A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT In reflecting on the 2022-2023 school year, I cannot help but feel gratitude and celebration. I am grateful to our committed and engaged Board of Trustees and all who volunteer their time, talent, and treasure to make Sacred Heart Schools the very best it can be. I celebrate our students who excelled, persevered, served others, grew in faith, and left their mark on our school community. I am grateful to our faculty and staff for their dedication, commitment, and care for our students. We are blessed with four dedicated school leaders, Dr. Adams, Ms. Mullen, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Nikolich, whose leadership made the 2022-23 school year a huge success. I am continuously amazed by our dedicated and empowering campus leadership team, including Mia Cooper, Vice President of Mission and Community, Lauren Hitron, Director of the Jean Frazier Leadership Institute, Tina Kauffmann, Vice President for Advancement, and Paul Kichler, Vice President of Operations.

Together, as the community of Sacred Heart Schools, we are continuing to provide our current students – the next generation of compassionate, global leaders – the excellence that is synonymous with a holistic Ursuline education and honoring the mission and vision of St. Angela and the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville.

We do all of this by leaning on our Catholic faith and our Ursuline Core Values of reverence, service, leadership, and community.

On behalf of our school community, thank you for your generosity this year. Your dedication and support sustain our mission and make all the difference.

FUNDRAISING PRIORITIES Annual Fund The Annual Fund is the most important fundraising priority and is necessary to maintain Sacred Heart Schools’ tradition of excellence and to keep tuition increases at a minimum. Your Annual Fund gift made to a specific school remains at that school and is not distributed to other schools on the Ursuline Campus. The Annual Fund provides critical operating budget support and is used immediately by the school principal or administrator. It provides flexibility to respond to essential needs and new opportunities, including tuition assistance, technology and facility upgrades, and faculty recruitment and professional development.

Interlude Interlude is held annually and is Sacred Heart Schools’ only campus-wide dinner-auction. Proceeds from the fundraising event directly benefit the current year’s operating budgets for Sacred Heart Academy, Sacred Heart Model School, Sacred Heart Preschool, and Sacred Heart School for the Arts.

Endowment The long-term stability and mission-driven values are assured from generation to generation through endowment. Although Sacred Heart Schools has distinguished itself as a premier Catholic school district, its endowment is significantly underfunded in comparison to the national benchmarks. This means fewer resources to devote to student financial aid, faculty recruitment and retention, and faculty professional development. Sacred Heart Schools recognizes the need to increase the size of our endowment considerably to reach our long-term goal of $25 million.

Student Scholarship/Tuition Assistance Opportunities: Endowed student tuition assistance makes Sacred Heart Schools education possible for prospective families who would otherwise not be able to afford the tuition and benefit current families who find their ability to afford an Ursuline education has changed.

Estate and Planned Gifts: A gift made through a bequest or estate is referred to as a planned gift. Any person who makes an estate plan that includes a Sacred Heart school is a member of the St. Angela Merici Circle. The Office of Institutional Advancement can provide estate and planned giving guidance upon request.

Capital Project: An intensive fundraising effort designed to raise a specified sum of money within a defined time period to meet the varied asset-building needs of an organization. SHS will embark on capital projects from time to time as the needs are identified and approved by the Board of Trustees.

We deeply appreciate the tremendous impact of our Ursuline Sisters, Trustees, generous donors, and parent and alumni/nae volunteers. Your unwavering support and contributions have made a world of difference in the educational lives of our students and are the heart, soul and lifeblood of Sacred Heart. Thanks to each of you, we have experienced record success and look forward to furthering enhancing the education our students receive in the 2023-24 year.

The generous contributions have allowed us to expand our programs across all four schools, increase financial assistance to students, and make a lasting difference in the lives of the students we serve.

Together, as a compassionate community, we have achieved so much during the 2022-23 year.

She replied that women don’t give to their schools. She said many get married, and they give to the man’s school, but not their own. Of course, I thought that was terrible and vowed to give to Sacred Heart when I finished school and got a good job.

It took me a while, but eventually, I became a regular donor to the Annual Fund. I decided to include Sacred Heart in my estate planning as I don’t have any children, and this seemed like a good way to give to the next generation. I am so impressed with how the school has grown in the years since I graduated! There are classes and programs in place now that I never even dreamed of when I was a student there! I value education for women and hope that my contribution will make Sacred Heart Academy accessible to more young women who want an excellent academic experience.”

Sacred Heart Model School continues to grow as a community of families and students committed to being their best. Our IB program helps us guide students to be thoughtful and curious and our commitment to Catholic education grounds our students in God’s love and guidance. Our incredible faculty and staff are a family to your children, and we pride ourselves in the many successes we share as a community.

Sacred Heart Schools have a unique edge in our mandate to educate the whole child. Having an arts school firmly rooted on campus with a longevity of close to 50 years creates a niche for us in the community. A steady growth in revenue and registrations of almost 40% over the past two years speaks to the value that families are recognizing in having art programming available for both our daytime integration students and the community at large. We have a big vision for SHSA for the future.
