The architecture is positioned above the ground to interact with human, nature and other objects. It exists in both scale of spatial and tempory zone. The form of the architecture should not be isloated or degraded within the urban context but merging with surrouding environments and tracing the affluent spatial experience for the audience. In Macro level, my notion of architecture is suggesting such would be realized and be utilized by anyone who is using it or passing through it, and to provide a continuous journey interweaving within the city. On the other hand, in Micro level, I suggest any spatial experience would influence the people’s sensory and emotion in terms of circulation, interior spaces and material in order to be valued in moral aspect. I believe that if the building development only possess aesthetic appeal but without spatial sensory experience, it is only can be seen as a functional building instead of a valuable architecture. This portfolio records the process of my study and challenge that I kept exploring the potential of architecture based on my experience and interest.

Invisible Stream Design Studio- Earthtemura? Nihil hos cordi, nos, inaris hilicta duc rem tabuspecrit.

Location: Herring Island I Building type: Recreation Center Period: March 2015 - June 2015

The Herring Island is a natural space hidden in the urban city. However, refer to the hisitory, the island was only artificial bluestone quarry supprisingly hidden just 3km from the city. It wasn’t either shaped by nature, but a secret and a home to series of environmental sculptures hiding in the industrial landscape. My design project-Invisible Stream started with the observation of the site and the form of the flood regarding its local history. Due to its social value and the physical elements of its location. Thus, I utilized the social elements such as the accessible entrance and the human movement around the site to create a Recreation space that explore the secret of the Herring Island. By integrating with the flexible space, and orgnaic movement, the connection of the public, private and semi-public space is held in dynamic way which approach to my original ideas of invisible stream. As the level goes up, different view varies from close to half opened and eventually wildly opened. The architecture itself is a media which create human movement and influence their oppotunities of seeing and seeking. Thus, the audience could be able to seek the secret through their journey.

3.1 SITE ANALYSIS AND CONCEPTACLE

1.1 POINT / LINE / PLANE The point/ line/ plane in my design are not in literal meaning but integrated with the function of space ->meeting point. As shown in the grid map on the left hand side, the straight line-paths became dynamic as they followed the track around the intersection of the meeting points which are in differnt scale. Once shifting the view to the side, the basement touched the ground in order to pointed at a smaller scale. Each geometric component of the dynamic pavilion like design could be read as either line or plane.

The site analysis indicates the Herring Island as a natural space within the urban city. However, refer to the History, the island was man-made bluestone quarry. The island wasn’t either shaped by nature but man-made. The Herring Island itself is a secret hiding in the industrial landscape. My design started with the observation of the site. Due to its social value and the physical elements of its location, I decided to use the social elements such as the accessible entrance and the human movement around the site to create a sturcture that explore the secret of the Herring Island. By integrating with the flexible space, the audience could be able to seek the secret through their journey.

On the other hand, the material texture also can be read as lines. Such as the grains on the wood plank, they naturally formed lines in different density.

Fear Body Architecture-Digital Design and Fabrication Suggesting transformation of human emotion through architecural space

e a r Team Project With: Hoi Yin Ho Model: Emma I Project type: Body Defending Structure Period: March 2015 - June 2015 A protection Gear that can be designed to wrap around certain sensitive areas of body. It is to give the person a sense of protection that actually interacting with the outside. People are aware of their personal space as when the space is intruded by others, it would trigger their emotion such as fear. The black appearance and Queen dress like appearance well captured the attraction. And at the same time lured the other people to have the sense of fear to the person inside the volume. The exterior volume on the raised shoulder is to show the scared/shocked emotional effect of a person when croching down. The interior volume allowed the person to kneel down and totally cover the body to provide an embracing and hiding effect in order to keep a person’s personal space fully to himself/herself. As sequence, the whole structure is able to provide not only an embracing but also defensive personal space.

