Exploring Kansas City with Laina, Julia, and Abby for our December centerspread has been my favorite memory on staff, especially singing Christmas carrols from the top of a Plaza parking garage to appreciative passersby below.

My favorite memory on staff was taking sanity breaks during layout nights, which consisted of opening up photobooth and running into Mrs. Thompson’s room to see if we could beat the camera’s timer. Also last Spring, having to drive with Max and Michael to the only paper company that had our paper in stock. In Kansas City. On an issue day.

Two of my most memorable moments involve Max. A photo had not been taken (shocker), so Max and I went out to get a picture of a deer sign. We looked for over an hour until finally we found one at longview. It was raining by then, so Max had to cover me with his jacket while I took the picture. My other one was when Max and I were at the school until six working on the issue. We took a break to record ourselves lip syncing to a song on photobooth. The janitor walked in and was totally creeped out. Quote to Live By: “Everything happens for a reason.” -Unknown

KINZIE HUNN My favorite memory is my first day here junior year. I was new and everyone made me feel welcome and comfortable. I’ll never forget the people and the friends that came and went, they’ve all changed my life completely and I will never forget that.

SARA O’CONNELL My favorite memory was when my german 4/5 class threw Frau Mellem a surprise retirement party. We were sad to see her go after so many years. So we talked on Facebook and planned a day. We all came in late one day with food and shouted “SURPRISE!” She was shocked and it was a fun way to say goodbye to a teacher that we have had for so many years.

SHELBY SPIWAK

My favorite memory was doing Mr.Tiger. The practices were a lot of fun and the show went really well. It was fun to do one last fun thing to end my senior year.

10

My sophomore year I was walking to Mrs. Metzler’s class by the attendance office and I slipped and fell in the hallway during a passing period..on a pickle. Im still pretty confused about why there was a pickle on the ground by attendance.

<

It would probably be the countless times I have spent with my band family.. All the band kids at LSHS are so different but when we all come together we have so much fun and make beautiful music. All the competitions, camp and week night rehearsals brought us all closer and intertwined my life with the lives of the greatest students at LSHS, “the music kids.” We will forever be a family and I will always remember the times I have had with these people, face pets, and all.

CLINT OTT My favorite memory is all of the football games this year. I was at every minute of every game and I was really proud of the players and the coaching staff. I had a great time throughout the whole season.

Memories

KATELYN ROBERSON

The class of 2011 takes a look back at their most memorable moments during their four years at Lee’s Summit High School.

Scoring the winning goal and assist in the 2009 District Championship game.

CHARISSA BUCKNER Freshman year, I hid in the band locker of a senior, Josh Coop. I hid there for twenty minutes and when he came and opened the door, I jumped out and scared him, We got it on video and he told me he almost peed his pants. Oh, and Cody owes me three dinners.

#

GAVIN MOORE When my car died on Blue Parkway on my way to school the day I got my license.

%

VANESSA SPECHT-KAREL My favorite memory is when I performed as the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland my junior year. I broke out of my shell so much that night (the first night.) It made me know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

MICHELLE LACKAMP My favorite memory from high school was when girls track won conference in Freshman, JV and Varsity. We got to run a lap after the meet was over and it was so fun. I was totally exhausted but in that moment I forgot all about it.

#

DYLAN GEORGE Going 20-0-0 my junior year on the JV soccer team. Even though it wasn’t varsity, I was proud of a season shutout. Then next year, going to district finals and taking second.

SENIORS

Farewell

We don’t quite know what to say. Or rather, how to say it. Excuse us if we sound corny or cheesy (sounds delicious!), but it has to be said.   People have many different feelings about graduation. Some are excited and don’t want to look back, others may be worried about the future. But no matter what you are feeling, we should all be proud of our accomplishments. We’ve finally finished high school. But before most of us go our separate ways, we should first acknowledge who got us here in the first place: our teachers, our families, and each other.   Our teachers were the ones who got us ready, in more ways than one, for what college has in store for us. They taught us the value of a good education, what it means to be an intellectual, and how to develop our own ideas and beliefs based on the world around us. For the Hi.Life staff in particular, one teacher has really made an impact. Mr. Russell, who helped gather story ideas at the beginning of each month with some interesting discussions, who helped find design inspiration for our spreads, and who stayed school after until late at night with us as we finished each issue. We thank you, Mr. Russell and our teachers in general, for everything you have done for us. A+ for you.   We also owe some gratitude to our families. They were there for us when we were stressed out over our first high school final, and they are still here with us today as we prepare to walk at graduation. They’ve provided the stability, love, and support that young, naive teenagers need to flourish (and Blotts). They’re awesome, the bomb, the bomb diggity, the best.   And finally each other. We’ve developed friendships that have provided some great memories over the years. And even though we’ll all be going on our own paths starting May 18, we’ll always have these moments to look back on. Tank you, tank you, tank you Lee’s Summit High School Class of 2011.   So we’re done. It’s time for the goodbyes. Well, not yet, we still have the summer, which will be awesome. But saying goodbye can be hard for anybody, especially when so many of our favorite people like Michael Scott, Oprah, and Andy (from Toy Story) are moving on as well. At least we have until July 15 to hold on to our dear friend Harry Potter. But in the end, saying goodbye is inevitable. Michael will live a gloriously funny life with Holly, Oprah will be just as prominent on OWN, and Andy... well, Andy will hopefully graduate college. And in the end, we will be fine too.   We leave you now with some famous goodbyes that we all know and love: -Give her hell for us, Peeves. -Hasta la vista, baby. -TTFN. -Goodbye, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu. -Bella, I don’t want you to come with me. -Goodbye, Buddy, hope you find your dad. -Life’s a garden. Dig it. Farewell, Seniors, and good luck on your journey into adulthood. -the Hi.Life Editorial Staff
