Why all the buzz?

It seems the media has discovered what many people have known all along – Music City is one of the hottest, hippest places in the country. While it’s been the primary home for country music superstars for decades, Nashville also appeals to musicians from other genres, athletes and some of Hollywood’s biggest box-office names. They are drawn to the city’s creative spirit, incredible live music venues, beautiful setting, delicious dining options and easygoing attitude – the same reasons why more than 11 million visitors a year make their way to Music City.

But you don’t have to take our word for it. Just listen to what the others have to say:

Rolling Stone said Nashville has the Best Music Scene. Bon Appétit called Nashville the “coolest, tastiest city in the South.” Forbes dubbed Music City one of America’s Next Big Boom Towns in 2012. Bing.com ranked Nashville one of the top 15 cities in the world “where it’s always New Year’s Eve.” TripAdvisor named Nashville the No. 1 Destination on the Rise for 2012. U.S. News & World Report named

Music City No. 4 on its list of Best Affordable U.S. Destinations. GQ, which called Nashville the “most electric spot in the South,” recently dubbed the Keep On Movin’ Dance Party – held every Monday night at East Nashville’s popular live music venue, The 5 Spot – as the Most Stylish Party in America. GQ also named The Catbird Seat one of the 10 Best New Restaurants in America. Nashville recently made the top 10 on Travel + Leisure’s annual America’s Favorite Cities list for Live Music, Friendliness, Affordability, Barbecue and being Proud of the City. In 2012, Kiplinger’s called Nashville a Best Value City. Also in 2012, Nashville was declared one of the World’s Best Cities for Music Lovers by MSN. It’s not just rankings, though. Recent feature articles about all the fun things to see and do in Music City have popped up in a diverse array of publications ranging from Southern Living, Ladies’ Home Journal and Men’s Fitness to Entertainment Weekly and The New York Times. So how does one city appeal to so many different audiences? The same way a hit song is made – by mixing all the individual parts to create a finished product that’s on everyone’s lips. Just like Nashville.

Enjoy dinner at Merchants, a classic, modern-day restaurant reinvented from the historic 1892 Merchant’s Hotel. End the night by hitting Nashville’s world famous honky-tonks on lower Broadway, including Tootsies Orchid Lounge, The Wheel and Legends Corner.

Mapping music City F inding Nashville’s live music venues is easier

than ever, thanks to a few new initiatives by the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau. A free Nashville Live Music app, available for both iPhone and Android devices, locates live music venues throughout the city and tells you who’s on stage. Users can search by area of town or venue name, and a handy map function will show your location and the live music venue options nearby. The app’s calendar will search live music events up to 14 days out. Download at visitmusiccity.com/music.

No app? No problem. The CVB has also set up a series of guitar pick signs that indicate a music venue. If a particular venue features four or more live shows a week, a pick is placed outside so visitors know where to go for music. Also transforming the way people connect to music in Nashville is the Wayfinding Guidance System. The program integrates pedestrian maps and signage with local street and traffic guidance signs. Located in some of the city’s most traveled tourist areas, the signs detail the major attractions around the area and help visitors find the sites closest to them.
