1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 About Our Location Cabell Library is the physical center of VCU’s urban Monroe Park Campus. It provides a broad array of library services. Originally built in 1970, the library was renovated and expanded in 2016, resulting in 96,000 square feet of new construction in which to study, collaborate, discover, create and conduct research.
4
1.1 – 1.3
1.2 Project Cabby Project Cabby aims to improve user experience at VCU’s James Branch Cabell Library in three large categories: Book Finder, Virtual Locker and Room Controller.
1.3 Initial Conversation & Observational Studies Our initial conversation started from our own experiences at the VCU library. After coming up with three different ideas, we made surveys that could collect a variety of opinions and experiences of the library from VCU students.

2 CURRENT ISSUES
Current Problems
Lack of lockers
Difficult to find book locations
Complicated process to make study room reservation, lack of privacy
6
2.1 PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS
Possible Solutions
Make virtual lockers on the tables.
Using VR(virtual reality), guide to the book that user is looking for.
Enable users to manage reservation and room features.

Users will search for the book they want, and they will find out about the book status. If the book could be found online, the app will redirect the users to the library database or the website that has the online copy of the book. If the book is a physical copy, the app will show if it’s available or not available. If the book is not available, users will be informed with the reason. It could be rented by other user, it could be missing, or not owned by the VCU library. If the book is available, the app will navigate the user to the book. The app will allow users to find tracks that lead to the location through the phone camera.

4.2 USER FLOW
Room controller lets the users control two things: reserving rooms and changing the setting of the room. First, it allows users to reserve rooms very simply. They can choose the date and time, then choose the floor and the room number, and choose how many hours they are going to use the room. If they want to change any of the settings like the date, time floor, room numbers and hours, they could do so, or they could also cancel the reservation. When the users use the rooms that they reserved, they could control both inside and outside of the room. For Inside, they could control the air conditioning system, the lighting of the room, and the transparency of the glass wall. For outside, room information will be displayed on the glass wall. It will have the user’s name, the remaining hours, availability for the next reservation, noise level, study status of the user. For example, if the user is studying for exam, the status will say exam study. And people that are on the outside of the room will talk quietly for the user in the room.

With the app, you will know your table location, and status of your belongings. If no one tried to touch your belongings, then it is safe. But if suspicious activity is detected, user will get an alert and records of the evidence. The evidence will be recorded through the camera that is attached to the desk, and it will be saved their phone through the app. Users could report the missing item to VCU, and they could attach the recordings. After the users report the missing item, VCU security office will check the recordings and investigate, and the investigation result will be sent to the user through the app.

5.3 IDEATION
Touch Pad
In order to activate virtual locker, users need to provide their personal information through touch pad. Those provided information automatically sync to Cabby App and allow users to monitor their belongings through cameras installed to library desks.

6 CABBY APP
6.1 Introduction VCU already has its own app called VCU mobile (see Figure 1). However, it works like a collection of links to the related websites rather than an application considering user experience. Also, the inconsistency of icons make the app unorganized and messy. We conducted several surveys to collect feedbacks from fellow students about their experience. Reflecting their voices, we designed a completely new app that is not only purely functional, but also visually satisfying.

6.2 WIRE FRAMING
Beginning with registration, the app offers user three major functions: Book Finder, Room Controller, and Virtual Locker. To begin with Book Finder, you can search books and find their locations through VR technology. Room Controller, on the other hand, it allows you to reserve and also to control it like a TV remote controller. Lastly, Virtual locker enables you to lock your table and to monitor your belongings.
