A Short Guide to Operating an Infrared Sauna in Your Home
Congratulations on the beginning of your personal journey towards a healthier lifestyle! Installing an infrared sauna in your home means no more having to travel to the gym or spa to enjoy the health benefits the sauna has to offer. Bringing that experience into the comfort of your home certainly is extraordinary, especially since you will enjoy a level of privacy that public saunas simply cannot provide. There are a few guidelines to be aware of when operating and using an infrared sauna. The following tips were specifically designed to ensure that you have the best possible home sauna experience.
1
Go Without Clothes Did you know that the Finns really do go into the sauna naked? There is a reason behind this, aside from tradition. Going in naked means exposing more skin surface to the heat, which allows you to extract more benefit from the sauna. In American public saunas, being naked is not acceptable. However, since you will be having the sessions at home, there is no downside to trying this out. Here, naked does pertain only to clothing or towels. You must also be free of any kind of jewelry, lotion, or body oil. Metal accessories may end up burning your skin due to the heat, while lotion and body oil will melt and ultimately contaminate the sauna chamber. Taking a shower before your session is highly recommended. Drinking and Hydration It’s advisable to drink a lot of water before and after a session. While in the sauna, your body will produce a large volume of sweat to eliminate toxins. Drinking water before the session will prepare your body for the experience, and prevent you from getting lightheaded due to dehydration. In addition, rehydrating after the session with room temperature water will help to normalize the fluid level in your body. Hydration can be maintained by drinking water or beverages that promote electrolyte balance, such as coconut water. Drinking alcohol before or after a sauna session is not advisable, as it can have dangerous side-effects when mixed with heat. Alcohol can impair your judgment and cause accidents, such as burns or sprains. Follow these simple and short guidelines, and you are guaranteed to enjoy the healthy and luxurious infrared sauna at home.
