ABOUT ME I am half-Greek, half-American, born and raised on the island of Crete, Greece. My studies in Volos, Greece showed me the many realms of design that Architecture touches. Through my university’s exchange programs, I had the opportunity to live and study in Argentina and Mexico, and work in Spain, and integrate into the local cultures. Aside from my studies, I have always loved to draw and sketch, and dance is a very important part o f my life. I believe concept development is important in design and I am interested in combining architectural tools with mixed-media techniques such as diagrams and videos, as well as documentation and personal experiences as tools during the design process.

Our thesis began with questions concerning the free movement of the body in crowd situations so we started to study the gathering of “the many” through field investigation and theoretical framing of the term “crowd”. The deeper we investigated the more we came to realize the meaning of the term and the challenge of representing the crowd experience. In addition to the study of the crowd experience through the study of the events, we decided to reproduce the experience through the design and realization of the Animal Party. However, the weakness of the representation of the crowd experience remained since it has to do with a feeling that is translated into words or means of design with difficulty. To represent the experience, we decided to design diagrams and create videos and soundscapes from all the events we observed (including or own) in order to come closer to the feeling of the crowd. spatial diagrams of the crowd

Anfibio architectural design III team: Eva Papadouraki, Joanna Poupaki Department of Architecture, UTH

Across from the community of Cayastá (Santa Fe, Argentina) a new square is created on the piece of land across the river. It is formed by the social housing buildings that surround it. The social housing complex is buoyant in order to be able to adjust to the rising and lowering of the river’s level. This amphibious architecture refers to an alternative flood strategy that allows an otherwise-ordinary structure to float on the surface of rising water. The square however, is not buoyant and therefore can obtain many different uses depending on the water level. The social housing complex is accessible by only boat and the use of boats (that most of the inhabitants already own as most of them are fishermen) is generally promoted by a boat friendly waterfront, with a buoyant marina, docks and storage space. The new waterfront plan for Cayasta includes intervening in the South neighborhood (Barrio Sur) without changing it’s original shape. The “triangle” becomes a waterfront park (continuing the existing waterfront of Cayasta) divided into six segments (Marketplace, Marina, Relaxation, Recreation, Athleticism, Culture). The park’s pedestrian and bike paths enter the ruins’ area of Santa Fe La Vieja connecting them with the community.

The project is a Greek Orthodox church and park design in Manhatan, New York, next to Ground Zero. We chose to the whole surface of the lot to be the park and have the church be underground. One of the enterances of the church is from the street, though a tunel, and the other from the park. πράσινος χώρος Light enters the church trough slits in the ceiling.

Facultad de Architectura, Urbanismo y DiseĂąo, UNC This is a hibrid building solution for a block by the river Suquia (CĂłrdoba, Argentina). It is a combination of public and semi-public space with educational and cultural programs, and private businesses and residential. The tower is created to solve the housing percentages that must be met while a longer horizontal area is left for more public use and in order to break the bulk of the building.

Choosing a scene from the movie “Η εαρινή σύναξις των αγροφυλάκων” (The spring gathering of the rangers) by Dimos Avdeliodis, the infringing kafenio sequence, I studied the structure of infringing cafés, that is, kafenia, and hangouts of the rebetes. There were usually “secret” rooms for smoking, gambling etc in these spaces, that were connected with the conventional, legal space of the kafenio. Based on my observations I produced various interpretive models where the legal facade, the illegality spaces and the transition and connection between the two are represented.

Social Eating

space in the experience of food consumption with Miss Foulas’s tsipouradiko as a case study special research topic supervisor: Alexandros Psychoulis Department of Architecture, UTH

In this study, I focus on the consumption of food as an experience and attempt to identify its relationship with social interaction and social eating. I study acts of food and drink consumption and the role of space and objects in them. On a first level, I identify characteristics of food and its consumption, and afterwards I focus on the consumption as it occurs in Miss Foula’s tsipouradiko. I identify some phenomena and aspects of the tsipouradiko in relation to spatial arrangements, the customers’ habits and the way that they use the space comparing them with other examples.
