ACADEMIC PROJECTS: HUMAN HEARTH SIMULATOR Design and construc on of an ar ficial human hearth simulator for cardiovascular surgery training. The model will be used during a progressive program based on simula on.
Problem statement: The design of a human hearth model starts inside an electronic engineering and industrial design course from two universi es in Bucaramanga, Colombia (UIS and UPB) and led by the Sick Kids Learning Ins tute (Toronto, Canada), where a group of students have the challenge of developing a device that could imitate human heart movements and quan fy the manipula on from both an expert surgeon and a surgery student. Characteris cs:
It stores all the necessary electronic components that allows the imita on of common hearth movements. The student/user can prac ce cardiovascular surgery techniques: coronary artery anastomosis (distal and proximal). Vein models can be changed or moved to different posi ons around the hearth model It has the appearance of a healthy adult human hearth, thanks to the use of silicon and synthe c pigments. The hearth is inside a human thorax model with anatomic propor ons. Allows both the student and the trainer easy interac on with other surgery elements such as: stabilizing system (Octopus) and Sternum Retractor System.
Implementa on and use of the heart models during the 3rd Electronic Engineering Interna onal Seminar, Universidad Ponficia Bolivariana, Bucaramanga ‐ Colombia 2012

GRADUATE THESIS PROJECT: PHYSICAL THERAPY DEVICE
During the visit to different physiotherapy clinics in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia problems related with the implementa on of thermal and electric therapies during muscular rehabilita on became apparent: Furniture deteriora on due to water filtra on of the hea ng machine During thermal therapy the temperature can´t be regulated Risk of heat overexposure of the skin Both electro and thermal therapies are applied with two different devices
Visual evidence of problems
Objec ves:
Alterna ve sketches
Design and manufacture a func onal model that allows the use of heat and electric current during muscular rehabilita on therapies.
The model should be versa le so it will adapt to different body areas.
Choose a formal, structural and material alterna ve.
Design of a manual control that allows the regula on of temperature and electrical variables such as: pulse, intensity and width frequency.
The manual control should give the user constant feedback.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS: MULTIFUNCTIONAL FOLDING TABLE
Design and construc on of a decora ve folding table that saves space.
Due to the lack of space available in homes and especially for students or professionals with carriers related to design, where having a good place to work is an important factor to take into account, surge the need of a multifunctional furniture that saves space. It can be used as a work surface, as a decorative item or as a shelf organizer for utensils.
The decorative painting can be changed and is attached by magnets.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS:
MANUAL PRESS
Design and manufacture of a manual press for the shoe sole assemble; the concept addresses an ergonomic analysis and health affecta ons
Problem statement: The workers of a shoe factory in Bucaramanga, Colombia execute ac vi es without having any considera on of their health: they a ach two parts of a sole with glue using their bare hands and mouth. Design Solu ons: An ar fact that prevents direct contact of the workers with dangerous chemical substances is designed, it also reduces physical weathering of their hands and mouth. Visual evidence of problems
Characteris cs:
The ar fact allows previous pressing of the two sole parts to be a ached.
The ar fact uses a lever mechanism that contributes to the fast sole pressing and prevents health problems related with biomechanical risk.
With the mechanism, more than one sole can be pressed at the same me (the concept establish a maximum of four).
Redefines the operator ac ons by changing the previous procedure where he used his hands and mouth, for a new one in which he uses a manual tool. Prototype implementa on and way of use

ACADEMIC PROJECTS: PICNIC BACKPACK
It is very o en to go out on a short trip like a picnic and visit different touris c places around Colombia, during this ac vi es people carry with them various picnic items so the trip becomes a relaxing moment, therefore a backpack with mul ple uses is designed. Characteris cs: With the backpack the user can store and transport different picnic items such as: food, cutlery, dishes, bo les and other frequently used items. The backpack also serves as food tray, thanks to the two compartments for water bo les located on the front side of the backpack which serves as a support for the food tray.

PACKAGE DESIGN
ICE PACKAGE Family of packages with a graphic style based on the Colombian indigenous tribe: “Quimbaya” A concept is stablish by designing an ice package with two compartments: an upper one where the topping can be stored and a lower one where is the ice, so the consumer can combined both products easily.
Each one of the 4 packages have their own style: the upper cup has a face that can be changed with the lower cup, resul ng in a fun package that can be used as a toy or be collected.
Final package concept Bucaramanga, 2010
CEREAL PACKAGE Having as a start point a new cereal with novel ingredients: corn flakes enriched with pollen and honey, the product is complemented with a striking package design that highlight the new ingredients and nutri onal benefits. The package has an appropiate shape which make serving an easy task.

3D MODELING AND PRINTING
3D modeling is a useful tool for a designer, it helps to visualize an idea or a ďŹ nal concept. Some mes a virtual model can be materialized by a rapid prototyping machine, giving the designer a tangible tool for the conceptualiza on of a project.
Prototype done in a 3D printer.

monitoring device front panel design
Piedecuesta, 2014
A monitoring device is used during ďŹ eld work therefore some of those must func on in tough condi ons, so the device among other requirements should have a strong enclosure that ďŹ ts with a panel for interac on. The panel represents the func on of the electronic parts, in some cases there must be a place for a display which ensures a proper feedback, in other cases the components must have a correct label so the user can iden fy them.
