“Go to college and get your degree so you can get a good job, the line everyone hears after high school. This is advice I followed which lead me to South Dakota State University. I started school here as an Animal Science major with a pre-Vet emphasis. My first semester into school I changed my choice of study to Agricultre Journalism. This field of study really matched up well with my National Guard position as well as my passion. I have military training for videography; every aspect from shooting, editing, writing as well as voiceovers. But my time in the Guard has given me the chance to also get hands-on experience as a print journalist, photographer and in some cases a public affairs individual. This background paired with my education at state gives me a wide range of tools in the communication field. I feel comfortable with many different aspects of the industry and have many examples to share. This publication is a sample of some of the work I have accomplished. Many projects were based on required details from coursework, so no copyright infringement was intended. This is an academic collection and its purpose is to highlight my capabilities nothing more. Feel free to flip though this short portfolio. If you like what you see or would like to see more of my work check out my professional website www.jackiefitzpro.webnode.com There you can find my resume as well as other examples of work I have done and a list of skill sets I can bring to the table. The same innovative thinking and persistent hard work that distinguished the earliest eras of King Ranch’s development continue to inspire the businesses of modern-day King Ranch. In addition to our well-known innovations in cattle and horse breeding and large-scale range management techniques, King Ranch continues to be on the forefront of innovation in farming – both in Texas and Florida, where King Ranch has a significant presence. In the spirit of the resilient and hardworking steamboat pilot turned rancher Captain Richard King, the people of modern-day King Ranch continue to innovate and pursue excellence in many diverse fields of endeavor.
aptain King, ever the innovator, did a new thing on the land he was taming. He borrowed from two time-honored models – both the southern plantation and the Mexican hacienda systems to synthesize a hybrid approach to ranching on his burgeoning holdings.

History
n the middle of the 19th century, Captain King traveled north from the Rio Grande to Corpus Christi. He traversed a region then known as the Wild Horse Desert and was captivated by it. His eye for an opportunity was at its sharpest when, after well over a hundred miles of riding over the wild lands, he and his party came to the cool, refreshing waters of Santa Gertrudis Creek. King saw that this place that nourished so much wildlife could also sustain domestic stock, and King’s vision for a great cattle ranch began to take shape.
Tradition
t was during these transitional years that King Ranch made its name in animal husbandry. By crossbreeding Brahman bulls, native to India, with British Shorthorn stock, the ranch produced the Santa Gertrudis, recognized as the first American breed of beef cattle and the first cattle breed to be recognized in the world in more than a century. This breed of cattle continues to be recognized throughout the world for its fine beef quality and ability to withstand arid climates. Today, the Santa Gertrudis is the most prevalent cattle breed in Australia.

Operations
rom the first time he laid eyes on the Wild Horse Desert country, Richard King was taken with the variety of vibrant wildlife and flora that the land supported. Doubtless, Captain King marveled as wildlife from the surrounding brushlands converged in the evening to drink the life-giving waters of Santa Gertrudis Creek – the same that would give life to the first efforts at establishing a ranching operation. That sense of reverence for nature would not end with Captain King. Successive generations have taken the love of land and its wildlife to heart, and they have intensified this commitment to preserving the vast variety of plant and animal life that populates the rugged South Texas rangelands.

Dental care mission success in Suriname By Sgt. Theanne Tangen and Pfc. Jacqueline Fitzgerald 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment South Dakota Army National Guard
BROKOPONDO, Suriname – After treating over 1,000 patients, the Dental Readiness Training Exercise held its official closing ceremony on Thursday, July 10, at Brokopondo. Soldiers from the Army Reserve’s 858th Medical Company (Dental Services) from Pennsylvania spent long days performing dental care at two locations, first at Zanderij and then in Brokopondo. They performed dental cleaning, shot x-rays, filled cavities, and pulled more than 1,200 teeth. An average of 130 children and adults were treated each day during the week-long exercise. “Beyond the Horizon has a two-fold result. It gives an opportunity for U.S. and Suriname people to work together to build stronger relationships between the two countries and it allows our unit members a chance to refine and improve their dental skills,” said Col. Fred Place, 858th commander. This was the first of three medical exercises included in the Beyond the Horizon 2008 exercise. It will be followed by a medical and veterinarian exercise in late July. Beyond the Horizon 2008 encompasses construction projects, medical, dental, and veterinary services in Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname. The comprehensive humanitarian assistance exercises in Suriname will take place between June and September 2008. Beyond the Horizon missions are designed to foster goodwill and improve relations between the U.S. and the governments of the region. Better government-to-government and people-to-people relations mean better responses to the challenges that face U.S. partnerships in the Caribbean and the Americas.

