W PLAN
Programmable thermostat in heating zone to provide ‘Best Practice’ system ■
Radiator thermostats may be fitted to provide temperature control in selected areas ■
CM Zone can provide wireless boiler interlock for individual radiator control
APPLICATION The Sundial W Plan is designed to provide independent temperature control of both heating and domestic hot water circuits in fully pumped central heating installations. The W Plan uses a two position diverter valve which is normally installed to give priority to the domestic hot water circuit. Because the W Plan is a priority control system, it is recommended that it should not be used when there is likely to be a high hot water demand during the heating season which could lead to the space temperature dropping below comfort level. This situation is likely to occur, for example, in large family dwellings or in poorly insulated properties.

W PLAN
■ Installation
■ Specification
Valve - Water flow must be into port AB. Port A is the outlet connection to the radiator circuit and port B to the cylinder primary circuit. Note: This, together with the standard wiring will give domestic hot water priority.
Standard Sundial W Plan comprises: V4044C1288 : 22mm 3 port diverter valve L641A1039 : Strap-on cylinder thermostat T6360B1028 : Room thermostat ST9400C1000 : 7 day full programmer or ST9400A1002 : 1 day full programmer Option components Y6630D1007 : Wireless analogue room thermostat T6620B1008 : DT200 digital room thermostat Best Practice CMT901A1044 : 1 day programmable thermostat CMT907A1041 : 7 day programmable thermostat Automatic Bypass Valve DU144A1001 : 22mm straight auto bypass valve 3 DU145 – /4B : 22mm angled auto bypass valve Frost protection T4360A1009 : Frost Thermostat L641B1004 : Low limit Pipe Thermostat
Room Thermostat - The thermostat must be located where not subject to extraneous heat gains, direct sunlight or draughts. Cylinder Thermostat - For optimum performance the thermostat should be located between 1/4 and 1/3 up the cylinder from the floor.
■ Time Control Should be one which does not allow ‘Heating’ to be selected without ‘Hot Water’. Bypass Valve - An automatic bypass valve should be fitted to the system to stop wastage of energy and prevent increased pressure within the circuit. Even though there is always one valve outlet open, the bypass will guard against the possibility of the heating circuit being isolated by radiator thermostats or operation of manual radiator valves.
■ Typical Wiring
■ Operation Hot Water Only Requirement - On a demand for heat from the cylinder thermostat, the pump and boiler are switched on. Heating Only Requirement - On a demand for heat from the room thermostat, the valve is energised, so that the hot water port is closed and the heating port is open, and the pump and boiler switched on. HTG and HW Requirement - When wired and installed to give HOT WATER priority the heating will remain off until the hot water is up to the required temperature.
Note: It is recommended that the 10 way Junction Box should be used to ensure first time, fault free wiring.

Room Thermostat - The thermostat must be located where not subject to extraneous heat gains, direct sunlight or draughts. Cylinder Thermostat - For optimum performance the thermostat should be located between 1/4 and 1/3 up the cylinder from the floor.
■ Time Control Standard Practice A 2 channel programmer to control the HW and heating zones. Best Practice A time switch to control HW and a programmable thermostat for the heating zone. Bypass Valve - An automatic bypass valve should be fitted to the system to stop wastage of energy and prevent increased pressure within the circuit. Even though there is always one valve outlet open: the bypass will guard against the possibility of the heating circuit being isolated by radiator thermostats or operation of manual radiator valves.
■ Typical Wiring
■ Operation Hot Water Only Requirement - On a demand for heat from the cylinder thermostat, the valve remains open to DHW only and the pump and boiler are switched on. Heating Only Requirement - On a demand for heat from the room thermostat, the valve motor is energised so that the CH port only is opened and the pump and boiler are switched on. HTG and HW Requirement - When both thermostats demand heat, the valve ball is positioned to allow both ports to be open and the pump and boiler switched on. When neither thermostat is demanding heat, the pump and boiler are off. The valve remains in the last position of operation whilst the mains is switched on.
Note: It is recommended that the 10 way Junction Box or Sundial Wiring Centre should be used to ensure first time, fault free wiring.

APPLICATION ST9500 is a 2 channel 7 day full programmer designed to control 2 heating zones. Zoning a house not only helps make the heating system more energy efficient, but can also improve comfort conditions, as each zone will only be heated when required. The ST9500 gives great flexibility offering up to three on/off switchings per day, additionally each day could be programmed differently. Ideal for when the user has different heating needs from day to day. ST9500 can be set to 5/2 day or 1 day programme during installation. ST9500 incorporates the Lint of Text (LoT™) display that gives clear plain English instructions whenever any button or slider is used. This means that installers, customers and users can operate all of the controls reliably, without needing to find an instruction manual. ST9500 also features a ‘Holiday’ button allowing the user to switch off their heating for a specified number of days (1 to 99) while they are away from home.
HEATING CONTROLS
■
Building Regulations strongly recommend zoning for most houses, and mandate it for certain larger properties, so the Honeywell ST9500 can be used as an aid to compliance.

■ Operation Spring loaded pressure reducing valves operate by means of a force equalising system. The force of a diaphragm operates against the force of an adjustment spring. If the outlet pressure and therefore the diaphragm force fall because water is drawn, the greater force of the spring causes the valve to open.
The outlet pressure then increases until the forces between the diaphragm and the spring are equal again. The inlet pressure has no influence in either Note: No replacement parts are available the opening or closing of the valve; pressure equalising occurs on the outlet side. for D04.

