This project was successful in the personal chosen theme of sense of touch. The end result of my model is an expressive manipulation of the book. It includes tactile elements such as the additives of fabric, the specifically chosen blue hue of the fabric, the different sized gauges of wire, and the separate ways in which the wires served as functions. This model as a whole conveys emotion and deals more with art. The spine of the book, having the pages flipped outward through cutting through the extent of the binding, is a strong alteration during the subtraction phase of this project. The additives and grip holds the book and wires in a good manner. The interior, however, should have been developed more thoroughly by way of excavation. The focus in which how to attach the wires together as well as to the table should also have been emphasized and notably incorporated. The structure as a whole needs improvement, due to this model falling easily when leaning towards a particular edge. The main concentration of need for improvement centers around how to deal with certain elements and attachments and how to make these attachments structurally.

Upon finding this site, my focus was to accentuate the stairs in terms of light and space. I pushed these concepts rigorously and did not take into account the actual strength of natural light to create sun stripes due to its location and the site’s surroundings with my first tunnel-like parascopes. I realized these preliminary concepts were not appropriate unless I were to provide false information. With critiqe and feedback from the class, the ideas of strengthening my silhouette as well as stressing the angle of the stairs - a means of using the interior and exterior - were produced. The new material of gesso was also an interesting experimental finish in terms of the amount of pressure used to apply and the amount of gesso itself applied over an area. Over this project, even though I had constructed different final scopes, I comprehend in what ways previous ideas may create other developments therefore strengthening progress instead of hindering it.

“This project is critical to our development, this project is critical to our development, this project is critical to our development.” These five weeks were nothing short of the most pressure I have felt since the start of this school year. The weight to prove myself to this program, to determine if I could be of any use in this career was established over this project. Ultimately, from the congratulations and multiple uplifting comments from upperclassmen, as well as the studio professors’ decision to have our parasite up during open house as one of the 12 our of a total of 71 is an honor. I am grateful for a team that keeps it friendly, functional, and professional. To improve our design, and things to notice, we did not need to abandon the concept of literal musicality. Spatial performance with having to do with the body pulling the cable - comfortable when nearer to the corner with shorter cable lengths, versus having to walk further back when further from the corner - also acts as this quarter’s major theme of anthropometrics and anthropometry.

Development, using prior attempts to progress rather than abandoning concepts altogether, and the requirement of recording for progress have been essential to my growth. The organizational method of this quarter aided me in efficiency as well as taking a peak into the professional world of what specific tasks may be requested. In terms of improvement, the greatest fault I must work on now is how in which to communicate my ideas in a more comprehensible manner.

Winter quarter under the guidance of Humberto Norman has mentally rejuvenated me in preparation for the rigor of spring. More importantly, this quarter I have gained self-confidence in my drive and work.
