secret that the Hamptons real estate market is booming, and at the center of helping many Hamptonites find their dream home is Hamptons power broker Tim Davis. Known for selling some of the finest properties in the East End for more than 40 years, Davis gives us the 411 on the hottest properties and beyond. Hit it! Tim Davis
Sydney Sadick: You’re an icon in the East End real estate market, selling some of the finest properties at Corcoran in the Hamptons. What do you attribute to your longevity in the business? Tim Davis: At an early age, I chose a career that quickly developed into a lifestyle. I genuinely enjoy what I do and commit myself to 24/7 engagement! Tell us what the Hamptons real estate market looks like this summer! I expect that the market will continue to thrive, though sales volume will be less because so much of our inventory was sold last year. We’re in a seller’s market that is filled with an educated buyer pool—keeping list prices in check is important for keeping the market moving. How did the pandemic affect your business? For me, it was helping new and old clients to find the ideal rental or sale as a safe haven from what was happening in New York City. At the same time, I was assisting with filling the need for long-term permanent housing and managing new lifestyle expectations. What’s your magic touch in helping clients find their dream home? One needs to listen to what the client is saying and over time, one gets better at reading between the lines. Is it true that many have made the Hamptons their primary residence as a result of COVID? Nearly 6,000 families decided to

BY SYDNEY SADICK make the East End their primary residence last year. Our schools are full of new students, and our businesses are serving a community of new and robust spenders for goods and services locally. Wow! What’s trending in what buyers are looking for today? A place for everyone—home office space, recreation areas, and enough beds for family and friends. Waterfront properties throughout the market are very much in demand. That slice of heaven has become a sought-after commodity in all locations. What about design-wise? Modern is still popular, though
there are extremes in the execution of this element on the exterior of homes. For the most part, though, most buyers today want clean, open, and modern interior spaces. How should millennials determine whether they should rent to start or invest in a first home? This is strictly based upon finances. Interest rates are still low; however, the rules of real estate still apply—location, location, location! Buying to own should still have a sensible approach to resale. Real talk: Have you ever considered doing a real estate reality show? I was a guest on Million Dollar
Listing Los Angeles seven years ago. It was a fun experience, though not one I would necessarily be interested in repeating on a regular basis. When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing Out East? My favorite thing is taking advantage of my Barton & Gray membership with a boat ride to lunch at Duryea’s in Orient with family and friends. I also enjoy a beach clambake and bonfire or a great meal with my wife on the porch of The American Hotel. Sounds lovely! P.S. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you? I never got a college degree! ¢
PLUS! MEET THOMAS PRESTON DAVIS…
The VP of sales and licensed real estate broker at the office of Tim Davis gets candid! Sydney Sadick: How did you originally get into real estate? Thomas Davis: I always knew I would pursue real estate as a part of my career path. At a certain point, I realized that the best way to learn and make the most of that option was to give 100 percent of my time to the business as a full-time profession. We have to know. Do people always assume that you and Tim are related (even though you’re not)? All the time! Past and new clients and even some agents have assumed we’re related. What have you learned from working with Tim over the past five years? The No. 1 point I try to emulate is his ability to articulate why being and owning in the Hamptons is such a lifestyle enhancement. I think that comes with being here and

experiencing what this region has to offer, from a natural beauty perspective and as a community. What’s your go-to lunch break spot Out East? I’m a lunch-on-the-fly kinda guy. You’ll usually find me at The Village Gourmet Cheese Shoppe or Sean’s Place grabbing a sandwich and always with coffee in hand from Sant Ambroeus. What’s the biggest misconception about the Hamptons real estate market? That anyone can get a real estate license and automatically become an overnight success. Reality TV has certainly given an unrealistic perspective on what actually goes on in the daily trenches. It’s easy to get caught up in that mindset and think there are shortcuts to success. We’re building long-term meaningful relationships that sometimes pay off many years later. Thomas Davis

Sydney Sadick: How did you decide to become an interior designer? Elsa Soyars: I grew up in a remote village in Portugal and have always loved the sense of home. I rearranged furniture in my house from the age of 8, so when I came to the U.S. at 20, I went to design school for formal training. Interior design was the only natural career choice for me. My profession is like second nature to me.
Describe your design aesthetic. It’s elevated. I love mixing furnishings and décor; no matter what you’re purchasing—from CB2 to vintage pieces—it should always look aesthetically pleasing, chic, and comfortable. How do you make a client’s dream home come true? The process starts with an evaluation of the client’s lifestyle, wishes, and wants. I assess their tastes and what they’re missing. I want to present something that they can-