FROM THE READING, WE ARE INSPIRED THAT THE FREQUENCY OF THE SECTION WE MADE IN OUR ‘WAFFLE-GRID’ STRUCTURE WILL GIVE DIFFERENT VISUAL INTENSIFICATION. BY THAT, WE CAN MAKE OUR TWO LAYERS OF GRID WITH DIFFERENT DENSITY OF GRID. FOR EXAMPLE, THE EXTERIOR GRID CAN BE LESS DENSE TO SHOW THE FADING OF EMOTION AND COOLER TEMPERATURE AS IT GETS FURTHER FROM THE HUMAN BODY; THE INTERIOR GRID CAN BE DENSER TO SHOW STRONGER EMOTION AND HIGHER TEMPERATURE. ALSO, WE UNDERSTOOD THE DIVERSITY OF SECTIONING AND PROFILING AS A CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE, LARGE AMOUNT OF TECHNICS SUCH AS STACKED, GRIDDED, ALSO MAY INTERCROSS WITH FRAME AND INFILL/ SKIN AND BONES.

WITH THE SPIRAL NOTCHING AND THE MATT BLACK SPRAY PAINT CREATE THE ATMOSPHERE OF FEAR AND MYSTERY. ALSO, WITH THE DOUBLED GRID ALSO CREATES A VISUAL ILLUTION LIKE MOIRE EFFECT TO HIDE THE UPPER BODY. THE SHIFT OF VISIBILITY IS DISTINCTIVE.

Lacemorphology Design Studio- Air Suggesting imitation of bilogical behaviour in architecural space

Team Project With: Antigone Gougoussis, Luke Latham, Mike Oh, Rebecca Yang, Lauren Boucher, Taylah Parker Location: GENarcist, 362 Victoria St, North Melbourne VIC 3051 I Architecture type: Light Installation Period: March 2016 - June 2016

Biomimetics

Swarm Logic Form The light installation attempted to locate in GENarcist hair salon is deigned in purpose of accentuating the beautiful and complex curve qualities of the minial surface in order to create an emotive and organic form inpired by nature. The organic trimming at yarying angles exhibits the qualities associated with butterfly swarm intelligence and create more natural and transitional effect throughout our design. It is also our purpose to experiment the imitation of biological behaviour in terms of architectural form and spaces. In terms of spacial experience, we were also trying to retain the interweaving spatial qualities associated with our gyroid minimal surface and highlight this complexity through our final outcome.

The site is a hair salon called GENarcist located at 362 Victoria St. The design proposal is to apply a light installation in the salon in order to become an element in the space to cultivate creativity, and to demand a response from the client and his customers that is one of curiosity, excitement and intrigue. According to the client’s brief, the light installation would be applied to the space between the two mirrors on the wall. It is required to be minimal and clean in black and white colour to fit in the white wall and surrounding environmets.

tasting space[...] adj. + noun Like Wine, architecture is an experience-crafted by the maker to share imagination that provokes the senses of its audience. The project aims to translate the architecture to a spatial organic manifestation, exploring and wine tasting elevating the experience through white and transparent architectural mediums. The light body of the manifestation captures and frames significant views allowing guests to relate to the origin of the wine as they partake of it. Tinted roofs mimic the action of looking through a glass when tasting a wine capturing the hues and sedimentation. As the day comes through the ceiling and its texture renders the pure white floors. It shelters with a play of light and shadow. A ramp in the middle of the manifestation breaks up the space filling the interiors with the aromas as bottles of wine are being tasted while pouring down the surface. In a unique exchange of circulation between wine and the user.

On one hand, based on people’s’ Daily behaviour, the landscape includes composite outdoor function for both students and school staffs; On the other hand, based on history and the excavations of the local culture background, the design outcome reflects the school cultural characteristics of landscape space. In moral perspective, the dominant landscape space regarding the corresponding culture contains memorial site, recrreation space, and sculptures. In Skill perspect, the dominant landscape space regarding corresponding function includes outdoor teaching areas, outdoor report hall, the rain garden and sports venues. Both two perspects of skill and moral are expressed by landscape spaces dominated by the cultural space and function in order to achieve the implementation into the landscape with the concept of skill & moral.