APPLICATION The Automatic Air Vent EA122 is suitable for heating systems and other closed circuit hot water systems (not potable water) which require the efficient, automatic removal of air when a system is filling with water. The vacuum break on the bottom of the valve prevents an air lock forming and encourages air to be released from water. The air vent can be fitted anywhere in the positive pressure side of the system where air is likely to be trapped. Air vents should always be fitted in an accessible area, which can be seen and serviced easily.

APPLICATION The Kombi 3 Plus system is suitable for large two-pipe systems or district heating schemes that require precise regulation of flow through systems or individual heating circuits. The valves have female BSP connections and are available in 3/8"- 3" sizes (DN10 - DN80). Systems with oversized pumps, or undersized pipework and valves, generate high differential pressures causing noise and inefficiency. By presetting the Kombi 3 plus, differential pressure across a system can be controlled, thereby reducing noise and energy consumption. If flow rates or resistance across a system have not been calculated, fitting the V5012 diaphragm unit will set the differential regulation automatically, regardless of changes in system flow rates. This would be ideal for existing systems with thermostatic radiator valves (maximum valve size = DN40 with maximum flow rate 2500kg/hr).

■ Accessories V5000 (flow) and V5010 (return) fitted with V5012 diaphragm Pressure ‘impulse’ pipe is standard 6mm copper tube. Installer supplied.
■ Function When the resistance in a heating circuit increases i.e. radiator thermostats shut down, the pressure on the flow side of the diaphragm (via the impulse pipe) will increase. This will cause the diaphragm piston to shut down the return valve proportionately, reducing the overall water flow through the system. This will reduce the differential pressure across the system until it has balanced to the preset level (typically 0.2 bar).

APPLICATION The VF06 is a combination filling valve for sealed heating systems, incorporating a pressure reducing valve, stop valve, a non return valve and hose connections. Factory set to 1.5 bar, the VF06 can be adjusted on site to between 0.5 and 3 bar. The VF06 ensures that the system is not inadvertently over pressurised while filling, which can cause damage to heat exchangers, expansion vessels and joints. It also enables quick and trouble free refilling of the system should pressure loss occur.

VT112R Three port bypass valve
APPLICATION These two valves provide non-electric thermal control of primary hot water circuits or thermal bypass circuits in fully pumped systems. Possible applications are underfloor heating manifolds, solar and solid fuel heating systems, and replacement temperature control for DHW cylinder, when unable to upgrade complete control system. With fast acting, remote sensors, they ensure safe temperature levels and reduced running costs. Both valves close off the primary flow as the temperature of the sensor reaches set point. The VT100R is a simple two port direct acting valve. The VT112, however, has three ports providing automatic bypass back to the boiler when the primary flow is shut. Under Building Regulations, these controls may only be fitted to existing gravity hot water systems, in exceptional circumstances.

■ Flow Characteristics
Spring loaded pressure reducing valves operate by means of a force equalising system. The force of a diaphragm operates against the force of an adjustment spring. if the outlet pressure and therefore the diaphragm force fall because water is drawn, the then greater force of the spring causes the valve to open. The outlet pressure then increases until the forces between the diaphragm and the spring are equal again. The inlet pressure has no influence in either opening or closing of the valve; pressure equalising occurs on the outlet side. © Honeywell Control Products and Systems, Issue 10, 5.23

■ Operation Class 4 Backflow Preventers function with three pressure zones. The pressure in zone 1 (inlet) is higher than in zone 2, which in turn is higher than in zone 3 (outlet). A discharge valve is connected to zone 2 which will open if the pressure in zone 2 rises to within 0.14 bar of the inlet pressure (a backflow situation). The water from zone 2 discharges to atmosphere, creating an air gap in the line. In this way the danger of back pressure or back siphonage into the supply network is prevented and the drinking water network is protected.

■ Operation
F76S-….AD Reverse rinsing filter with 200µm mesh
The filter insert is divided into two parts. In the normal position only the lower, larger section is in contact with the water flowing outside to in. When in reverse rinsing mode, water passes through an upper filter section, simultaneously passing inside the filter bowl making water flow inside to out (in both upper and lower filters). A rotating impeller inside the filter bowl facilitates the cleaning process. Waste from the filter is flushed out to a drain through a ball valve. The filter automatically switches back to normal operating position when the ball valve is closed.

SECTION SIX Honeywell is a major supplier of gas valves for use on domestic boiler and warm air appliances, a position we have maintained for over 40 years. Honeywell have continually set new standards in the gas valve field. Products such as ICGC, Compact & MN have been used in the past to meet the demands of the manufacturers. Changes in legislation have demanded new approaches to gas valve design such as Combined Valve & Ignition (CVI). This is a valve that combines the ignition electronics and provides a platform for all of today’s and tomorrow’s boiler applications. Due to the differing requirements for some recent applications, replacement components will only be available from the original appliance manufacturer. Always check the appliance instructions before carrying out service work.
Pilot burners have the type number (e.g. Q314, Q359, etc) together with the bracket type and target tip style stamped on them. Replacements must always be the same as those fitted as original equipment, unless the appliance manufacturer states otherwise. When ordering replacement injectors it is important to identify the pilot burner and the type of gas (i.e. Natural or LPG). For the majority of applications where a Honeywell thermocouple was fitted as original equipment, the replacement will be the Q309A Tradeline unit.