When we organize our homes, we open the door to so many more possibilities, energetically. In the past year, I’ve been adding in more crystals. They’re beautiful and bring good vibes. Hottest décor trends right now? Stone elements in furnishings and lamps. A lot of the French furnishing designs have been invading the market, and we’re seeing architectural stone design tables, marble, accessories, and furnishings that have curves. HERE’S THE HAMPTONS’ ULTIMATE POWER PLAYER Get to know David Hryck, an East End mega attorney, known for redefining international biz and beyond…
W
hen I walked into the Core Club to meet David Hryck, I must admit I was expecting someone much more formal than the man who greeted me in a black T-shirt and jeans. He was chic, relaxed, and funny. It was clear Hryck is not your typical power attorney. As partner and head of international business at the prestigious Duane Morris law firm, with more than 30 offices worldwide, Hryck is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, and French, and conversant in Mandarin. And to no surprise, he’s one of the world’s most sought-after strategic attorneys in international business. Hryck’s client roster is heavyhitting and as diversified as he is, representing celebrities, entertainers, sports legends, designers, global companies, individuals, and international families. When pressed to disclose his roster, he remains tight-lipped and smiles. But one can only imagine! While he remains hush-hush on his client roster, he’s more than happy to talk about his work in the philanthropic world while serving on many boards, including the Amy Winehouse Foundation, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for Excellence Fund (established by HRH Prince Philip), the Lifeline Humanitarian Organization (founded by Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Yugoslavia), a U.S. member of HRH

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex’s Business Advisory Group, Marc Anthony’s Maestro Cares, Petra Nemcova’s Happy Hearts Fund (where he served as chairman for more than a decade), and Yue-Sai Kan’s China Beauty Charity Fund. Another impressive Hryck accomplishment: 2020 marked his

appointment as cochair—along with his close friend and fellow Hamptonite Chris Burch—of the prestigious Lang Lang International Music Foundation, founded by world-renowned concert pianist Lang Lang. “The Lang Lang International Music Foundation is incredibly unique,” says Hryck. “We believe all children should have access to a music education, regardless of their background. We offer a variety of programs that encourage music performances at all levels as a means of social and emotional development for them.” Hryck’s philanthropic endeavors will also be shining bright this summer. in celebration of the Mariano Rivera Foundation. “As a board member, I’m committed to raising money for this dedicated foundation that provides children from impoverished families with life skills that will set them on the path to a brighter future,” says Hryck. He was also recently selected to receive the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which recognizes those who have made it their mission to share with those less fortunate, their wealth of knowledge, indomitable courage, boundless compassion, unique talents, and selfless generosity. They do so while acknowledging their debt to their ethnic heritage as they uphold the ideals and spirit of America. Previous honorees include U.S. presidents, members of Congress, Nobel Prize winners, and leaders of industry and education, as well as significant figures in literature, news, sports, and entertainment, such as Muhammad Ali and Rosa Parks. “I’m from a family of immigrants who came to New York, so to receive this award was such an incredible honor, especially for a guy from Binghamton, New York,” Hryck adds. ¢

