RIML
My name is Ludwig Riml. I am born in Tirol in the midst of the Austrian Alps. Since my childhood I have been fond of nature, skiing and trekking being my favorite.
Already as a 7 year old my parents would send me to a mountain pasture to work as a "cow boy", taking care of goats, sheep and cows during my summer vacations. I was living with a farmer high up in the mountains only to see my family on Sundays when I had to walk 2 hours down to the village to attend church.
I was part of the Austrian Ski team and traveled a lot in my youth. When I was 14 I traded a pair of skis against a Russian Zenit being in Poland for a competition. That was the starting point of my lifelong love affair with photography.
At the age of 23 I moved to Sweden, where I still live. By then I had aquired a Canon F1, an analog flagship camera. I remember long nights in the darkroom, after the children had gone to bed, and days at work, when I had to fight to keep myself awake.
When I was 33 I became ill in cancer and that was the beginning of trying to find meaning in life. I started out a search which led me to explore the religious traditions and mystics from different parts of the world. Meditation, mindfulness and yoga became the tools to deepen in knowledge.
Hi Ludwig Riml, give us some background, how long ago did you start shooting and what made you start in this world of photography?
I got my first camera when I was 14. But it was not before I was about 20 I started to take photography more serious. During my whole life I have had a desire to be creative and express myself. I want to share the beauty I experience in nature, places and people I meet.

CHRONICLES - LUDWIG RIML
Do you remember the click that sparked your passion for photography?
For me I do not think it was a special point in time or a click. It is more like a strong desire to express myself that has evolved through the years.
Who are your main influences on photography? And outside of it?
I remember when I first started out to photograph seriously that I would buy all the Photography Magazines and books available. I have always studied things for myself only. I guess it's because I have such high expectations for myself. I just do not want to expose myself before I think my work is good enough. That is why I don't submit myself to teachers. I get very unsecure in a teaching situation and my creativity is gone. I get paralyzed. Outside of photography I get influenced of all types of art and the beauty around us. I think what still influences me the most is my meditative way of life. I am a "slow" photographer.
I notice that most of your photos are landscape and documentary photography. Why choose landscape and documentary photography? Love at first sight or did you discover your relationship with landscape and documentary photography over time?
I think my landscape photography has evolved through the influence of my childhood. Nature has been my home since I was a shepheard with my goats and cows high up in the mountains of Tirol in summer and on the skis during winter. Through landscape photography I try to convey my feelings and emotions. On a deeper level I hope to mediate a sense of being that connects us all.

IMy documentary photography has it's origin in my love for different cultures and it's expressions. It has evolved through my personal endevours to find peace and harmony. Even in all it's diversities I can see the one singel motivation behind all. That is to be happy. We are all one in this pursuit but our ideas of how to achieve it vary.
also notice that you have a special taste for colour photography, why this choice? I started out with B&W photography and loved the whole process from taking the pictures out in the field to developing them in the darkroom. When the digital evolution began I somehow had to learn all over again. Especially on the computer side. Somehow I developed my "seing" in colors and found it interesting to bring out the fine nuances which color photography offers. If I would go back to B&W, which I may, I would have to redefine the whole process of photography, I think.
The photographers' creative process is often overlooked. Can you tell me a little about your processes? Not in terms of equipment or technique, but in terms of motivations, from finding a place to photograph to the final photograph. Whenever you go out to photograph, have you studied everything already or do you let yourself be carried away by the moment?
I think I am not the type who is very good at planning. Not in terms of photography and not in life. Of course I have places and ideas in mind espacially when I am travelling. I do have lists of interesting places to visit, but when I am out in the field I am rather sponteneous and open for what is taking possession of me. I think it is then I have use of my practice in meditation and mindfullness which allows me to leave everything aside to be fully in the moment.

CHRONICLES - KUNTAL BISWAS
Hi Kuntal Biswas, give us some background, how long ago did you start shooting and what made you start in this world of photography?
I am Kuntal Biswas, a freelance photographer from Canning, West Bengal, India, having a strong appetite towards exploring and learning every genre of Photography but mainly focusing into the street, storytelling & documentary segment currently. I love to capture different inertias of stories on the streets. I completed my graduation in Electrical engineering and then photography came along the way. And now, I want to pursue photo Journalism as a career.
Do you remember the click that sparked your passion for photography?
I bought a new phone in 2018 and started clicking pictures of landscapes and streets. Even while I was clicking images, becoming a photographer never occurred to me. However, my friends used to appreciate my photography, which made me focus on photography and motivated me to learn more about it. I used to look through social media and magazines, like National Geographic and Better Photography not really interested in the articles but the pictures (although I read the articles after looking at the pictures dozens of times).I have always loved how a photograph can be absolutely story telling or awe-inspiring, making you feel like you are part of the moment or scene. So I started taking photographs and use those images as inspiration (I still refer to the NG website from time to time). As I told I loved clicking images back when I was a kid but took it on a higher note out of sheer passion in around year 2020. streetbath https://instagram.com/pixelatedkuntal

