Pueblo is home to the Professional Bull Riders Association. PBR officials wanted to become more involved with the Pueblo community, so they organized the Wild Wild West Festival. The festival is staged at the Colorado State Fairgrounds on Union Avenue, with attractions that include authentic cowboy, Native American and mountain men villages, hot-air balloons and famed Native American recording artists Brule. In 1993, Congress proclaimed Pueblo to be “America’s Home Of Heroes,” for the distinction of being the only city in America with four living recipients of the Medal of Honor. Over the years, Pueblo has hosted a series of events to honor and recognize its own Medal of Honor heroes. In 2001, a unique memorial was dedicated outside the entrance to Pueblo’s convention center. Four 8-foot bronze statues to Pueblo’s local heroes dominate Heroes’ Plaza.