THE LYONS DEN Your breakdown of the top five movies you need to see this summer!
BY JEFFREY LYONS
COME PARTY WITH US!
I
always look forward to movie biographies of footnote characters in history, and Edge of the World is a case in point. It’s the story of Sir James Brooke, an officer in the British Army, who landed on a beautiful beach off the coast of Borneo with comrades in 1840. They soon befriended hostile natives and helped organize their defenses against rival tribes. He eventually became the leader of an enclave known as the Raj of Sarawak. Some of the battle scenes with nearby tribes and bandits are graphic, but this unusual tale takes on a life of its own. This could be the breakthrough role for actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who stars as Brooke. Watch for more! Long Story Short is a charming film with a humorous gimmick—time travel into the future. Actor Rafe Spall plays a young man in a boring job who accidentally meets his future wife. After encountering a mysterious older woman in a cemetery, he begins traveling a year into the future every time he awakens from either a natural sleep or a sudden snooze. His wife (played by Zahra Newman) is shocked at his bewildering amnesia and his amazement at how their child has suddenly grown. Ronnie Chieng, the talented comic and member of The Daily Show cast, makes the most of the familiar role of the best friend and sounding board. This is a fast-paced comedy carried superbly on the shoulders of Spall, who eventually learns how precious every second is and that time is never to be wasted. It’s suitable for older children. Growing up in the heyday of TV cowboy heroes, I loved the documentary The Westerns, a 1958 episode of the NBC anthology series Wide Wide World, which is streaming on YouTube. Dave Garroway, the original host of the Today show, takes us on a visit to the back lot at Warner Brothers, which produced most of the Westerns back in the day. We see three-time Oscar winner Walter Brennan lunching with George “Gabby” Hayes, the quintessential sidekick, and “Bronco Billy” Anderson. Jay Silverheels, Tonto to the Lone Ranger, explains his efforts to avoid stereotyped roles for Native Americans. Stay tuned! How to Deter a Robber is a crime comedy set in Northern Wisconsin. Vanessa Marano and her boyfriend (Benjamin Papac) are the victims of two amateurish home invaders. Marano’s uncle is played by Chris Mulkey—he gets tied up with hardly a fight—who is one of those actors whose face is more familiar than his name. At age 73, Mulkey, who has an incredible 258 acting credits and eight films coming soon, knows what he’s doing. The film, however, tries too hard to be cute without any edgy dialogue or sarcasm. It’s uninvolving and routine. The Long Way Back is a crime drama about how difficult it is to learn from your mistakes, and once your debt to society is paid, to live an honest life. Denny Dale Bass plays an ex-convict determined to rebuild his destiny. After his release, he returns to his old neighborhood and checks into a rooming house where he pulls out drug paraphernalia; it’s clear he has many challenges to overcome. Every film can’t be a blockbuster. This one, with a cast of unknown actors, has poignant moments and a stark style evoking hardscrabble lives and a protagonist who has taken wrong turns. ¢

SPOTLIGHT
SUMMER DISHING WITH KATIE LEE BIEGEL TV personality and author Katie Lee Biegel shows how easy things in the kitchen can be in her latest cookbook, It’s Not Complicated: Simple Recipes for Every Day. She fills us in on her latest projects, being a new mom, and more!
Photos: Lucy Schaeffer
BY SYDNEY SADICK Sydney Sadick: How have you managed to stay motivated and inspired in the past year? Katie Lee Biegel: My daughter is the greatest motivation of all. Staying at home made most of us take a different approach to the way we work. I was inspired by the challenges of learning to film my TV show [The Kitchen] from home and connecting more with people on social media. I feel fortunate to have had so much uninterrupted time with my daughter in these first months of her life. What have you learned about yourself since becoming a mom? I’ve learned that I’m much more capable than I thought! And that I can function on way less sleep than I ever imagined! The Hamptons is home for you. Do you ever flirt with the idea of being based in NYC? NYC was always where I went to work or to have some fun, and I have an apartment there, but I’m a country girl! I think New York City is the greatest city in the world, and it will be back better than ever. Once the world is safe, where would you like to go? My husband and I love to travel; we can’t wait to return to Italy. I love exploring new destinations,
but I could go to Italy on every trip for the rest of my life. I dream of going for a few months, renting a car, and not really having a plan. When we got engaged, we were in Paris and then took the Orient Express to Venice, which was like a movable museum; it felt like going back in time. How are you approaching cooking this summer? [Quarantine] was a lot of kitchen time, even for me! This summer, my cooking will be in line with the theme of my cookbook—uncomplicated—and I will hopefully be cooking more for friends and family again. I like to make simple yet delicious recipes, so that I can spend more time with them. Life is complicated enough—your food doesn’t need to be! Food for thought: Advice for those looking for love this summer? Be yourself and be true to what it is that you want! If you want a relationship, then don’t date someone who tells you that they aren’t looking for one. You won’t change anyone. Don’t accept crumbs. OK, back to food! How did the Nancy Meyers film It’s Complicated inspire your new book? I love the way I feel when I watch
HAMPTON SHEET
Nancy Meyers’ films. I wanted to write classic recipes that inspire the same feelings of comfort and warmth. There are great summer cocktails, like the Amalfi Spritz, perfect with lemon caper deviled eggs or crab toast; salads like the lobster Cobb; my husband’s recipe for ribs; skillet-broiled shrimp; and grilled red curry lamb chops. For sides, I can’t get enough of the kale slaw. And for dessert, the stone fruit crisp! How can a novice gain confidence in the kitchen? Take it easy on yourself! Start with basic recipes to gain confidence. Always read a recipe, start to finish, before you begin cooking, and prep all your ingredients. When you’re shopping for food Out East, what are your go-to spots? My faves are Peconic Prime Meats,
J U LY 2 0 2 1
Carissa’s Bread, Green Thumb, and Clamman. What does a typical summer day in the Hamptons look like for you? Coffee outside in the morning, a family walk, a trip to the farmstand, a day spent on the beach, sunset cocktails with my husband, and then grilling dinner outside. What insider tricks of the trade can you share about farmstand shopping? Get to know the people who work there. Ask their names and become friends. They’re your best resource for knowing what to buy. Your top grilling hacks, please! Start with a clean grill. Allow time for it to preheat. Resist the urge to move food around; let it get a good sear first. I usually set a timer on my phone. Favorite spots to dine? Pellegrino’s, Bostwick’s, K Pasa, East Hampton Grill, Nick & Toni’s, Dopo La Spiaggia, Argento, and The Beacon. Looking ahead, what are you working on now? I’m just beginning a children’s book, and I’m constantly writing new recipes for The Kitchen! ¢