“During this training, we’ve found that people rise to the occasion and challenge of difficult dental procedures and they do outstanding work,” said Place. “I feel very confident that I could take this unit anywhere and they would do a great job.” ...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Opening ceremony conducted for Beyond the Horizon 2008 By Sgt. Theanne Tangen and Pfc. Jacqueline Fitzgerald 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment South Dakota Army National Guard
ZANDERIJ, Suriname – Officials from the United States and Suriname gathered for the opening ceremony for the Beyond the Horizon 2008 exercise Monday, June 30, at the Jan Starke Opleiding-en Ontspannings Centrum near Zanderij. Beyond the Horizon encompasses construction projects, medical, dental, and veterinary services offered to thousands of Surinamers at no cost in various districts. The humanitarian operation will take place between June and September 2008 in partnership between the Suriname and U.S. governments. U.S. Ambassador Lisa Bobbie Schreiber Hughes said she was excited to see thousands of Surinamers, from Paramaribo to Brokopondo, getting cooperative health care. In the districts of Nickerie, Coronie, Commewijne and Marowijne, free basic medical care and free basic dental treatment will be offered to the local community, while in Para and Brokopondo the emphasis will be on dental care, she added. The Beyond the Horizon 2008 exercise is completely financed by the U.S. and is a result of the friendly relations between the two countries. The exercise also takes place in conjunction with the National Guard State Partnership Program between Suriname and the state of South Dakota, which began in 2006. South Dakota Army National Guardsmen from the 153rd Engineer Battalion and the 155th Engineer Company will conduct renovation projects at three school locations and three medical clinics in support of the exercise. “The mission is all about working together on this cooperative project,” said Ambassador Hughes. “We do not want to do things for you (Suriname), but with you.” -30-

South Dakota troops arrive in Suriname By Pfc. Jacqueline Fitzgerald 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment South Dakota Army National Guard
PARAMARIBO, Suriname – Ninety-three Soldiers from the South Dakota Army National Guard landed in Suriname last weekend to participate in the Beyond the Horizon 2008 exercise. Members of the 155th Engineer Company, the 153rd Engineer Battalion and the 730th Medical Company will be conducting various projects in the region. The exercise is designed to give Soldiers the opportunity to sharpen their occupational skills and practice deployment procedures while bringing lasting benefits to people of partner nations. “Once we arrived to base camp we were busy setting up so we could start work right away,” said Spc. Jeremy Jungemann of Huron, S.D. and member of the 153rd. Leaders from the engineer units looked over the sites shortly after landing to prepare for the work scheduled to begin the following day. South Dakota Soldiers will be installing new rain gutters and improving ceilings and cabinets for the Lagere Technical School IV, the Houttuin Clinic and the Clinic Nieuwe Grond – all located in Suriname capitol of Paramaribo. “I’m excited to see the improvements and I’m looking forward to seeing the culture,” said Jungemann. Hey Jamie I didn’t think you’d be out dancing this week. I thought you had to get knee surgery.
JAMIE:
I did have surgery a couple weeks ago.
BETH:
You did? I can’t see any scars.
JAMIE:
I know. I went to the Brookings Health clinic and had knee arthroscopy.
BETH:
Arthro-what?
JAMIE:
Arthroscopy. Is a new procedure in Brookings that uses smaller incsions for joint surgery. It was easy to recover from and my scars are so small its hard to see them.
BETH:
That’s for sure. By the way you have to let me borrow that skirt. Its supper cute.
MAN:
Hey there. Want to dance?
JAMIE:
You bet I do. And Beth if you’re having joint problems talk to Dr. Gray at Brookings Health Clinic. She’s the expert.
