DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION JUAN PONCE DE LEÓN JR. HIGH SCHOOL PRACTICE TEACHING JOANY MORALES FIOL

Students Assessments As part of my practice teaching experience, I was required to have the students evaluate me in four different lessons. The students should have evaluated me in listening and speaking, reading, and writing, but also in the use of technology. At the end of my practice, I gave the students some questions in which they would evaluate each activity. The Listening and Speaking activity I chose for them to evaluate me was their oral presentation of an expository paragraph as news reporters. Some of them agreed that they liked of this activity that they were able to record themselves because every time they made a mistake they could do it again. Others said they didn’t like it because they had to talk on the microphone. Those students who talked on the microphone did it in class because they didn’t have the resources necessary to record themselves. What they agreed in which they thing of the activity they didn’t liked was on the theme of the paragraph. They found it difficult because they had to go to their communities to see if something of importance had occurred. In the Writing activity the students had to evaluate when they wrote a descriptive paragraph in which they had to describe a Starburst candy. The students agreed that they liked the activity because they liked the candy. They also said it was easier to describe something that they already know and that they had in the moment. They also said that they didn’t like that I told them not to eat the candy before writing the paragraph. They said that the candy was tenting them to eat it. In the reading skill activity the students had to evaluate the activity in which they had to read the paragraph, identify what type of paragraph it was, and establish the purpose of the paragraph. The students liked that the paragraphs were easy to read. What they didn’t like of the activity was that they had to read a lot in order to answer what I was

asking. When evaluating me in the integration of technology, I decided that they should evaluate their assignment of creating a video in which they had to present a song and identify the figurative language presented and analyze it. The students said they liked that they could record it and present it. Others liked that they could dance and sing in the video. What they didn’t like was analyzing the figurative language presented because it was difficult.

After reading all their evaluations, I can say that I made a good job integrating those English skills required by the Department Of Education in Puerto Rico. The students learned something from every activity. I realized that they liked in general the fact that the activities were new to them. I also realized that they don’t like to work that much because they found everything difficult and a lot of work. Even though they didn’t like them because of the hard work, I am very pleased with their performance in all four activities.