Isaac Calpito (aka Isaac Boots) is the celeb fitness instructor we all can’t get enough of. And he’s making a big splash this summer with his Torch’d residency. See for yourself!
BY SYDNEY SADICK Sydney Sadick: Hamptons residents like Kelly Ripa, Naomi Watts, and Lizzie Tisch are major fans of your signature workout. How did Torch’d get started? Isaac Calpito: Torch’d was born on the Broadway stage. I created it for myself when I was a dancer in West Side Story [2009]. I needed something I could do in a small area in my dressing room that required little to no equipment—something that incorporated my training in dance conditioning and body resistance. I started doing it alone with my little boom box playing Madonna and slowly but surely the rest of the cast started joining in! I caught the bug for teaching it during those formative theater years. You raised more than $1 million for No Kid Hungry through your virtual pandemic workouts. What’s been the most rewarding part of this? My driving force has always been something beyond recognition or the conventional idea of success. I come from extremely humble beginnings; some may even say I had a Dickensian childhood. Achieving different milestones in my career only feels comfortable to me if I’m able to give back and make a positive difference. And now fans get to work out with you in real life in the Hamptons this summer! I’m so thrilled to be holding my Torch’d residency at the Children’s Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton! It’s 12 weeks, every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. Torch’d Village—a fabulous shopping experience with some of my favorite brands including Fred Segal, FP Movement, and more—will also be there! 50 Cent dropped by your class last summer! Do you expect other celebs to show up? Twice actually! Yes, my celebrity clients always know where I’ll be! Favorite post-workout activities? Hydrate, fuel, and rest! I have clients and friends spanning from Southampton to Montauk. I love everything from a cocktail at Surf Lodge to dinner at Moby’s to a Saturday afternoon boat ride to Sunset Beach to playing bocce ball at Ramona Singer’s house. Go-to summer pump-up song? “Electric Light,” by Steph Amoroso (on repeat). Your three must-have beach essentials, please! I’m from Hawaii, so the beach is home to me! Sunscreen, a good book (currently reading Sharon Stone’s The Beauty of Living Twice), and my poodle, Davis! Broadway is reopening this fall. What are you most excited to see? Anything with Bernadette Peters. Hint hint, Broadway producers! Experiencing NYC coming back to life is the best feeling. I’m excited to go back to the opera, tour museums, run in Central Park, lunch at Pastis, drink at the Carlyle. It’s all very special! ¢

