Tips FOR HIGH SCHOOL SELECTION AND ENROLLMENT

Be a part of your daughter’s high school decision. Talk to your daughter about her different school choices to find the one that fits her needs the best. Keeping an open dialogue will cut down on the stress she may feel. Schedule a shadow visit for your daughter in the spring of her seventh grade year, and encourage her to visit multiple schools. During her 8th grade year, she may wish to shadow her top two choices again as she narrows down her options. Following each shadow visit, sit down with your daughter and talk about her experience. What was her favorite part of the day? Could she see herself as a student there? Attend enrollment events throughout the year. Read the next page for a schedule of prospective family events SHA hosts throughout the school year. Take these opportunities to see the campus, talk to teachers and parents and to learn about what makes SHA unique. Choose the school that best fits the needs of your daughter academically, socially and spiritually. A student should attend a school that provides her with opportunities to grow in her talents and interests while challenging her academically. Encourage her to choose a high school independently of her friends’ influences. Use the High School Placement Test as a target date for making a high school decision (December of her 8th grade year). Prospective students are encouraged to test at the school they will likely attend.