Who are your main influences on photography? And outside of it?
My biggest influence in photography mainly in street photography is Mr.Siddhartha Paul, who is renowned street photographer from kolkata and his style of capturing people and also his dedication towards street photography inspire me alot.
And also my perents motivate me all the time and also cleck every single picture I have taken which inspire me and push me to go outside and shoot in daily basis.
I notice that most of your photos are street and documentary photos. Why choose street and documentary photography? Love at first sight or did you discover your relationship with street and documentary photography over time?
Street photography was not the fist piece of pickings for me as I used to get inclined at people portraits and landscape but when I started to explore and learn photography as a whole, I started moving out into the streets more often and gradually became passionate upon the genre of live visualisations, street photography.
And also my city is filled with verious stories which led me to street and documentary photography. I used to see where other people used to visit and take inspiration from it. I have not yet done any technical courses in photography and learned everything through other photographers and experimenting with the gears.
I also notice that you have a special taste for colour photography, why this choice?
To me, Colours create dramas that captures certain attention to specific moods, themes or stories and delivers a unique and compelling experience to the viewers, Hence I am passionate about playing with colours in my photography.

I go both ways, to me research is the only key to the doorway but taste of experiences shall be different for different persons as we all got different perspectives of clicking!, yes, certain moments are predictive, but whether you are aware of it or not, if in streets, moments that are captured fresh and raw feels best to me as it generates an unique story that defines my vision to the world.
I notice that Kuntal Kiswas regularly photographs India. Any special reason? Well I never thought in that way, I love to capture and document people and their emotions. People and emotions have always fascinated me. India is very diverse, here in every few inches you meet people with different social status, culture, language, race and relegion, they all have their own stories to be heard. May be that's the reason I have been attracted so much to India. However, the world of His is diverse, so if I get an opportunity in future I would definitely try to capture it.

Wolfgang Gangl was born in 1977 in Graz/Austria and is an award-winning photographic artist.
In addition to numerous national and international medals and awards, he was Photographer of the Year 2020 and 2021. In 2022, he became Styrian National Champion in Photography and won a gold medal at the Trierenberg Supercircuit. In the same year, he was nominated to the Austrian National Team of Professional Photographers and will participate in the World Photographic Cup 2023.
His works are characterized above all by the consistent reduction of individual elements, the stylization of women through pompous dresses and the recurring geometric shapes. His pictures have been exhibited in Arles, Berlin, Graz, Vienna, Zurich, Miami and Mallorca and printed in various magazines and books.
Hi Wolfgang Gangl, give us some background, how long ago did you start shooting and what made you start in this world of photography?
I take pictures since childhood. Back then it was the fascination of the simple analog camera, the click and the surprise when the picture came back from development. It triggered the interest for photography. Today, it is not much different. The fascination stayed, even though I changed my analog camera from back then into a medium-format camera.
Do you remember the click that sparked your passion for photography? It wasn't really a single click but it has evolved over the years. Once the passion to photograph has grabbed you, there is no escape.

CHRONICLES - WOLFGANG GANGL 26
Who are your main influences on photography? And outside of it?
This is very difficult, especially today in a digital time. One is loooede and drowned with pictures alone scrolling through social media whether I like it or not. But I also look very deliberately at art, notably Albert Watson, Irving Penn, Mert & Marcus or Erwin Olaf. And outside? I was sick and in bed for the last week. Out of boredom I watched some documentaries and films of the then Empress of Austria "Sissi". I knew the stories because I had seen similar ilmss about Sissi with my mother as a small child. But I immediately noticed that the extremely pompous dresses of that time have a direct influence on my current photography. In many pictures I depict women stylized with clothes and big hats sticking out. That has definitely remained as an influence for me.
I notice that most of your photos are portraits and concept photos. Why choose portraits and concept photography? Love at first sight or did you discover your relationship with portraits and concept photography over time? No, it was not love at first sight. I used to photograph everything that came in front of my camera. At some point, however, I discovered a preference for photographing people. Then I photographed young women as you know them from Instagram and Facebook. Very „gracefully" to get as many likes as possible. But I noticed relatively quickly that the Likes mean nothing to me. From then on, my photography evolved into "concept photography". I photograph only as I see the model and how I like the photos regardless of whether others like it too. But I am very happy when the photos then get encouragement and can be seen at various exhibitions.

CHRONICLES - WOLFGANG GANGL 27
I also notice that you have a special taste for colour photography, why this choice?
Life is in color. No matter where I look, everything is in color so I also like to create my pictures in color. There are already black and white photos of me, but only very few. In some pictures I just like it better when they are also very reduced in color.
Sometimes I see a picture, where I like the basic idea - but for me - it does not seem finished. Another time an idea emerges while I do sports or have dinner and I have to write it down then and there. When I still like the idea the next day, I like to implement it. Even though I need to get 100 years old to finalize all of them. I work very conceptually. The pictures are usually pretty finalized in my mind before I start to think with which model I like to work with. After that we organize everything for what the picture needs.
Without a doubt, the challenge is to get into the camera what has formed in my head earlier… preferably without any compromises. Besides, the reduction of the picture presents itself a challenge. Often, pictures „work“ through leaving off or adding smaller details. www.wolfganggangl.com