LET'S FLY
THE 411 ON MONTAUK SKY
It’s no secret that BLADE is constantly making waves in air travel, and this summer, things are hotter than ever! Here’s everything you need to know about BLADE’s exclusive Montauk Sky service, your go-to solution for getting between NYC and Montauk all summer long.
T
ired of sitting in traffic as you make your way between New York City and Montauk? We feel you. Thanks to BLADE, millennials won’t have to rush out of Sundays at Surf Lodge anymore. Instead, fly the revival of the legendary aviation brand Montauk Sky with exclusive service between Teterboro and Montauk on an executive Cessna Grand Caravan. BLADE brought Montauk Sky back to the air three years ago after a 70-year hiatus, and the story behind the revitalization is simply fascinating. The best part? It’s affordable! At $395 a ticket each way, it’s less than an Uber. Seriously—have you seen the cost of surges these days?! The story behind Montauk Sky started here: It was originally founded in 1942 by two brothers—Raymond and Schuyler Tilney—in the U.S. Air Force to fly fresh lobster between Montauk and Manhattan. At the time, the U.S. Air Force established a base at the eastern tip of Long Island near the Montauk Lighthouse. To pass time, the brothers, who
38
were stationed at the base, started a secret cash-and-carry lobster business—no joke! They emptied their lobster traps each morning at 5 a.m. off the coast of Montauk, and then flew passengers to NYC on their rare Grumman G-65 Tadpole plane. The lobsters were off-loaded in disguise via boxes labeled “USAF Munitions” at a pier in the Meatpacking District, where top restaurant chefs lined up to snag them for the plates of the city’s rich and famous. To make extra cash, Raymond and Schuyler charged their Air Force buddies $5 per flight to fly them to NYC for a night out on the town, with many sitting strapped on top of lobster-filled ice boxes in the rear of the plane. It was truly like a scene out of a movie. Following the end of WWII, President Harry Truman largely decommissioned the Air Force base in Montauk—starting with Raymond, Schuyler, and the rest of the aircrew—causing an immediate end to Montauk Sky. While the Tilney brothers could never have imagined the modern

advancements in aviation that we’ve all come to appreciate today, BLADE has made sure that its legacy of dependable air travel continues with the relaunch of Montauk Sky now. Passengers can drive to the airport and park on-site or, after relaxing with a drink at the West 30th Street Lounge, they can book a seat in the Ground Connect SUV service to their Montauk Sky flight when

departing from Teterboro Airport. “It’s like BLADE for kids,” a company rep told us. “We took two planes and branded them with lobsters. We decided to be the anti-BLADE. No rosé, much younger target demo, no staff in fancy outfits. We wanted to make it like Montauk.” And that’s exactly what they did. Head over to blade.com to book your seat, and let’s all fly away! ¢

DREAM ON Three of our favorite East Enders share their most memorable dreams to find out what they really mean…
42
l CHRISTINE EVANGELISTA, Actress The Dream: “I had a dream where I was in my yard with a close friend. We walked back into the house, turned around and noticed that the foundation grass grew 20 times its size in seconds! My friend was shocked that it grew right behind our backs. Bizarrely, it wasn’t surprising to me how immediate it was. I explained that it’s because of the full moon— as if the moon was responsible. The moon in my dream was directly above the enormous foundation grass. I vividly remember seeing it. I then went on to try to find something in the grass, but to no avail.” The Interpretation: Ask yourself if something happened to you so quickly that you weren’t aware of or if someone turned on you. If it’s related to a work situation that got very big very quickly, perhaps it’s something you saw coming. Another possibility: It’s about a person who was talking behind your back. Because you have a good sense of the individual, what she did doesn’t surprise you. The moon comes full circle every month. This could be a case of the dream repeating a thought. The end of your dream shows you attempting to find a solution, but so far you haven’t.

l JEAN SHAFIROFF, Philanthropist The Dream: “I was flying in the air, five to six stories high, and then I came down to earth. It was exhilarating to fly!” The Interpretation: To find the waking life event, I’d ask: In what recent situation did I feel elated, but my elation was short-lived? Sometimes when we’ve been feeling down, it’s as if we forgot what it feels like to feel good. If you’ve been feeling down, this dream will bring you high! In this way, a balance is created while simultaneously reminding yourself of how it feels to feel good. If this resonates with you, my advice is to take that feeling and run with it! l SHARON HUROWITZ, Art Expert The Dream: “I’ve had reoccurring dreams about the Sesame Street characters. Why?! For my birthday, my dreams became a reality when my family surprised me with a Muppet in my likeness named STP, naturally wearing Chanel tweed! I spent the quarantine learning to puppeteer on Zoom with Daytime Emmy winner Ben Durocher. Miss Piggy, watch out!” The Interpretation: Every part of a dream represents a different aspect of your psyche. The less familiar parts take on roles as other people and places as symbols. Perhaps you transport yourself there as a reminder of how you used to feel when you watched Sesame Street, reminding yourself of a carefree time in your life. It could also link you to a difficult time and the show was your break. When the setting or characters bring something to mind, link the dream to your waking situation. Who in my life is behaving like Big Bird? Do I need to emulate what he would do in this situation? We often use a character as a solution to the personality type we need to lean into in a particular situation. ¢
