Southern Idaho school districts have kept quality high by diligently using the financial resources available to them, securing additional funding from outside sources, constantly researching programs that work and honing the curricula accordingly. They also are linking students with outside learning opportunities through institutions such as the College of Southern Idaho and the Idaho Digital Learning Academy. ÂŽ

Public schools in Southern Idaho have a national reputation for excellence. At the center of all the success is talented staff. That, along with technology and wise use of financial resources all are aimed at meeting one specific goal: student achievement. Jerome High School in the Jerome School District earned mention as one of Family PC Magazine’s top-100 wired schools in the nation.

The public school districts link students with outside learning opportunities through institutions such as the College of Southern Idaho.

Technology has been a focus in the school districts. In Jerome, the district’s 3,300 students can access a network of some 2,000 computers. Abundant labs and classroom computers ensure students have access to up-to-date technology resources.

Accolades The Twin Falls School District, Idaho’s eighth-largest school system, has been named one of the nation’s top performing districts by Educational Research Services. Twin Falls also has received the Magna Award from the American School Board Journal and Expansion Management magazine’s Blue Ribbon District award.

The College of Southern Idaho The college’s mission is to provide educational opportunities for students in Southern Idaho – in other words, to provide training programs that will meet the employment needs of the area. The new $21 million Health Sciences and Human Services facility serves multiple roles for the college, acting as both classroom and research facility, as well as a community partner. A shortage of health industry workers in Southern Idaho prompted the collaboration.

The Herrett Center for Arts & Science provides a hands-on learning experience about everything from ancient history to outer space. The nonprofit museum, located on the main campus of CSI in Twin Falls, features astronomy, anthropology and art through a collection of interactive offerings. Home to the state’s largest planetarium, a popular observatory, art galleries and a variety of natural history exhibits, the center hosts programs for students of all ages, as well as for the general public. The Faulkner Planetarium, lauded as one of the best equipped in the northwestern United States, features a theater with advanced digital projection technology that seats up to 144 people under a 50-foot dome.
